Van Halen - Hot For Teacher (live 2015)

- "Hot for Teacher" is a song on Van Halen's album 1984. The sexually suggestive song was best known for Alex Van Halen's overdubbed, near motorcycle-like double bass intro, drum fills and shuffle pattern, and its music video featuring the band as both adults and young students in a high school. The Parents Music Resource Center protested it, calling for it to be pulled from both the radio and television, due to the song's sexually suggestive lyrics referring to sex with a teacher, and a female teacher stripping in the video, among other issues. In 2009 it was named the 36th best hard rock song of all time by VH1.
"Hot For Teacher" [Lyrics]
{Oh, wow, man, I said
Wait a second, man
What do you think the teacher's gonna look like this year?
Fuck man!}
Oh yeah, t-t-teacher stop that screamin'
Teacher don't you see? Don't wanna be no uptown fool
Maybe I should go to hell but I am doing well
Teacher needs to see me after school
I think of all the education that I've missed
But then my homework was never quite like this
Ow! Got it bad, got it bad, got it bad
I'm hot for teacher
I've got it bad, so bad
I'm hot for teacher
{Hey, I heard you missed us, we're back!
I brought my pencil
Give me something to write on, man
Whoa}
I heard about your lessons but lessons are so cold
I didn't know about this school
Little girl from Cherry Lawn, how can you be so bold?
How did you know that golden rule?
I think of all the education that I've missed
But then my homework was never quite like this
Whoa! Got it bad, got it bad, got it bad
I'm hot for teacher
I've got it bad, so bad
I'm hot for teacher, woh
{Oh man, I think the clock is slow
What are you doin' this weekend?
I don't feel tardy
Class dismissed}
Ooh, yeah
I've got it bad, got it bad, got it bad
I'm hot for teacher
Whoa
Oh! Yes I'm hot
Oh my God!
Whoo!
Does anyone else just enjoy how Eddie always plays with a big smile on his face? Hes havin a blast
He’s in the Zen
Jimmy Page actually specifically said he wished he was able to smile the whole time like van halen
Tre Cool does the same thing

Alex Van Halen - most underated drummer in rock.
that's why he is my favorite one since i started hitting the drums 13 years back. THANKS DAD FOR INTRODUCING MY KID ASS TO SOME REAL DAMN ROCK MUSIC!
This is one beast of a drum track!
Underrated by drummers indead but among van halen fans he seem to get the cred he deserves
Fuck you he is not underrated bitch
my theory is that when guys hear the name "Van Halen" thoy only remmber aout eddie Van Halen, so he is forgotten by that...... sad! but he is fuckin awsome!!!
"Light 'em up"
The greatest intro to a solo ever.
I always use that phrase I'm amazed someone else actually pointed that out I guess we're traveling on the same wavelength... Ever since he said that phrase it's always stuck with me man probably you too it is such classic Dave vocabulary ... I love that saying and I use it to this day I'm sure you do too
@@leslielee2454 we are connected! I love that phrase too lol.
I dunno “ah clean it up Johnny!!” (rhcp) is pretty sick
There's a live recording, from 1974, of Frank Sinatra saying that to the Woody Herman Band before their solo ('I've Got You Under My Skin', from 'The Main Event (Live)'). Given Dave's eclectic tastes I wouldn't be surprised if he borrowed the phrase from Frank. 😊
@jackbinkleymusic I love that one, Readymade is such a great song live
the crowd is literally dead
Fucking zombies or statues they're standing straighter than the Statue of Liberty for fuck sake
Especially when you consider right before they started David Lee Roth just a busted his self in the nose with a mic stand that's why he has a bandaid on.
That is because most of the people who enjoy good live music, and will show appreciation to the band by going nuts are screened out by network security. Its a real pain in the balls trying to get into the audience of a televised music performance, and you will stand around for 10 hours despite what ever the weather is doing that day. Never again I said....
No they are not, figuratively is the one you are looking for
bren mc. No. "proverbially"
Just think, he already had the cancer when he was performing here and still killed every minute of it. RIP ❤️
fuckin' trooper no doubt, I was at this show and this was my first time seeing them with Roth and Wolfie, I first saw them back in 2004 with Mike on bass and Sammy singing, I never preferred one over the other but damn Dave still has it
He has had cancer for years before this bro
And look how happy he looks
Really sad

RIP legend Eddie Van halen, the real Guitar Hero.

Two words: Yngwie Malmsteem
Two more words: Pretentious prick
Alex Van Halen's drumming on that song is beyond great. It is epic.
He over-dubbed the double bass.
You are easily impressed
shoutout to that one dude in the crowd jumping and actually enjoying himself rather being on his phone
DLR would have been a great game show host.
maskof Hehe I see what you did there!
Lol. I get it.😂
Would probably become America's favourite
He would definitely get to Hollywood
Michael Anthony isn’t there because he’s still a pro sumo wrestler
I BROUGHT MY PENCIL! HEY GIMME SOMETHING TO WRITE ON.

oh I thought he said ”gimme something to ride on”
I don’t feel tardy!

I miss EVH terribly. His music has always given me such joy since I first heard Dance the Night Away in 1978. Genius.
i agree. his being gone has left a huge tear in the world. there will never be anyone like him again. not ever.
Didn't "Dance the Night Away" come out in 1979 ? I may be mistaken
Best version of that solo Ive heard. Best part is when Dave tells Eddie “light em up” and he did
David lee Roth acting high he keeps naming places down the street when the song cuts lol 😂🤣😆
Eddie always seemed happy when he was on stage, always smiling and energic. We'll miss you Eddie
Edwards the total package man yeah just to see him smile it made you smile with him how unique is that I am so grateful and thankful for the experience he gave me and was smiling every bit of the way what can I say
The band walked offstage, leaving Eddie alone, and got into their jet and took off without him.
That's how Van Halen broke up. Why? Eddie was so stoned he couldn't play Eruption, going up
to the mike and telling off the audience, saying they paid already so it doesn't matter.
3:10 the bass riff is sick..
I'm saddened to admit, Michael not being apart of this blinded me to ever give Wolfgang a fair chance and damn you're right, he's fucking good. I don't know if that's the original bass line for that part but he pulled it off great.
yeah he's absolutely solid, his high backup harmonies are also perfection. So nice to hear real in-tune backup vocals not from a track.
I love the way Dave talks to the audience during a song like having a conversation, makes you feel like you a part of it.
That’s not Dave it’s Sammy Hagar😅
Nevermind it’s Dave my bad
It’s because he can’t sing anymore.
Growing up in the 80’s, this brings back so many memories… best time to be a teenager ever. EVER
Imagine growing up knowing your dad and uncle are in one of the greatest rock bands of all time and then they let you play and tour with them. Holy shit.
Yes, the poor boy doesn't stand a chance in life, if you want to live a clean life.
I would get so hyped if I was there, what are these idiots doing with their cellphones?
I agree! Besides with so many people filming concerts on their iPhones I figured that thats good enough reason to just put my phone away & enjoy the concert. I can then go on youtube & see the footage someone else filmed & enjoy it again knowing that I completely soaked up every bit of the show. You really do miss a lot of the show when you your busy taping it on your phone. But each to their own, its the world we live in now.
I think they are simply filming what they see as history. Back in the day, we'd simply drive to the next town for the show to relive it.
Hopefully recording.
Thomas Weinreich obviously theyre recording this to save the moment
I honestly hate this comment. Im going to a priest concert and will hav my phone out because i will be hype and hav lots of damn fun but my phone will be out recording if i want to because its an experience that i would like to go back and watch and relive.
Wolfgang really does kill it... harmonies and all..
Who else misses Mike on bass?
+Audioquest56 Doing well with the band Chicken foot
Mike high vocals are what I miss but Wolfgang is doing better year after year
Me
Wolfgang is the shit....Sounds very cool with Eddie.
Oh.... very cool. 🍕🍔🍟🍫🍪🍩🍰🥧🌮
“Very cool”
Wolfgang “yeah I’m some band with my dad and my uncle and another old guy”
Someone: what band
Wolfgang:........ Van Halen
Edit: RIP Eddie ❤️🤍🖤
This couple of last years we missed a lot great musicians.... This rock generation is leaving us slowly 💔
Up to us to keep it alive!!!
Allow us to take the reigns
Phones should be forbidden at concerts
..and bras
that's fucking right
Especially ones like these
Axl would have jump of stage & knocked the shit out of everybody. Take that, hey take that. I take it got damn it! 💥💥💥 😂😂😂
Don't understand why one will spend hundreds on a ticket and spoil the experience with a phone, while buying a better produced live dvd only cost less than $20.
I love Dave is just telling stories during the verse. Cool as ice.
Yeah to see Dave in concert just telling stories man it's a show within a show to see him live was just fantastic Dave had the greatest stories too
Yeah in Toronto about 8 years ago he was telling this story about rolling doobies back in the day in the basement with a black light with a black light poster in the background rolling a doobie off and double-sided album cover I guess weren't we all doing that it was so great
Have any life it brings back such fond memories
Hey did that in Toronto about 8 years ago in the middle of ain't talking about love and he stopped and started talking about rolling doobies on an a
Double fold out album cover under a black light it was so great
Can’t believe he’s gone... RIP EVH
I can't believe it either and I just keep thinking of myself I'm never going to see that again and the experience started in 1979 life without these guys just ain't the same
I just gonna say one thing: If Van Halen plays in Chile, would really know a real crowd...
Debieron haber venido al Santiago Rock City, con Aerosmith y Def Leppard habría sido inolvidable
Anywhere down here in south America.
São Paulo Too ...
sobriety looks great on Sir Edward!!! way to go Eddie!! awesome to see him smiling up there and rocking!!
Can't believe DLR broke his nose barely an hour before in the sound check when he missed the mic stand catch. Just pushed through. Seems out of it though. Maybe pain killers! Legend.
It wasn’t even soundcheck. It was actually the song they were performing for tv. They started out with Panama and that was the one shown on kimmel. DLR broke his nose while doing his spinning bar routine. He actually got through the first verse and chorus while constantly wiping his nose since he was bleeding bad. He walked off during the guitar solo to seek some help, then told the crowd what happened, Eddie played improvised solos to keep the crowd entertained and when he patched up they restarted. The tv actually showed the routine then used the take from after he was patched up and you can’t even tell they spliced it other than the camera switch. Look up David lee Roth incident and UA-cam and you can watch both takes. The vid is about 15 min long and it’s camera footage from almost the front row
Yeah people don't know Dave is tough as nails two man
What the hell, usually there's just a couple of people recording and I don't mind, but this is ridiculous
That Dead Kennedys pic tho :3
willempiekip Los Angeles phoneys
don't let it bother you dude, live life for you...
So you’re at possibly one of the best concerts you could ever attend in your life, and you wouldn’t record any of it? Lol. I think you would.
Once you know that it’s going to be on TV, you should just enjoy the experience with your eyes. You will never get good shots compared to what will be one tv
What a lame society we live in today. A motionless crowd holding cell phones.
I hear ya firebird
I was there. Singing and dancing, I love VH, and people were upset with me. Eff this younger generation that doesn’t know how to function without posting every god damn thing. Sad.
If I was there I would film a LITTLE bit but mostly just singing and dancing
@@slaydawg27 exactly it's fine to film some stuff but still enjoy yourself, shit crowd
@A A cringe
This is a terrific performance! Dave could've cared less what he was saying during the verses and it worked great! They were all having fun and the sound was incredible
Breaks my heart every time I rewatch this and realise how much we lost with Eddie’s last breath......Rest in Peace
It's great to see Dave and the group mend their differences and perform this song again so well, 30 years after it was first released
I like David Lee Roth he's batshit and it's brilliant
Perfect description!
EVH was the best musician to ever walk the earth.
EVH, grey hair and fingers flying faster than anyone younger than him. GOAT. This guy tore apart and assembled whole guitars to get the sounds he wanted. Everybody else just whipped out credit cards after guitar companies copied what Eddie had achieved and invented. Eddie was a guitar GOD.
cool story bruh
I followed Van Halen from when they first started in the late 70's and saw them 2 nights running on the 1980 invasion tour at the Rainbow Theatre London.
Eddie Van Halen was a breath of fresh air.......
I love Van Halen! I own all 6 of their albums.
You mean real Van Halen?
What about the other six
@@leslielee2454 he said Van Halen, not Van Hagar
What is an album?
The first six are the only ones that matter
Rest In Peace Eddie, your music lives on. You will always be “Hot” to me.
How can you waste your time filming instead of enjoying this badass song played by these incredibly talented and legendary musicians ? I would have sold my IPhone 10 to see Eddie live ! If i had had one.
Frr what a weak ass crowd
My god, Colonel Sanders can really play guitar.
I love watching music videos here on youtube. So entertaining. Also a lot of fun reading the comments. Some are priceless. Your's is gold. Made me laugh enough to post a reply. Good stuff.
Finger pick'n, finger pick'n, finger pick'n goood
😂😂😂
yeah and somebodys weird grandad can sing pretty well..
Finger licks - good.
Let me film the entire show on my phone when its being professionally recorded for television anyway.
Dave does not always deliver a good performance, especially as he gets older, but they all nailed it in this performance. Glad I got to see them play live 4x over the years.
Dave sounds terrible here…what are you even talking about???
@@juddly450 He has sounded much worse in recent years.
Your brother playing drums, your son playing bass. Just imagine what that’s like when you turn and get a good look at both of them doing their thing. What that must feel like.
Professional musicians know you don't want a gig with a family band. Marc Anthony knows that now.
@@johnwattdotca How come?
it's so great that Eddie got play with his son before he passed on. I felt bad for Michael Anthony..., still, it was his son. RIP Eddie.
If I was in that crowd I would yell as loud as I could "PUT YOUR FUCKING CELLPHONES AWAY ASSHOLES!!' haha
Yeah bc everyone wants to see cell phones in their face instead of Diamond Dave and Eddy fucking Van Halen.

I love Alex’s snare sound in this
💔♥️😢 Rest in peace, Eddie Van Halen. ♥️
the best part! when David tells Eddie, LIGHT EM UP
Sadly, I don't think we will ever see Alex behind a kit ever again. Isn't crazy how good Eddie looks here? it's unbelievable.
Greatest and most difficult drum lick ever
As someone who grew up with this song (thanks to my step dad who grew up in the 80s and 90s), I find it sad that the audience is just standing still with their phones up in the air. I'm 26 and grew up with the same technology. How are these people not jumping and/or rocking out like they should? Put your phones away and give these guys the respect they deserve.
Giving musicians respect isn't part of the gig. You probably want old stars to talk more than sing.
It's good these people aren't jumping and/or rocking out. They're not as stoned as Van Halen is.
30 years later and finally a good live version of this tune... R.I.P. Eddie
Always loved those double stacked double bass drums👍😃
Eddie always smiling :)
...and such *effortless* virtuosity. We are truly blessed to have gotten to watch this Titan walk among us.

it’s crazy how Eddie plays so many notes but does it so calmly that it looks like he’s playing something easy, true master🔥🎸

Seriously? I think a pit would be PERFECT for this song!!
Tom Peters
I always thought of this song that way. Ever watch the video from where they performed in Donington? No pit there, and yet, fecking nuts!!!!
Everyone in this band was an absolute stomper. Eddie just shines so bright it dims everyone else. Not his fault. But damn respect should be given to everyone in this band. They are all amazing!
The three Van Halen gentlemen are beyond excellent. The singer may be waiting for the next Sha Na Na reunion.
😂😂😂😂
my dad is a huge Van Halen fan, but I never gave a chance to their music. Now I just can't stop listening to them and thinking how many great times I lost with him by "not liking it" before

There was nothing overdubbed about Alex Van Halen's double kick drum. He replicated it exactly the same way live. Easy to do with his chops.
Rest in Peace Eddie, We miss You!
Dave is such a great singer. Although he cants sing all his pipes. he can still use some of his pipes.

really cool at 4:15 where wolf gang gives high brow at proud dad looking at him with a grin...
For some strange reason I like this version of Roth. He just basically screams the whole song, tells a story or two, changes the whole song but was still having a blast. Eddie, wow...unreal. Wolfie has good background vocals
He was talking to the crowd a lot cause he became a horrible singer. I love his studio work but live not so good
cuando van halen toca lo hace con una calma impresionante, prácticamente de memoria, llega a parecer que es realmente facil y lento cuando no lo es...

Agreed! I'm so over with these iphones all over the place. People don't realise how much there missing out on just soaking up the whole live experience instead of their focus being on their iphones. VH should go to Sth America & rock out with a proper crowd who'll rock just as hard as the band will. The AC/DC concerts in Sth America are EPIC because the crowds are incredible!!!

There's dozens of incredible guitarists, but only one Eddie Van Halen
PEOPLE prefer to record the concert than appreciate.
@Jeffro Lans yeah, but why if there's profissional cameras filming? Enjoy the moment, jump on people and headbanging is way better than filming
Probably the most humble guy in rock and roll, his spirit was as good as his guitar playing, what a great father too. I will always remember his boyish smile playing concerts in his youth. What a great guy not to even mention his talent. RIP Eddie, gone too soon.
