thats really good advice. My goal is to pick up nuances from transcribing the music of other instruments. A good bit of imagination is also needed.

I’m looking to join a community band and I decided to try out a new teacher because I feel that the current one isn’t helpful and the other one helped see some flaws in my practice routine because I wasn’t using the metronome properly and I would often rush the beat and she even brought me back to basics and she told me to use it on all my exercises and to set it at 72 BPM and I was setting it too fast at 100 BPM and that was causing me to rush the beat and I was making my half and quarter notes too short but my eighth and sixteenth notes were great. I was also having a difficult time keeping the beat while tonguing but I was always spot on with slurring.

Donna I am a new saxophone player my question is are palm keys only used for the 3 rd octave range ? Maybe I can simplify my question, if I play from low D up through c# using the octave key ( alto sax) is that the c# over top E on the staff, and the palm keys are the next octave up from there ?

Palm keys are predominantly for High D - F in the 3rd octave. I would suggest you find an online fingering chart and use that as a reference.
