    I appreciate the video, and it is exactly what I'm looking for, even though I have Elements 2021. However, could you please adjust the sound, as I find it impossible to hear some of your commentary, and find that I'm suddenly lost about what you are actually doing. I also find it difficult to see some of the items you are 'clicking' on, so, putting the two together makes it really hard to follow, when the subject is 'gold' for me. Hope this helps, and I'll keep trying further tutorials. Chris, Lincoln, England.

      Thanks for watching. I just looked at the video, and the audio seems fine. I am working very hard to create zoomed video areas to highlight more details. I hope that you will subscribe and see what is coming. FYI, the new version 2024 is a considerable upgrade.

      Thanks for the reply and advice. I'm just returning to photography since my days of pre-digital (I'm now 75 years young!), when 'post-production' meant sending rolls of film to the chemist or developer. Consequently, I invested in 2021 to get ready for my returning hobby and 'new technology', but didn't really do anything with it. I think I need to get used to the things my existing Elements can do before investing further into the hobby (which is already getting expensive before I really start). I'll continue to learn from you, and then think about further upgrades. Thanks again, it's conveyed to memory for 'whenever'. Chris

    Can you use Refine Edge with the mask to clean up the selection edges around her?

      I suggest upgrading to the latest version. There have been so many improvements it is worth the extra money.

    Thank you for showing where quick mask is. I used that in an old copy of Photoshop and I was completely lost finding it in Elements. I have a question...slightly outside of elements directly. I downloaded a copy of Camera Raw (for Elements 2023) which I am familiar with having used Camera Raw with the old photoshop. I have seen many references to selections and masks in Raw but my copy does not show a place to select anything. Am I missing something or is the Camera Raw for Elements stinted in some way. I would love to be able to use the tools in Raw to adjust portions of my image not just the whole image. Any help would be appreciated.

    Using the Auto selection to box in your selection. After it is finished then select the brush and select mask. So much faster than tracing around your selection.

    At 4:37 the entire image is covered in a red overlay. How did you get this?

      With overlay turned on click on invert. Thanks for watching.

    Why do you have to make a new layer when you can just save the copy you're working on as a new file, leaving the original untouched?

    • @PhotoshopElementsTV
      @PhotoshopElementsTV  2 роки тому

      That is a good question. It is best practice to get into the habit. Also if you make a mistake you just delete the layer and not all of the changes you are making. Thanks for watching.

    I am sorry but this method is very unproductive, misleading and painful to watch that I had to post a comment albeit neagative. You are using PSE v2022 which has Select > Subject as a Menu feature. Simply select this option and PSE will automatically identify the subject, the girl, and make a perfect selection around her in about 4 seconds flat instead of your 12 mins+ with the method promoted here - no Wacom tablet needed. I just done it with a screen shot of your photo. Once selected, as I say in about 4 secs, simply add a Layer Mask to hide her original background then add in your new background or solid colour. Incidentally the Tool you were using is the `Selection Brush' which manually selects/deselects pixels (Add or Subtract Modes) it is not a Masking Brush. Masking is a completely different feature in PSE, you are just making an initial Selection of the girl before you add a Layer Mask. .
