- Chloe and Marla sing a song of unrequited love written 110 years earlier. Some things remain universal don't they? At The French Quarter Festival, April 15, 2023.
6 of New Orleans most talented ladies. I always love hearing and seeing the Shake Em Up Jazz Band. Thanks for sharing James and have a happy Memorial Day!
Thanks Mark.
Wow the bassist!!!! Just love her ! Absolutely brilliant!
Wow! What a tempo! What super solos! Thanks for giving us the privilege of witnessing this performance, James.
I suspect when it was written in 1913 the composer would have never imagined it being played like this.
Yes indeed, James. I think the composers were Al Piantadosi and Henry Fint. They produced a wonderful ground plan for others to build on. They could hardly have imagined how fluently Chloe and how surreally Marla, and how humorously Haruka could run round their melodies and harmonies. They could hardly have imagined their song being played as a virtual duet between a clarinet and washboard, or how it might lend itself to sparkling solos by a guitar and even a string bass.
@@PopsCoffee Every time I hear Julie playing these up tempo numbers I am constantly impressed with her drive and rhythm on that upright bass. I put her at the top of my list of trad jazz bass players in New Orleans. Roy Brenc impresses me on the later jazz/Great American Songbook tunes.
@@JamesSterling Agreed. She's terrific.
@@JamesSterling How true. It was written as a waltz.
A Wonderful Band! Enjoyable to listen!
Go, Chloe, go, and all of you!
Absolutely fantastic.
I am so happy that Chloe came to New Orleans playing with the band together at French Quarter Festival again.
What a joyful performance.
Merci James Sterling pour ce partage artistique avec les authentiques et talentueuses musiciennes du groupe The Shake Em Up Jazz Band.
Que du bonheur !
Brilliant as usual again Great
Great, thanks for posting
Ladies. I know you can't hear me, but I do applaud your solos.

Second favorite NO jazz band. So good.
Thanks for the video, they are simply the best. always amazing
I've heard this trombone style in one of the incarnations of the Alliance Hall Dixieland Band, possibly Freddie Lonzo?
Wow. Nice.
