A breakup song that isn't about someone cheating or being a bad person, just about realizing you aren't in love anymore and struggling to accept it. Its about time someone wrote a song with that much thought.
I agree with most of what you said, but I don't think its best described as break up song -- which implies a short term relationship. It seems more about a married couple that grows older, and both slowly realize they aren't very satisfied with each other, or their life, and they have no idea what to do about it..
Mikel explained the last line of this song in his Facebook Q & A recently, stating that love is defiant and even though it comes with ups & downs, you have to just say f**k it, I'm going to love this person anyway. That explains the hope at the end of the video.
I recently almost lost my life do to meningitis and still fighting the fight thanks to Airborne Toxic Event bring my spirits high enough to least bring a smile to my face one of my favorite bands I've ever heard thank you and good luck
Keep up the good fight. I almost lost the battle to it when I was 8 years old. Had it for a week before doctors diagnosed it. I had three strokes by then and woke up from the coma with right half of my body partially paralyzed. Full recovery was long and hard but can be done. Once the docs do what they can, its 100% attitude. Keep it up.

Another masterpiece, both song and video. I've known of this band for years, but just now starting to really dive into their music. (Shame on me for coming so late to the party!) The Airborne Toxic Event has to be one of he most underrated, underplayed, underappreciated bands of all time. Their often ironic, always intelligent and poignant lyrics delivered by Mikel's raw, pure, passionate voice produce an endless stream of chills and emotion in me, whether it is the first or one-thousand and first time I am listening to a song or watching a video. I truly feel like I don't have the proper words to describe the band and could never do it justice!

They were just in Baltimore a while ago and due to children, job and finals, I could not go. I am so sorry that I missed this chance. This is my favorite band in a very long time. Smart, intelligent lyrics and misic played by REAL musicians. You just have to love this music!
I don't really like the changes made to the song. Different lyrics, different pacing in some parts (to accommodate the new lyrics) and Mikel's voice is run through some kind of filter. There are other differences, but they're small and/or don't take away from the song. It's still decent, but the changes make the difference between a good song and a timeless classic - which is what i think of the DVD version: watch?v=-z4gnELPvxM

I think if I hadn't it (only because of TATE, I'll admit) I wouldn't have really seen it in this video. The ending is definitely a lot more optimistic, but the story as a whole is hard to translate. Reading it if you can; it does enhance the video. But neither are completely worthy of the beautiful masterpiece that is this song.

i think this song is kinda like a "glass half full/half empty" thing you know some people may see "oh is a relationship destined to fail" but others may see it like "it's about a relationship where we're gonna keep trying" or maybe it's not failing we're just "loving" LOVE IS DEFYING. i don't feel like i've explained how i wanted but maybe someone gets it

You can listen to at least three different versions of this song through their channel. This one is good but the live one from the Disney concert and the Bombastic version beat this one.

God i love the airborne toxic event perfectly describes some strong emotions in the songs they make.

I agree with nikedmondson the film clip has no relationship with the the story of the song. But it is a great song both the live and studio version - altho I think I also prefer the Walt Disney Hall recording best.

This song hurts me in a place I can't seem to reach otherwise.. does that even make sense? All I can think is that it must be a kind of rebellion to arm your fears like soldiers and slay them.
@HughGRection12231 No, it just bums me out when a song like this gets worn out. The radio will play the some songs like 3 times in like two hours. Happy a band like this is getting noticed.
@braceurself224 I saw them at Wrex The Halls Night 1 on Saturday night in San Diego, absolutely amazing show. I'm in the process of uploading a few songs from their set that night at the moment :D

I love this band, but the fans on here are awfully rude, I must say. All hating eachother on this video. Lighten up! Jeesh!

You can listen to at least three different versions of this song through their channel. This one is good but the live one from the Disney concert and the Bombastic version beat this one.

@Yaneydaify uh, this IS a young couple. Do you want them to be teenagers or something? This couple is the perfect age for the experience needed by the characters in the story.

@Katerickey107 It's in the suggestion, people their tastes differ. Everybody has a right to dislike any song even if it happens to be one you find beautiful.
What's wrong this song being constantly played on the radio? Does it make you cry hipster tears when someone mentions a band that you already knew about?
In case anyone's interested, this song is based on the short story "The Hitchhiking Game" by Milan Kundera. Just for those literary people out there.
@videopro234 I don't mean to be that guy, but the band name is The Airborne Toxic Event. Not just Airborne Toxic Event, sorry, just a pet peeve of mine.
I was @sxsw this year only i had gone to see city&colour. Airborne closed the concert that night.. i have to say ive nvr seen a better live performance.
