" My God, the rocks are falling. 10,000 tons upon my head. Someday I knew this would happen. So this is how it feels like to be dead."
Some of the best lines ever written.

Love the whole Nancy and Lee Together Again album from '71-72. I transferred it from an 8-track to MP3.

    Gonna climb up this mountain
'Cause there's one thing I know
    My daddy's in this mountain
    Digging Arkansas coal
Yes I hear my momma calling
I'll let her wait ten minutes more
    She'll be sold
'Cause I like to lay on the ground
'N listen to the sound of my daddy
    Digging Arkansas coal
I was born in this mountain
Been down here since I was
    Nine years old
    And I know someday I'll
    Die in this mountain
    Digging, digging
    Arkansas, Arkansas coal
    Arkansas coal
    Married me a good man
    Back in '59
Knew he was an Arkansas coal miner
    And that suited me fine
    Got us a little daughter
    She's only eight years old
Wishes she was a man like her daddy
    Digging Arkansas coal
Billy, get off of that mountain
Billy, you got to go to school
    Billy, your momma and daddy
Ain't gonna raise you no natural fool
Ain't gonna raise you no natural fool
Momma, why is the earth shaking
Momma, is the world coming to an end
    Momma, why are you crying
    Is it another cave in
My God, the rocks are falling
Ten thousand tons on my head
I knew someday this would happen
So this is how it feels to be dead
So this is how it feels to be dead
    Digging Arkansas coal

Paris Arkansas is at the foot of Mt. Magazine in Logon County Arkansas. 10% of the coal mined in Arkansas came from Logan County. I don't know if there was a coal mine on (under) Mt. Magazine, but who ever wrote the song must have had ties to the area.

From a little internet digging..."Barton Lee Hazlewood[4] was born in Mannford, Oklahoma, ... spent most of his youth living in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, and Louisiana."

While fools sent time on on stupid concept albums(Yes I'm talking about Yes & The Who) Lee & Nancy do it in less than 6 minutes and make it sound fun, fresh & sexy.

@TheHughLundy Seriously? There's a big difference between a concept album and what is essentially a folk song. That comparison is just pointless.

  • @TheHughLundy
    @TheHughLundy 13 років тому +1

@jeffthunders Yes seriously Folk(along with County songs) songs are about telling tales which are true and have morals. Concept albums are about whimsy & nothings that their 'creator's' claim have morals, enlightment & understanding (more likely rubbish). This is a true concept song. This of course is only my view and you are entitled to totally reject it. Thanks anyway for comment.
