  • I traveled to Greece to climb Mount Olympus, the mountain of the Gods. With very little experience in hiking or climbing, I wanted to see how far my attitude would take me, and with my camera and storytelling skills, how that journey would look. In this short film, I document my trip from the very beginning, showing my journey from London to Thessaloniki, Litochoro, Refuge A, and finally the ‘summit’.

    • My pronunciation of the towns is AWFUL please ignore them
    • Stray dogs - they seem chill, but best to play it safe
    • Thessalonika - Litochoro the train arrived on the wrong platform

Really enjoyed your account of Mount Olympus, I’m about to do it in the sun!! 33° at sea level, but still at 0° on the summits, I did not know the train station is far away from the village, so glad you shared this bit haha!!

Really enjoyed this. Informative yet quirky, great soundtrack to accompany the cinematography. Think Matt is a natural presenter. Think you should try the Annapurna's next in Nepal.

How long did it take you to take? 3hours to the hotel, 3 hours to the top, then 6 hours down - so 12 hours?

Hi 👋🏻. Yes, approximately. The last 300/400 meters were slow up and down due to the snow. So in summer might be able to cut some time off. However as you can see I only went to the first peak. 👍🏻

Hey, I am glad you enjoyed it. The reason I don't post often is complicated. Life is complicated. But the main reason is money. I have very little, even less since I posted this video and they cost me a lot to make. I would love to travel more and to show people the world through my eyes, but it's not achievable right now. These trips are entirely solo and I edit them myself, which takes a lot of time too. I really hope to bring you more in the future... let's see what happens. Thanks for your message and look after yourself. Matt

@@MatthewJohnMurphy Hi I can see how much effort you put on your video, how amazing you’re entirely solo & edit yourself. May our God bless you to achieve what you wanna share with people, how Great of His work of the world. Look forward to watching your style video in the nearest future ;) Wish you good & smile in your life those complicated as it is… :) Iris

FYI trains moving from Thessaloniki to Athens are not that popular among locals.

Those who don't own automobiles will usually take the Intercity bus service. It's usually less expensive, they depart quicker, and most bus depots in the smaller cities are close to their centers.
Flying is a huge hassle because although the flight takes an hour, the airports in Thessaloniki and in Athens are out of the way and require too much time to travel to and from the city centers.
