    I heard this song for the first time in 2004, I think. I loved it immediately. As I listened to the lyrics more and more, rather than just the beat that drew me in, I realized I was meant to hear this song and be so passionate about listening to it over and over and over again. I still seek it like today, just to remind and ground myself in a world gone crazy. God is still on the throne though; therefore, I do not fear.

      44. I was 18 when this song came out, seems like yesterday. Worked in Christian Retail and they did a signing in our store. Caedmons provided some of the richest and most Theological sounding songs ever.

      I remember when this album came out. I still have my free copy that I got from the concert release at Second Baptist. 40 Acers and Long Line of Leavers are so special to me. Thanks for uploading.

    Every time I hear Derek Webb singing in Caedmon's Call it's bittersweet. He is so talented and his theology was on point in his songwriting. His recent apostacy grieves me.

      IDK. His songs seem 100% biblical, in terms of experience. I plan to seek out the podcast where he explains his disillusionment, because I'm betting he was let down by the irrational, materialistic "Christian" culture we live in more than anything.

    Why would you be thankful that you're incapable of any good? That should grieve us. We should be thankful for what Jesus did for us.

    • @marcusmitchell6220
      @marcusmitchell6220 2 місяці тому

      Forgive me for thinking I have the answer to your question. I don't think anyone would say we are incapable of doing any good in this world. The lyrics quote Ephesians 2:8-9 explaining salvation. So, the song is talking about salvation. If I could do anything that counts toward salvation, then I'd have to do it. Not only that, but I'd have to do it perfectly and my hope would depend on my performance. So, it sounds so bad, but I am thankful that it is all up to Jesus. I'm thankful that He has to do it all, because He does everything perfectly and my hope depends upon His performance.

    Romans 9:
    11 (For the children being not yet born, neither having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him that calleth;)
    12 It was said unto her, The elder shall serve the younger.
    13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.
    14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? God forbid.
    15 For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
    16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.
    17 For the scripture saith unto Pharaoh, Even for this same purpose have I raised thee up, that I might shew my power in thee, and that my name might be declared throughout all the earth.
    18 Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy, and whom he will he hardeneth.
    19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will?
    20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?

    To bad they are cross dressing now and calling it progressive Christianity. There is no such thing
    “So God abandoned them to do whatever shameful things their hearts desired. As a result, they did vile and degrading things with each other’s bodies. They traded the truth about God for a lie. So they worshiped and served the things God created instead of the Creator himself, who is worthy of eternal praise! Amen. That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved. Since they thought it foolish to acknowledge God, he abandoned them to their foolish thinking and let them do things that should never be done.”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭24‬-‭28‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  • @stephenboshoff8316

    Any person who follows calavinsm instead of the Bible will eventually struggle to face the tough questions. Can a loving God tell the whole world to repent of their sins, and also say that his desire is for all men to be saved, yet in calvanism only God can change your heart to be saved. So God basically chooses to send people to hell. With that philosophy you in trouble when presenting the gospel to a sharp athiest.
    CALVANISM IS WHY HE WENT ASTRAY.

    • @morganhymancomedy
      @morganhymancomedy 6 років тому +8

      It's not sad. Atheism is logical conclusion from asking questions and exploring. Derek's songs have always been more concerned with finding truth than trying to evangelize to impressionable youth like most Christian artists of the era.

      @@morganhymancomedy not to start an argument, but there are MANY people that were true atheist, and have sought out disproving Christianity and the Bible and come out a christian. I am talking about logical, well educated people. Not your simple country bumpkin.
      And by the by true, real, true, pure atheism says everything came from absolute nothing. Regardless, if you believe in Christ, but someone/something had to start everything off. There is NOTHING on this earth or any planet that is created without something outside itself. If there is , I have yet to see it.

      I loved Christian music and still do, but realize they are more about singing for fame and for ones own experience as opposed to carrying the Biblical gospel to people. That doesn't lead me to atheism though, as atheism actually is a reaction against belief in a god or gods, which means you have made a whole culture around something you do not believe, which really makes no sense.
