Hello! Its awsome. I had this concept on my mind for very long time, you are the first one I see made it a real thing! Question - do you thing there is enough heat to boil water in a boiler and feed the steam into the chamber? This is how activated charcoal is made - the overheated steam acts as a mild oxidizer and creates microcavities in the charcoal, significantly increasing its inner surface. It also produces mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, which is flammable and can be burnt like the syngas. Check Making activated carbon video from Codys Lab for better explanation. Thanks!
Yes, I've done this. You can simply open the door when the run is finished and spray water onto the hot charcoal. It will become steam on contact. I personally prefer dry charcoal, as grinding wet char clogs up pipes. Our biochar has been in the activated carbon range dry.
@@carbonoffsetzone Thats not really activating the charcoal, just making it wet as you said. The reaction of charcoal with water that makes it activated happens only at high temperatures, ideally around 900 celsius. So you need to feed the steam into the reactor when heating it. Ideally after the woodgas release phase is finished.
@jakubstanicek6726 actually steam is created at 101 degrees C. Spraying water on hot char creates steam, which does increase the surface area, but wet char is more problematic than it's worth. Interesting Real Nice No pretension Her a thought Living in Canada As a small scale blacksmith I've been working/developing for several years a double function Furness/kiln that could safely efficiently heat up my working areas and "safely" produce good quality charcoal +- 8kg daily .Here Normally we need to heat the shop from mid October to mid April +- 210 days . Not sure if there is a market for this but taught it might interest you guy's as I don't think anybody produce such a double function kiln. Surly I am not the only one that could/would benefit from such professional safe arrangements . Thanks for Sharing Take Care Enjoy.
Hi just finished having 1 of the mk2 made, including the plans it has cost me $28,000.00 aust plans were $3k. Unfortunately I picked the wrong fabricator, but he was the only one of 11 companies that I approached that even replied. Materials will cost you around $9000.00. So far I have seen no real step by step instructions on operation, but the process is relatively simple, I will find out shortly when firebit up for first time. I have since found a young guy who is really switched on, and his work is excellent, too late as usual. Where are you sutuated, I am in WA.
I don't think they make and sell the machine. They only sell a "plan and instructions" for you to make one yourself. At least that's how I understand it.

What volume of gas is released in the process, and could it be used to run a generator?
Yes, I've done that. The amount depends on feedstock species how full the unit is.
Would you be interested in working in Austria as well?
