VeggieTales Theme (RARE 1993 version) [READ DESCRIPTION]

- Update 8/4/2017: I finally got myself a high end VCR to use for archival purposes, and it gives a better signal than my portable TV ever did. I've left the intro plus a little bit to give you an idea of what the episode looks like in my Google Drive, where you may also find the pamphlet that originally came with this first batch of tapes. Please note that the initial print run of 500 tapes seems to have an inferior video and sound quality, so any playback issues present in the video are part of the original tape. drive.google.com/drive/folder...
ORIGINAL DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS:
Here's something a little different than my usual fare, the original 1993 intro for VeggieTales! Why is this version so rare, you may ask? Because it's from the original print run of "Where's God When I'm S-Scared", which only saw a production of 500 copies! Note that the theme song itself is unfinished, as it doesn't contain any of the middle verses of "broccoli, celery, gotta be" etc. Also, Larry nods for the first time, making this the only time he would do so before the third iteration of the tuba opening!
Apologies for the atrocious video and audio quality. Most of that is due to my copy being so old that, while still perfectly viewable, has definitely been around the block a few times since it was printed. I do plan on getting a dedicated VCR rather than using the one built into this portable TV, so that it may alleviate the problem somewhat. - Фільми й анімація
Just a heads up to everyone, Google Drive changed the link URL for the download in the description, so it's been updated with the new link. I'm aware that the Lost Media Wiki still has the old link, so if someone with an account there could update the page so that I don't keep getting notifications from people trying to use the old link that would be much appreciated.
Hey, I know it's been 4 months but I saw no one changed it yet, so I did it for you!
I don't think we appreciate enough how far CGI has come
JadenJFilms look I know it's not all that great today but remember this was in 1993 before toy story came out in 1995 so it's pretty good today standards!!
That’s a cucumber❗️🥒
Are you implying that 1993 veggietales isn’t the peak of cgi to date?
I like this though. Classics are so amazing, even in the early 90s
Wow, so this is basically an unfinished prototype of the theme song??? Both my childhood and my inner nerd are freaking out right now! 😍
It was in the first ideration of were god when I'm s-scared, it's a rare version with different artwork
Pretty much,
I didn't know you actually watch Veggietales, AuroraKnux.
I legitimately thought this was going to be some kind of meme when i first clicked it.
For real? 😂☕
@@abrahamsvlogs4040 It has a title like it's a high quality rip (look at some of SiIvaGunner's video titles)
Differences:
Bob’s smile is different
Larry smiles when nods
Singers start singing earlier
Instead of verses, there’s “Veggie, veggie, it’s VeggieTales”
Dad Asparagus’s pupils can be always seen, even with closed eyes
Bob and Junior, Junior’s Parents have different lighting in “It’s time for VeggieTales” part
Basically, a very unfinished version with tons of bugs.
This has to be the Holy Grail of all Veggietales VHS's. Am glad that someone has finally found it. :)
YESSS
My family had a copy of this tape. When I was 2 my parents put it in a storage and then the tape was gone. At the time they didn't know it was rare but when I saw this intro I started to remember us owning the tape so I reminded my mom about the tape and I told her how rare it is nowadays. I've been looking for the tape for 3 years in almost all of the Goodwill stores in Minnesota (that's where I'm from) and I never found the tape. I know someday I will find the tape.
Imagine rendering this in 1993. Omg. Toy Story who
Wow, this feels...unfinished. *EDIT:* I didn't read the description seven years ago, I didn't realize it was _actually_ unfinished, okay?
No shit.
WOW REALLY 🤯
This is rare? I seem to remember this intro pretty well. Guess I must have seen one of the original 500 copies.
I think this one was a prototype, the one they actually used was different.
The lyrics are gone, it’s def a prototype
When I Get A VCR I Would Buy This Rare Version Of The Tape
@@pay_berIt is BASICALLY a prototype, but it was in the first release. It was a tiny release that was updated less than a year later though.
What on earth!? I've watched VeggieTales as a kid, and this is mindblowing. This is the version before they added in the lyrics.
Only 500 prototypes like this were ever made, you're looking at 1 of the 500 prototypes
Rommix0 right
The simple credits fading in and out at the very beginning gives a very interesting vibe... I wouldn't call it ominous but it's almost as though it's quietly building up a strange kind of anticipation. It's so simple, yet it feels like an intro for big things to come. Given the impact Veggietales had on the history of CGI animation, perhaps that feeling isn't too misplaced.
Who would have thought a christian anime could be decent
Lmao
BENDROWNED33 indeed, such a good anime but not as good as blues clues.
VeggieTales is God's favorite anime.
BENDROWNED33 r u really dio???????????
When did this meme of VeggieTales being an anime become popular?
my very first VHS tape. i still have it today, now we have dvd players and smart TVS and netflix and hulu
I still have some veggietales VHS tapes. Some of them are still in mint condition and have great picture and sound quality. I even bought the “Where’s God When I’m S-Scared?” VHS tape, the one that has the black and white cover, at a goodwill store, and even though I was expecting the complete theme song, deep down inside, I was hoping it would the rare opening in this video.
the poor video quality only adds to it
Shut up dart
I didn't know this version of the original theme song had a few differences from the other original one, when Larry nods. On the original one with middle verses, Larry doesn't nod, leaving Bob just grinning his teeth.
This is also known as "VeggieTales: Theme Song "Where's God When I'm S-Scared?" (1993) Edition"
Larry does nod, but he smiles while doing so. In newer themes, he does not.
Was I the only one who found both their smiles super scary as a kid?
I wouldn't exactly call them "scary", but yes, they are a little creepy.
Well this was as a kid. Now I'm cool. But then, talk about nightmares. The irony right?
yeah
Isn't it like how he gets up once the children laugh his smile's visible, but in the 1998 re-render, his mouth was hidden?
Veggietales was the first show to be in full cgi (i think)
Correct
Dont forget the Moxy Show
Video para Corina that was in 2009
@@thatguyonthebusthatstaresa7437 The Moxy Show aired in late December
Yes and no. No because The Moxy Show and Reboot (1994) were the first CGI shows on tv. And yes because Veggietales is the first CGI series longer in half hour form and on home video.
This also doesn't have the animation skip that's seen in most of the other early tapes.
It's sort of there still, but not nearly as obvious as the more common later version. If you look really closely you can see it fade to the next segment in this version.
+Ben livchak Yes indeed, the theme song is in its unfinished form in this print.
+JuniorAdventurer Yeah, I think that's because they had to use a different tape for each minute of footage; at least, that's what I heard.
It's also probably why the DVD and digital copies of this episode appear to be low-res compared to even that of the second one.
+Hondo20132 Apparently it was because they were on such a tight budget they could only afford one computer for rendering and animating, and they couldn't animate more than a minute or so of footage before running out on hard disk space. The original source animation files are long gone because they had no place to back it up to, so almost all the footage has to be sourced from the master recording whenever they make a new release. There were occasions later on where they reanimated certain scenes in some early episodes either to spruce up/correct the animation or because they didn't have high resolution masters for newer prints.
+JuniorAdventurer That was because for the first approx. four minutes of this show and the theme song, Phil Vischer was the only animator.
I remember seeing this so long of a time ago I didn't think it was a thing anymore. I also loved the show!
I love the big idea and veggies! So it's the perfect blend fro my tv show! .
i will make a solemn pledge to you all. if i find this tape with the credit cuts in between the segments, i will upload it on a website for all to see! consider it my solemn pledge to you all!
so then where is it
I absolutely love the opening dialogue from 0:02 to 0:35. I just love the build up and I can imagine Phil being amazed at what he made the moment Larry appears on the screen knowing he made history
Underrated comment
@@DeniseKazooie fr
such nostalgia
LOVE Larry's nod by the way SO CUTE
The animation is still charming
Its like midnight and im watching a fuggin tomato and cucumber sing a rare intro to a Christian tv show
At 1:39, try pausing during Dad's blink, and you'll be met with a big surprise.

I feel like it is a legendary theme
So you’re telling me i have one of the OG 500 VHS’s????
Takes from Where's God When I'm S-Scared - Are You My Neighbor
I've died and gone to Heaven! Thank you JuniorAdventurer!
I actually like this theme song. I don't care if it's unfinished.
Same!
I always saw this theme when I was a little kid with my family.
This was the original theme song used only on this first edition... The other portions of the theme we know today wasn't added until "God Wants Me to Forgive Them!?!".
Looks like Mike Nawrocki wasn't kidding when he was talking about this theme song

Nobody seems to notice these differences so I'll say them: when the first veggietales is said bob and larry in the white place are still on screen and the clip of larry and bob dancing is slightly diffrent and frankencelery singing only takes up one "veggietales" instead of two and you can see a millisecond of the scallions before they start dancing in this version and also the scene of bob going to the letter is bob after reading the letter in this version.
Imagine if someone puts this on a VHS and puts it in a Goodwill

WOOHOO
lol. that's how I got here. chadtronic - weird video - veggie tales theme. amazing how UA-cam recommended works.
G/E: Ghastmaster Whoa you know Chadtronic too?
of course.
Chadtronic fan? YAY!!!
Well, I'll be darned! It IS the original! Without Bob, Junior's or Larry's verses! That's just impossible! I mean, think about it! The intro's still the same and the ending lyrics but this is just slow and paddy. I'm just glad when they re-released this in early of 1994, they fixed all that. I guess the reason they cut out Larry nodding during the re-release was because they thought that it would be better of he was hidden, but after re-watching it, they figured, why not re-render it and put it back in.
There was this version and another version of this theme song (also only from Where’s God when I’m scared) with the logo fading in at a different timing, Larry not appearing when Bob stretches himself and smiles at the camera, and the clips are the same except Frankencelery was singing and dancing on two of the “VeggieTales” lines instead of one and Bob goes to the letter instead of to Larry and it includes the verses (broccoli, celery, etc.)
Larry's voice sounds deeper
I watched the episode on google drive, and it was very different from what I saw on DVD, the theme song and end credits were different, the sounds were a little disoriented, and the color was more colorful, I guess that's the original version of Where's God When I'm Scared.
HOLY COW :O :D
You can clearly see they didn’t have a lot of juicy material to work with in the montage since this was literally their first episode. That’s why the montage was so slow compared to newer ones.
I almost felt like I was a kid again watching this. Almost...
1:55 look at Bob and Junior.
I still have the VHS. XD
I consider this version of the episode to be the pilot, with all the differences and whatnot.
Agreed, one day I hope to find it and complete my entire Where's God When I'm Scared Collection, this is the only version out of both VHS and DVD that I do not own.
@@philthepeach0600Well good luck. Only 500 ever existed, and surely not all of them are around anymore.
Oh Yeah, Without that Voice of Bob in the Segment of the Theme of this Show
It was taken from the rare 1993 VHS of Where's God When I'm Scared
The 1993/4 VeggieTales Theme Song with the 1998-2009 audio should be the 2nd version of this theme song shown on 1998-2008 Demo VHS and DVD release prints of Where's God When I'm S-scared and international prints.

Even I grew up watching Veggietales, I thought Junior was originally going to be a broccoli. I had weird experience with this show.
It's not anime, it's just computer animation in 3-D.
ITS JUST A JOKE DONT YOU UNDERSTAND?!
I have a ton of stuff with this intro in it.
how did i get here
could you upload the end credits of this rare version of where's god when im scared? =)

Can i use this in mmy 1 moment form every 90s Veggietales Episode?
I told Phil Vischer on Twitter!
What vhs home videos was this rare version of the theme song included on?
Well, you gotta start somewhere
"Veg, veg, VeggieTales! Veg, veg, VeggieTales!"

Oh what church do you go to
Is it me, or is the opening dialogue a bit slower here than the later version?
+Just go to my dA! From what I can tell it's the same dialogue that was used in the first few episodes, before they cut it down to be more concise and not drag out the scene so much.
JuniorAdventurer I knew that, it just seems slower here.
+Just go to my dA! I just played the two right over each other. It is.
***** Thought so.
+JuniorAdventurer Of course, the dialogue between Bob and Larry at the beginning would later be re-recorded.

how is this rare, i have this on one the old DVDs i have
Ok this is cursed
Bob & Larry had the same voice from 1995.
while I'm catholic, and I'm not a major one, I don't go to church, i do respect this show. it's atleast interesting. I do believe in God btw.
this is a real version I remember and vegetales greatest hits CD inside the original version does not have broccoli celery gotta be in it or any of the other lyrics

Larry's voice sounds kinda different
