@@JoshaHoudt severing your thumb tendons would be a career ending injury. Shin somehow found a way to come back from that and he has carpal tunnel as well so he can only practice for like a couple hours before his hands/wrist starts to hurt

Watched this a few times.
Stop exaggerating. Carpal Tunnel isn't something you get from an injury. It happens when you basically overuse your hand and wrist in a way that presses on the nerve. In his case, it was playing the piano. It's repairable so it's not career-ending. He had to choose piano or magic because the carpal tunnel can come back if he continues to play piano. He chose magic since that was his passion. Didn't you know google is a wonderful tool to learn about people.

I don't know why these performances actually make me feel emotional. The beauty of the simplicity and the synchronising movements with the epic music, it's just so incredible. He'll just drop three cards and they become two. It's nuts how good he is.
Maybe because it's delicate performance and moves we are living in a mechanized industrial time were we become brutal like these machines

Besides being an incredible performer, Shin genuinely seems like a decent human being. The two don't necessarily go together. I'm rooting for him.
Jeff Tarbell You should watch his UA-cam channel. On stage he's so classy but in real life he's a down to earth funny dork. He's really good but still goes around learning tricks and teaching them too.
I get the same vibe from him as I did with another magician who ended up winning AGT, Mat Franco. So I have a good feeling he just might win it all.
Talent that surpasses the singers. I'm not denying that they have natural talent. They spend 2 hrs in a studio. This guy practices for HOURS perfecting his craft. Best act on the show. He should win hands down. Or in his case, magic hands down.

Pretty sure she is not. Based on the videos shes appeared in she doesnt really know too much about magic herself. At least not to the point where shed be a professional. She directed and shot his latest trailer though so she might have some background in that sort of field

Me too, im kinda tired of this show cuz singers always seem to have the advantage (case in point as last season 8 out of the 9 golden buzzers were all singers and this season 6 out of the 7 so far have all been singers or singing groups) but when I saw shin was gonna be on It, I decided to watch this season then go back to not caring haha

@Nathan Dixon i agree. If they are such a good singer, compete against other singers in a singing competition. I don't mind kids or older singers though. This is only place where they can shine.

I still watch these videos every now and then. Honestly the man turned card magic and sleight of hand into art.
It always was. Edgy 'street' magicians ruined 'card tricks' and destroyed the reputation of magic, with tv fakery. Lim has skills, but a lot of his stuff is super simple and straightforward. The atmosphere and presentation make it magic. I still think he never fooled P&T(maybe the second marker vanish fooled them), they just gave him a pass, because he was a really good look for card magic. In his first appearance, at least one trick, was out of a kid's magic set (card in bag), so I doubt that fooled them.
I think the most magical thing is that he is still the same smiling, down to earth guy since day 1. how many people can we say that for honestly.
He should have got golden buzzer for his first performance

I like this and the dance group that got the buzzer from the first episode the best.

The buzzer doesn't allow us to see more of his talent, and makes his victory sweeter and well earned.

I don’t even want to know how it’s done. It is such an amazing act. Shin Lim is the best magicians in the world today… possibly of all time. That was unreal, it looked like real magic, (even though I know it was a combination of sleight of hand, and black art). It’s no wonder why he won the show. He is truly gifted.

A proof of how humble he is: he said I practiced a lot this week. So he is openly calling his work tricks that could be practiced rather than special powers and magic. Other magicians wouldnt have said that
That's not a good way to look at it. The most arrogant magician that I've ever seen is Richard Turner, and he talks quite a bit about how he practices more than anyone else.

This guy is the only person that does magic that makes me believe magic is real. The first time I watched all of his performances, I legit believe this guy is a wizard.

I've been a fan of David Blaine, Kris Angel, Dynamo for a long time and when I first saw Shin Lim on Penn and Teller I was blown away but this performance was a whole other level. The fact that he is live on stage at America's Got Talent with a close-up observer is proof there is absolutely no other tricks here but his own. No actors, no CGI, no camera cuts. If this is truly just an illusion then the cards are moving faster than the 30 frames per second the video can capture which is in of itself beyond incredible. But this performance makes me believe there is something more. I am a believer that true magic exists and I struggle to see how this is just a perfect illusion. Shin Lim is truly the most talented magician I have ever seen and love how humble he is off stage but carries such a presence on. Looking forward to seeing where the future takes him and how his level of magic improves over the years. Much love Shin!
Shin is like the others you've mentioned - committed to the craft of illusion, gimmicks, and skills so well presented - it definitely seems like actual magic. You're witnessing a man that recovered and rehabilitated from two severed thumb tendons on his left hand in 6 months, when he was given two years of recovery time by the doctors - all to continue his routines and magic career. He is truly amazing to watch with just a mere pack of cards.

I run the video at .25 speed and still i couldn't see anything at all that would give him away. I mean this young man really blew my mind away. How could be even possible what he did?
That's the key. You could play this at whatever speed you wanted to he has perfected his art so it's not about your eyes not catching the move be perfectly places his moves so you simply can't see them. And he does so with style.
Just a simple move u know how perfect his skills is, look at how he threw that ACE directly pointing up straight to girl.

Watched this video so many times,absolute class.
Of course the guy is brilliant, but if you want to know how some of the tricks work:
When the cards come out of the package, the back of the cards is not shown, indicating that the back of the queens are aces.
When the cards are all on the table, notice that there are no aces in the pack.
The 'one' ace he throws are in fact four aces with magicians glue (google it) which is strong enough to keep them together, yet easy to separate them at the near end of the performance.
The same magician glue is used to glue the aces to the back of the queens with kings glued in the middle.
The cards that disappear are moved (brilliantly obviously, nothing against the guy) in the rug on the table. There are slits in there.
For all haters of this comment, 99% of the trick is skill and can only be done by brilliant magicians that practiced hundreds of hours.

Shin single handedly brought back so much magic that had been kinda disappearing, for so long people only wanted to see the David blane and Chris angel stunts. But shin when he performs these (matrix) routines he made them so special that close up magic really did have a come back.

Shin is amazing. I dont know how to explain what he does, but thats the beauty of magic...that you cant explain you just enjoy and have your mind blown. Some try to say he has magnetic cards, the material on the table that he trows the cards unde the table....its not that. I saw him when he did this tricks and have the other persone examine the cards, belive me a magnetic card you will notice. Also you can see a little under the table and there are no cards falling there, another time on the same table he bang the deck of cards on the black material and was rock solid. I know its not magic, its hours of practice to develop the best sleight of hand i ever seen and i cant explain it...and you know what ? I dont want to, i just enjoy. Amazing performamce !
