    Fun fact: The ancient greeks viewed Dionysus, who had been disguised as a girl to hide him from Hera growing up, as the patron saint of trans people. They also believed that trans people occurred because Apollo would sometimes create people with the wrong genitals when drunk. I actually half finished a project in greek/roman art history on this glass skyphos that featured iconography of the cult of Dionysus, and there was so much (not even overt) gender queer stuff I found along the way that I can probably contribute like at least 35% of my gradual awakening to that project alone. Honestly the reason I gave up on it was because I couldn't figure out how to order and compress all info I'd learned about the cult's and the god's relation to gender, societal roles, life, etc. I was also very emotionally overwhelmed in the most livening way. Sorry to ramble.

    Another fun bone fact, only about 60% of people born with ovaries have what you hs biology book called "female" pelvis, that's one of the reasons why we have so many c-sections. The difference in bone structure is much less apparent than all those graphic shows, they're like "most extreme scenario". But yeah, archaeologists/historians should be able to understand trans people existed and what transition options we had in our times.

Moreover in the case of trans people who have had surgeries like facial feminization for example, I find it funny that transphobic people think that wouldn’t be noticed by archeologists … ? Story time !
    [transphobic mother]
    In the car one night, my mother just stopped be from getting out and showed me this thing on Facebook about how “transwomen are taking away what the word woman means”. I just looked at her and said “how r they taking it away?” And she said “because they are!” And I said “ok, how?” And she was silent for awhile. She finally turned to me again and said “They’re taking MY women hood away! I don’t want to meet with someone and have to tell them I don’t have a penie” and I said “well don’t then? They don’t have to know that information anyway? And if you’re that worried about it, just tell them your a cis-woman, not what’s in your pants?” Then she started getting mad saying “Again with this cis stuff! I don’t wanna be called a “cis woman” and I want to be a woman! And so I shut her up by giving the point of “yea, well trans woman don’t want to be called a “trans-woman” they want to be called a woman, but people like you aren’t allowing that. And it’s also people like you who get mad that we separated cis and trans women with names, EVEN THO THATS WHAT U ASKED FOR. I’m a man mother, I don’t want you and others to call me “trans-man” I just want u to call me a man- but you won’t do that, will you?” And she shut tf up.

      Yeah, usually when someone is mentioning their agab it is to say something relevant about their experience. How we are socialized (either as boys or girls) has a huge impact on us, so mentioning your agab is relevant information about your experience, even if it was not the correct gender (or in some nonbinary cases only correct partially or part of the time).
      Using 'dead-gender' doesn't say the same thing that you would be trying to convey by sharing your agab in most cases. (Although I guess it could be used as a synonym of how I've been using 'agab', without being specific.)

    As an asexual, I find it very interesting that when two skeletons were discovered to have been embracing during a major disaster, the immediate conclusion was "lovers," and when it was determined that they were both female, they were further classified as "lesbians." Like. If my town explodes, that could be me and my sister or me and my afab sibling, or me and my female best friend, holding onto and comforting each other as we die. I mean, why does every image of love have to be assumed to be a sexual or romantic relationship? Love is so much more than that. I love a lot of people very deeply, and I have no romantic or sexual interest in any of the people I love.

      Honestly well put, love doesn't mean what so many people think it means and love is not physical attraction, imo it's smth deeper and more sacred that doesn't need physical attraction to exist, it transcends that nonsense. In the context of that archeological discovery though, we can't actually really say which with nothing else but the two skeletons to go off of, other then they clearly had some sorta connection, though it'd be neat if there was any hard evidence for either way

    • @DelinahLovesHouseBunnies
      @DelinahLovesHouseBunnies 2 роки тому +108

      Excellent point, @floatingeyeballs44. If I ended up with a total stranger as we died in a disaster, we would probably be hugging, comforting each other and ourselves, simply as two fellow human beings with empathy and a need for connection as members of a social species.
      When I first read this story, I thought, "How do they know that they were lovers?" Archaeologists love to paint a story, and that can help some people relate to humans from the distant past, but there are so many other possibilities (including a wealthy woman embracing her female slave; maybe she was even abusive and horrible to the slave, but, at the moment of death, they both preferred the comfort of hugging another human). They shouldn't jump to conclusions.
      In research papers, there's a section where the authors are required to discuss all the other possible interpretations and acknowledge the unknowns, but popular media loves to oversimplify and portray findings in sensationalized ways that raise their ratings and make them more money. This is antithetical to educating the public. One of the myriad problems with capitalism. We need communalism; we need to structure society to reward greed as little as possible. But that's another subject. ////Bunny kisses for all!

    • @DelinahLovesHouseBunnies
      @DelinahLovesHouseBunnies 2 роки тому +35

      @OdinsSage Yes, I understood the joke perfectly well the first time I saw it. My memory isn't great due to CFS, but I believe the joke is based on an actual series of archaeological media reports. We can get the joke yet continue to discuss the actual cultural happenings on which it is based, as well as the complexity of interpreting limited clues in archaeology.
      Notice that @floatingeyeballs44 isn't directly talking about the cartoon, but the story it references. The default assumption of heterosexual lovers is indeed queer erasure. If OP is correct (I think so, IIRC), and the "lovers" were relabeled "lesbians" as soon as it was discovered that their bodies were both female, then that could be considered erasure of asexuals, and trans, and NB, as well as ignoring all the other possibilities.
      I'm well aware of the sexism, heteronormativity, etc. that has plagued science, medicine, and history, such as medicines having been tested only on white men until recent times. But thanks for explaining the cartoon for anyone who didn't get it. Just don't assume that discussion of the facts behind the joke means that we didn't get it. I thought it was funny; I love humor that "punches up" at The Man or satirizes flaws in self-satisfied mainstream thinking. ////Bunny kisses for all!

      NGL I had never felt more validated in my gender than when someone made a joke about their former transphobia by saying that they thought they were over it until I scared them.
      (Part of the context: offhand said my transition goals were Ryoma Nagare but the version piloting Getter Emperor, who is basically a bloodthirsty maniac with a heart of gold inside an invincible super robot powered by universe-conquering god-destroying fond-of-humanity psychic sapient cosmic radiation.)
      (I am well on my way, I got the maniac, the heart of gold, and the feeling possessed by an universe-conquering god-destroying fond-of-humanity all-encompassing energy, though that's probably just the ADHD and ASD intersecting for me rather than Getter Rays, but I guess I'll know when I'm done here if I land in Getter Valhalla after all.)

    I think something a lot of people need to hear and think about is that they shouldn't worry about how they present to the world.
    You could be a very feminine person, but you're no less of a man than if you were to be masculine. You shouldn't worry about how OTHERS see you.. Because in the short lives we have, it's not something to stick your heads on. You can have an outward appearance of anything you want, but still be considered a certain gender even if you aren't outwardly that gender.
    This is something a friend taught me a while back. It doesn't matter what other people think, it's what YOU are comfortable with that matters. If you want to be super masculine go for it! If you want to be feminine do it! But what you shouldn't do ever is conform to what OTHER people think you should be.
    If you are AFAB but you're trans masc then I support you in any way you want. If you want to do all these things that make you look more masculine then go ahead. But don't do it just because people say you should. Do it if it makes you happy.
    Love you all, and if anyone sees this I hope this helps in any way possible.
    TLDR: Do what makes you happy, not what others want you to do

But was still struggling a bit with it. one of the days we had an online class on zoom and beforehand I was changing my dead name and noticed you can add pronouns. So I did. and it became much less stressful to remind someone who got my pronouns wrong. Later I found out how they all had a meeting after and talked about my pronouns. Aperantly they made extra sure to not get it wrong and that everyone knew my correct pronouns. It was the most hear warming thing I ever had to know how much they supported me. Coming out of highschool I was scared of the world but they showed me that the world was the exact opposite of what I thought it was. thank you firends. and thank you to all the people that use the right pronouns for people and correct others. it means a lot.

I've never felt like just a guy in womens clothes. It just feels that right and natural to me, like if anything I'm righting a lifelong wrong. It's cathartic in a way. Last year I tried coming out as trans. Only to be rejected by almost everyone. My best friend threatened to ostracize me from our friend group and gaming community if I transitioned.

      Nah, be alone. It's literally better than being with people like that, and that's not your friend. You'll eventually find better people to be around, but being alone isn't that bad once you get used to it.
      Edit: Also, unless your gaming community is extremely small and localized, that threat is just idiotic. Most gamers really couldn't care any less, and I've literally seen some get shouted out of a lobby for being homophobic. There's just a small percentage who would care in the least, and they're not worth the energy to worry about them.

    Also, I keep imagining that 1000 years in the future, humans will evolve beyond transphobia and trans ness it will just be more commonplace. It’s bizarre to think of a future in 1000 years on this planet where humans are still arguing over “what is a man?”
    That’s like saying that gay couples who are buried together will be viewed as “just roommates” if they are dug up in 1000 years … instead of the wild possibility that maybe in 1000 years, ppl will cease to care if a relationship is same or opposite gender (or no gender at all) and just admit the obvious fact that they are a couple. Can confirm. In fact, given the prevalence of autism in the trans community, it's probably best, in the absence of familiarity with the trans person, to just assume that any plans you make with that person will entail only the agreed-upon activity in its most literal sense; and that the activity will continue for precisely the agreed-upon amount of time, or for the amount of time required to complete the activity, whichever is shorter.

I'm thinking co-op worker placement game where you manage a round table full of knights, balancing between defending your land, helping local people, and questing for a magical artifact which represents your ultimate win state. I'd play that, and hell, I'm five minutes away from trying to design it too.

    I've recently had some gender queer related conversations in a few online groups I'm in. Identity you probably haven't heard of, but we agree should be known by more people. Gender Casual. It's a bit like a mix of gender fluid and agendered. Basically, you don't experience gender disphoria regardless of sex or gender expression, but desire having the option to change your gender at will. Gender Casual people also tend to have partial to complete indifference to being referred to by any particular set of pronouns UNLESS there is obvious intent to misgender.

    Ever since I started watching the trans meme videos, it's actually helped me write a story I'd started during the pandemic. As a cisgender American woman, it's actually a bit difficult to write a story about a transmasc Egyptian youth adopted and raised just north of London; some things I'd already known about were among the first things to get written in, like using hoodies to hide curves when not wearing a binder, but otherwise it's hard to get into my character's mind to understand him. However, some of the things I'd come across in these videos - like anything pertaining to ancient civilizations - helped me with some of the cultural parts of the writing (for example, he and his biological family are more attuned to the ancient theology than modern Islam, so the story basically ends with him being granted his true body by Horus' mother, since that was something She could do). Each time something comes up that I wasn't able to learn in school for homophobic/transphobic reasons, it helps me get to know my character better.

      Fucking yes!!! I have the same issue, so many women and even my mother keep going on about how much of a shame it is cause "you have such amazing figure" and I'm like...it's not my choice? If I could trade it like a pokeman card I freaking would! But I was born with a very good feminine figure but that doesn't make me comfortable with it. Makes me question stuff and I feel so guilty, like sick to my stomach, that's its like "a waste of figure" but it's not a choice, you're just born in a body, if you're not comfortable then it doesn't matter how 'beautiful' the body is its still not comfortable. And that's the part that matters. Sorry for the rant it's just upsetting to feel guilty for being uncomfortable in a body you didn't ask for, they get upset cause that's the body they want but it's not the body that you want.

      The idea that a 'good female figure' is an hourglass with a big butt is arbitrary anyway. 20 years ago having a big butt was considered unattractive or an insult, now its popular. Its shitty that a person can only have a 'nice figure' when they're shaped in one specific way, and that they should be made to feel like that should dictate what gender they should perform. Nobodies body is better or worse because of the ways its shaped. Every body is a good body.
