    SUBCRIBED! Watching this legit gives me goosebumps… an s2000 yaw’ing like that, with a driver like you makes me happy and sad at the same time. Happy that these exist, but sad that all the new stuff is just so different. Front midship… rear wheel drive… driving bliss…. The very best of Honda…

    I own both a MT GR Supra and an AP1 S2000 and I love both and both handle very well but something about the S2000 that just feels so good. The rawness and the fact it just a drivers car is what makes it slightly more fun to drive, but my GR Supra is hella fun too. Love them both hard to choose which one to drive on the weekends 😂

    Like an early Speed Academy video. I can’t be the only viewer who sees this, and it’s not just the Toronto track being the common denominator either.

    crazy how the mid conner rotation allows the V line to have high entry and decent exit speed!

    Great driving & awesome S2000! Definitely seems to be slide happy and set up more for fun than the fastest lap times. The added aero could even be hurting grip and f/r balance. Anyway, on the double apex before the straight you were turning in way too early. Especially with a loose car and all the power up top you need to turn in late and WIDE staying as left as possible for the first apex so you can get on the throttle much earlier and give you a wider arch through the second apex allowing you to clip it tighter, faster, and without sliding into the straight👍🏼

    Subscribed. Great video. Nice car handling skills. I have a S/C AP2. S2K track builds should be configured to go fast on the track. The owner should figure out what differential is on the car. It’s not a great idea to drive something at its limits and not know the aftermarket parts installed. You’re a good driver but the setup is too sketchy. Plus I always find it funny people do aero and all but no hardtop. Kinda defeats the purpose of aero. I love many of the mods done to make it capable but probably needs dialed in the hands of an experienced driver or shop. Look forward to more vids on S2K track sessions.

    If the transmission /shifter is stock, i can think of 2 reasons why it feels not so good. The first reason is the OEM fluid isn't that great especially its not fresh, overheats quickly, and requires shorter interval change time. The 2nd reason is a slightly heavier shift knob like the one that came stock with the Ap2 s2000 coming in at (240grams) and taller as well allows for enough throw.

    I have a mildly prepped F82 M4 right now and I won't lie... I am considering selling it to build a supercharged track-focused S2000 instead of committing to the M4. Hmmm.

    Would love to recreate this build in Gran Turismo 7. I wonder if you don't mind sharing some of the settings for it such as toe angle, the height of it, the gear ratio and etc. 👀😁

    • @DriversPaddock
      @DriversPaddock  7 місяців тому

      Thanks for commenting! The owner has the car set up at zero front and rear toe. -2.8 front camber, -2.5 rear. It’s a street/occasional track set up. Personally, I think this car needs some rear toe in.
      The gearbox is a stock AP2 Gearbox, final drive - unsure!

      They don’t make them like they used to…early 2000’s cars have a soft spot in my heart.

    The steering is a weak point of them, no feel through it. Stock to stock, I tend to favor other cars even though the S2000 is a more purposeful tool and distinctly feels the part. The S2000 mods well though and gains a lot from that. I friend of mine had a 600HP big turbo S2000 for a few years that I almost bought, but it wasn't the right time for such a purchase. I'm an autocross/rallycross fella, not really a track guy, so my viewpoint is a little skewed towards that end versus high speed track stuff. The S2000 is just a good, technical tool, albeit limited by its generation of development. It's got good steering precision but no real feel. In stock form, the engine NEEDS to be rung out, and it feels pretty slow by today's standard, more than a FT86, but less than the newer GR86. I like the overall feel and driving behavior of the Toyubaru twins, better steering, better shifting (yeah, I said it), similar handling precision, and a roomier interior with more headroom for a helmet (for the taller folks). The S2000 is just a lean frame and feels like you can thread the needle and use more of the track area. Oddly, I prefer a RX8 over the S2000 as a whole and have bought them on two occasions over a S2000 or other cars, and I actually like the Renesis better, VERY similar power delivery to an AP1 but super smooth and with less rotating mass. The steering is better. The proportions of the car around you is really nice, like putting on a running shoe, albeit a long one. The RX8 is just a porker (albeit very stiff because of it) with stupidly tall gears and true to Mazda tradition VERY (laughably, and very wrong for track stuff) soft suspension, very much a GT car first. But it responds REALLY well to suspension mods. A lightly modded RX8 feels a lot like a GR86 when driven back to back, more so than they probably should. Both have distinctly low CGs. I wish I could like the S2000 more. I want to. I've driven them on several occasions in sport use. But cash in hand, I keep buying other stuff.

    Centrifugal blowers on these things are so deceiving, they lack torque, but they just keep pulling and pulling, and pulling like a street bike.

      A lot of people LOVE them and I can see why. It feels very direct… however, when pushing it hard… and in my limited experience with this platform…you need to be very deliberate, and delicate. It can’t be shifted fast or it does grind. Someone did mention that the clutch delay valve may contribute to this, but I haven’t touched base with the owner to see if this was removed or not.

    The S2000 gearbox is great...and I've had 3 the 2000 AP1 2007 AP1 Facelift 2009 AP1 Facelift and over the past 24 years 1st one in Toronto other 2 in Cape Town...One needs to know how to drive an S2000 and msny people complain on thr gear change until they learn you have to relaxed but definite on your change and it needs to revved...and steering also an art...grinding on shifting is a lack of skill..
