I have actually watched EVERY person I can find react to this. I can't stop listening to it-- like a dozen times. Goosebumps every single time! One of the most moving things I've ever seen... I can feel my scalp prickle. Glad you felt the same way! I've been HOPING you'd watch this!

You're the first reactor I've seen that actually took the time to read the message that they are trying to convey!!!
Goose-bumps right the way through ... and loved your reaction!

I don't know who edited this, but I love that they added in the little smile Scott has every time he hears Mitch solo.

Your reaction was worth waiting for. Very appropriate that you read their message.
May I just call attention to Ben Bram's piano? Driving the entire arrangement (which he did, with Scott), and then dropping out at just the right moment, to highlight those gut-punch descending chords on the final three Rises, and Mary's sweet but powerful ending. Perfect.

This was their response to the massacre at Pulse.
I'm writing this in early December, 2022, a bit over 6 years after you posted this reaction.
    • In February of this year, my husband killed himself.
    • In September I first discovered Pentatonix. (I know - late to the party.) Their music has made it easier for me to grieve properly.
When they released "Prayers For This World," from this year's Christmas album, it came with the announcement of their Christmas tour. I immediately checked online and discovered that they'd be in Denver on Sunday, November 20, so I bought tickets for a friend and myself. I could only afford the nosebleed seats, but we were going to go and we were going to have fun! Then on Saturday the 19th a man with an assault rifle attempted to recreate the horror of the Pulse massacre at Club Q, a Queer nightclub in Colorado Springs, about 70 miles south of Denver.
This time we got lucky. This time there was a hero present who saw people he loved being killed and ran *toward* the man in body armor who was shooting an assault rifle, and, astonishingly, with no weapons except his own body and his outrage, took the shooter down. Because of him, this time we "only" lost five. One was the mother of an 11 year old boy. She died trying to protect others.
I've heard an interview with the man who took the shooter down. He says he isn't a hero. Yeah, right. I've heard that one before. It's what the true heroes usually say, at least the ones who survive their heroism.
I first heard about Club Q *just* before the concert, literally sitting in the Ball Arena checking email on my phone while waiting for Pentatonix to come on stage. Pentatonix didn't ignore it - how could they? Mitch took the stage and talked about the people we lost, and those who survived, and the families and friends who will spend the rest of their lives dealing with the consequences. Then Scott took the stage and talked about Queer nightclubs, about how they're supposed to be safe places for the LGBTQ+ community to meet with family, and friends, and allies for good conversation and a bit of fun, and what it's like when suddenly that safe place isn't safe any more. And on behalf of Pentatonix he pledged a large sum of money to help in the recovery. Then the concert continued.
And on Monday morning I woke up with a deep need to revisit SuperFruit's cover of "Rise." It speaks to me of defiance in the face of overwhelming odds, and of hope for the future, and of empowerment, all things that I very much need right now. That Thursday, November 24, was my first Thanksgiving without my husband, a very bleak day for me, and I got through it listening to "Rise." I have now downloaded it for my personal Playlist. I think I'm going to need it for a *very* long time.

When this video was first released, I listened to it and of course read their message { to the LGBTQ+ community }. because I really liked the song { as an anthem }, I assumed that everyone else would pass along the message.
You, my friend, are the only one that I have seen that takes it as a total package, reading THEIR message, so that the song takes on a different meaning.
I would like to THANK you. It meant everything to me. I wish others would respect peoples intent.

thank you so much for acknowledging & appreciating the meaning of this video, I had no doubt that you would -- it's been so disheartening seeing people react to this, and just going, "meh, it was ok." this was a passion project for everyone involved, and it carries such an important message, and like the proud PTX parent I am, it kills me to see people not grasp that. so again, thank you

Finally you did it !!! and i commend you for reading out the actual message, this wasnt just a bloopers and giggle Superfruit performance....but that serious side to real artists that give a damn, and dont just sit in a "well known" bubble and let the world go by un-noticed. Thank you ....a great reaction to possibly the best vocal performance of Superfruit ive ever heard. Regards.

This is the first time I have heard them, not that surprising because I normally concentrate on Classical music and jazz, with just diversions into the pop world with young performers who I support via a number of sites (including one I created for kids). Back to the video, I am impressed in two ways. First they are very good indeed, a class above the norm. Secondly the message at the beginning is one I 100 per cent agree with. I simply do not understand the haters, the bigots, the racists and anyone who allows their religion, their politics, or any prejudices they have to become more important than their humanity and love for their fellow man.. There is an old native American saying "Treat all men as brothers, no matter what they do". surely that is the only way we can live.

THANK YOU Phil!!! Finally their words below the video were read, and this video was reacted to in its entirety and intended message of support and hope. To the best of my knowledge you are the first reactor that read the dedication. I am sitting here in tears. Two of my children are part of the LGBTQ community and I fall into the other category of not being accepted for being different...but in my case it's a misunderstood complex disease that affects multiple body systems and is severely debilitating often leaving the patient bedridden or housebound and more and more isolated. I am mostly bedridden and only able to leave my home for doctor appointments. Every friend abandoned me, some harassed and mocked me. My fiancée said he was too young to be someone's caregiver. One friend is upset that I can't come to their house, (choosing to view this as a choice I've made) and retaliated by leaving me here all alone while they found others to run around with...three years in this rotten bed, alone and in severe chronic pain. I fight mentally to find a purpose and not buy into the idea that I'm worthless based on other's words and actions. There's no treatment and researchers are just finally able to do studies because of patients coming together to form a Biobank and literally provide the funding so that the lucky ones that still can function or are in remission are advocating for us. In spite of overwhelming scientific research finally being able to prove that this is very real and not in our heads we received less government funding for research than battered. Then the lowest blow...our Congress cut ALL funding for researching this disease. The IOM was tasked by the NIH, FDA, Health and Human Services, AMA and the CDC to study this and give them their findings. after several years their report was released..it validated what patients have been claiming they are experiencing based on overwhelming scientific research, results of controlled studies large enough to be conclusive....and we rejoiced! Finally, the government would put this in Medical texts, teach about it in Med Schools and Continuing Education for practitioners!!! Nope. the persecution and bias continues. Our government health agencies ignored the findings of the study THEY tasked the IOM with. There is a 35% suicide rate associated with this disease. These artists including all who are treated with bias for who we are meant so much to myself, and I'm sure the LGBTQ community! And nobody's spreading their message... Thank you again!!! And I'm with You! F*ck the haters! Thank you for letting me share my story. My disease is ME-CFS and no, I'm not sleepy, (for any who've erroneously heard that THAT'S what CFS is all about), and no. It's definitely NOT "in our heads" (unless you're referring to the inflamed fluid our brains are bathed in, and the jumbled nerve endings that veer off and end, without connecting to anything, in the language centers of our brains, and the loss of white matter which is conductive and how the electrical signals are sent appropriate parts of the brain. And, contrary to popular belief, you CAN forget how to ride a bike.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I've often said that music will heal the world... though this may not be totally accurate I do believe that it can brighten someone's day. I'm so grateful for artist like Pentatonix / Superfruit, Michael Franti, Jason Mraz and so many others that truly brighten my day everyday. Thank you very much for watching my videos and I hope in some way they also brighten your day. ;)
