Huge Sci-fi fan here, but "Oppenheimer" is most anticipated dramatic film this year. It's right up there next to "Dune: Part Two" and Gareth Edwards' "The Creator".
I am so pumped for this movie! My most anticipated of the year! I normally don’t like historical movies. They are boring to me. However, Dunkirk had me at the edge of my seat. I am hopeful that Nolan is going to be able to do that for Oppenheimer. Love how he can take any movie topic and turn it into something so thrilling, and heart pounding. He truly is one of the best filmmakers of our time. I hope this movie blows audiences away! No pun intended. 💣
Spielberg, Scorsese, Cameron, Nolan. Some of the most innovative and groundbreaking directors of our generation. All capable of big tent pole films, but also pushing boundaries in cinema and leaving indelible marks on the industry. Cannot wait for this.

The Dark Knight, The Prestige and Inception are in my top 10 favourite films of all time.
All jokes aside, but I can't think of an opening weekend of 2 movies this critically hyped at the same time. I'm seeing Oppenheimer first then barbie 2nd as a double feature

Our friend group is conflicted as the atomic bomb dropping in Japan is one of the most horrific moments in history. So concerned about how they will handle the atrocities of imperial Japan but also the in innocence of those that were wrongly killed in Japan.
I rewatched Dunkirk today after watching a documentary on the Spitfire from 2018 and it made me love the movie so much more. I love Dunkirk. It’s not as character focused but it’s a tight and well-paced story with an excellent score. The end scene when they’re reading the Winston Churchill speech always brings a tear to my eye.

But at the end of the day.. this movie looked good.. sounded great but nothing was there for me. I was actually bored for being a war movie. Wishing for movies to not be political is utterly naive. Every movie is "political" if you're looking to be offended. A movie franchise like fast and the furious is trying it's absolute best to not offend anyone, e.g. no gay people in it for the chinese movie market. But the women wear trousers, there are black actors with speaking roles, one chicknis supee tough and kicks ass and a movienlike this would have been unthinkable in 1940s. Cinema is art. Art is inherently political.
I mean this movie is definitely dealing with politics as it qualms with the detrimental nature of building such a weapon on the psyche for everyone involved, primarily Oppenheimer. I know what to expect going in. As long as it isn’t an explicit, shoved down your throat for no reason type of message in a movie that shouldn’t have it, then most of us shouldn’t care. It's just a biopic, so we won't have to deal with a flimsy, plot hole-ridden story padded out with slick cinematography to make something quite dumb look intelligent (the Prestige and Inception being the exceptions).

Plus this movie is such a heavy topic and not the type of movie I want to see in the summer. I want good fun vibes during these months. The more serious topic stuff needs to wait till winter or early spring

I don't know. I'm just not excited for this. I won't argue that it won't be a good movie. I'm positive it will be well shot and well acted, BUT I just can't sit through a movie about the atom bomb for 3 hours.
I'm definitely alone on this but I feel like his films are overrated. He over complicates everything. He is a good film maker but sometimes you need simplicity. Not everything needs to be a complicated story with essays as dialogue

That's the one thing Spielberg and Cameron do. They show emotions through actions not dialogue. Because of his directional skill people ignore his biggest issue. He always tells not shows
Kubrick is far from simple but he’s constantly considered as the goat. Ik it’s a matter of preference, but a movie that leaves u thinking is usually a strong film
He is great director but average screenwriter, especially dialogues are pretty bad

I’m with you, I like some of his movies like the Dark Knight trilogy and Dunkirk but overall I just don’t understand why everyone hails him as one of the greatest directors of all time
