A Note on Fair Use: These juxtaposed scenes create a new work of art that is stimulating and enriching for the general public. It is for nonprofit, educational purposes. It allows viewers to contemplate the infinite possibilities for staging Shakespeare's written language by exploring some possibilities of what that language sounds like and looks like on stage/screen. The conversations this new work of art allows cannot happen without it; the whole of this new work elicits an academic conversation that is otherwise impossible as it allows us to explore Shakespeare's words, which are in the public domain. The difference between the brevity of individual clips used compared to the length of that work as a whole is so substantial that the potential market for the original commercial product is not diminished; on the other hand, this new work of art opens up the market to new customers that may have otherwise not known of the original film/play. Thus, this new work of art is protected under Fair Use's description of "comment, teaching, scholarship, and research" under Title 17, Section 107, and protected more substantially as Fair Use by the points above.

In the 1996 version Romeo is literally standing right behind her and it's amazing (and flipping Halarious XD) how she manages to not look behind her when she's outside, alone and only in a nightgown.

My immortal movie. The '68 version of Zeffirelli is by far the must successful and convincing, and I think it is unattainable, unless another Zeffirelli is born...

Because it’s shitty and probably has the same production cost as the 1936 one

This is really well put together. My favourite film versions are the 1968 and 1996 ones.

What is the name of the final actress from the Royal Shakespeare Company? I was reluctant at first when I saw the staging, but was pleasantly surprised by her, I think she showed the most proficient understanding of the text, and that gift for bringing it to life in the ear of the listener.

Leopold Leopold I think it is Mariah Gale. She also played Ophelia to David Tennant's Hamlet.

Thank you SO much for putting this together. I am using this with my students studying Romeo & Juliet! Do you have any aspirations to do the same thing with another scene? Queen Mab? Each of the fight scenes? Thanks again.

Love these! I use them for my English 10 class. Wish you'd do more with other Shakespearean plays like Hamlet, Macbeth, etc.
