Beautiful and full of life. I read/heard that 85% of the land east of the Mississippi is privately owned. So it’s up to individuals to bring back native habitats for birds, bees and insects. I’m starting to cover my lawn with cardboard and wood chips. So I can plant a native wildflower garden next year. I can’t wait to see wildlife, flowers and movement!
Hi there - sorry for the delay in responding - thank you so much for your support. I agree wholeheartedly with your comments and it's fantastic to hear that you are planning to make more native habitat, we certainly can make the biggest difference in our own back yards :) I do hope the channel is helpful to you - best wishes to you and yours - Joel
Hi Doug - utmost apologies for the delay in responding, I don't seem to be getting all the notifications re comments and am having to trawl the videos to ensure I'm acknowledging everyone. I am so glad you enjoyed this, there is a similar video regarding ponds and the different designs too if you needed another day brightening :) Thanks so much for your support - Joel
Thank you Alena - meadows are so important and we have lost around 97% (!!) of our meadows since 1930s. I hope to encourage people to bring these back :) Best wishes, as always - Joel

They certainly are therapeutic, even to watch back on video - this is just a small selection of the habitats made, many more to come and hopefully videos like these will encourage others to make their own meadow, they don't have to be huge, just provide the right nectar and habitat :) Thanks for your constant support, it doesn't go unnoticed you know - hope you are well and safe - and hopefully you can join us tomorrow for the livestream, no need to join in of course but you can watch from afar :) Joel

I started my wildflower meadow last year I already had native british orchids growing in my garden so I decided to build a wildlife pond with no fish so it have newts frogs and toads in it and other wildlife in it and cut my lawn in February and left it now its full of insects bees butterflies and many more types of life now my nabours are so impressed with it they are doing the same as me and creating a walkway for wildlife to go in each other garden because we all have large garden we have got hedgehogs coming to our gardens which I haven't seen hedgehog for many years now and it's fantastic to see wildlife to come back just in one season I can't wait until next year it will get better Our gardens our in Westminster 3 gardens are the size of 1.2 acres of land and next June 2022 we are having open day all money raised will go to local wildlife Trust in the centre of London for education and buying seeds so local people in London can grow wild flower plants to put in there gardens or balcony I want to know who is the musician playing the music And I love the video
Thank you Gordon - so sorry for the delay in acknowledging your comment, I've been away in Scotland and am just catching up - the music here is Jesse Gallagher - Venkatesananda :) It's so good to read about all the things you are doing and proves that these mosaics and stepping-stones of habitat for creatures is so needed, and so very rewarding - I would love to come and visit! Absolutely beautiful. Love all those native flowers in the meadow. Are most of these plant species available in seed packages in garden centres? Would love to add some to my garden and in flower pots, once spring starts🌼🌺🌻🦋🐝🐛
How did you or would you recommend creating something like this? I see some native plants that are somewhat rare where i live, the Netherlands, and even some protected species, wondering how you got them to grow there. Beautiful garden, thanks for sharing.
Hi Geert - in this video here you can see one of the meadows created and I explain a little about how it was done - it is very much in the preparation that makes it succeed and of course management every year after. This meadow was seeded and trees and shrubs planted. I will be doing a video on how to create a meadow in detail, but in the meantime I hope this one is helpful: ua-cam.com/video/Y25Bo15FlT4/v-deo.html Best wishes and thank you for your kind words - Joel
Just after a little advice mate, i dont have mjch souk in my garden but i have a small space left, maybe 2 square meteres at a push but its underneath a couple decade old or so hawthorn trees. Woukd the trees compete too much with the flowers to make that a problem? And also, i was planning on using your long season meadow mix which has yellow rattle, would they supress the wildflowers seeing as there is no grass for them to feed from?
Hello there :) If you're planting under the hawthorns, I would recommend more shade-tolerant species such as red campion, sweet woodruff etc - I have done a video on these - I think I forgot to answer you re the red campion but the plants we have will still flower this year if you wanted to order some. Re the meadow mix and the yellow rattle I wouldn't sow this under the hawthorn as it will probably be too shady. We do have the woodland seed mix which would fair much better. Do feel free to send us an email at enquiries@wildyourgarden.com as I'm more likely to see that, sometimes I don't always get the notifications that people have responded, and I don't want you thinking I'm ignoring you :) Best wishes, Joel
@Wild Your Garden with Joel Ashton yeah thanks, I already ordered some red campion, primrose, cowslips and dog violet on your advice to plug plant. The area gets a decent amount of sun forna few hours a day as the sun we get peeks over our western fence where there's no trees to block it, maybe the woodland mix you have would be better for me when I sow it in September? I just loved the look of the long season mix better that's all. Also have some foxglove, salvia and verbena bonaisirirs at the end of this border that I've recently plug planted as I want to keep that small area a little more controlled but let the rest go wild. Sorry to bother you with questions but you're the best in the business when it comes to this and I'm a bit of a newbie 😂
@@ev1677 Hey, no worries - I was a newbie around 20 years ago, so I empathise! Do send a photo to me at "enquiries" and I'll be able to advise better on the seed mix. Don't apologise either, I'm so pleased there's so many people gardening this way now :)
