Shaq ejected in the 2nd quarter. Kobe takes em from down 28 to a win in overtime, including 5 points in the last 6 seconds...and some idiots still say Shaq was the reason this team was so good lmao.
He was, that team was totally based around him.. Kobe Bryant was just a superstar in his own right and one of the elite 2nd options of all time at that time. There's a reason why shaq won all the awards in their dynastic years.
RIP Kobe. This was the game I remember from my childhood. Motivation. Grind. Never lose mentality. I played in my room imitating this on the basket hanging over my door. Thank you for the mamba mentality.
"What Kobe is doing is what Michael [Jordan] finally learned to do," says Lakers assistant coach Tex Winter, who coached Jordan with the Bulls from 1985-98. "Michael at one time was worse than Kobe at trying to take over the game. Once he got the idea that it was a team concept, we got much more effective. That's sort of the evolution I see with Kobe right now."
this is the game where i realized to NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER turn off a Lakers game when we're severely down (be it that I was a naive 13 year old back then). Its a good thing too...we all know what happened the next season during game 7 of the 2000 WCF... :)
Just found this...oh man, what a day this was. It was a surreal day with Columbine shootings on tv news all day. Lifelong Lakers fan here, lived in SF at the time. Rare sellout crowd about 70/30 Warriors and they dont like LA much up there. At one point it was 38-10. Shaq got tossed in the 1st half and Kobe started the second half on the bench. LA still 20 down to start the 4th. An absolutely incredible rally, highlighted by the Jordan-esque tipin as MJ looked on. What a night...
I know this game all too well; my dad had bought me tickets to this game. We went and Oracle was packed, well it wasn’t called Oracle. Warrior teams were not the best during these times. Heck much of the Bay Area were Laker fans at the time.
@Abdurahman1234567890 This is Keven Calabro, he was the voice of the Seattle Sonics for 19 years but decided not to move to Oklahoma City with them. Good memories haha.
@Abdurahman1234567890 Kevin Calabro (KC) chose to stay in seattle and not move with the team to OK city. He has a daily radio show on 710 espn seattle every afternoon. And he occasionally does National radio broadcasts for the NBA and he recently called the Duke win in the Maui Classic. In fact, he just mentioned yesterday that he will be doing one of the Christmas games on radio for the NBA.
That tip-in was so sick!! 1. 4 seconds down by 4. 2. Miraculous 3--well guarded and a few feet from the 3. 3. An amazing intentional miss tip in. I say that it's both lucky and amazing. wow...
Gotta love the J headscratch after Kobe on the baseline. Man I wish I could've heard the dialogue goin on while watching Kobe get off. Had to have been some resentment on J's part watching this young "punk" tryin to take his crown. Kobe did his s*$% though, can never hate on the dude for that.
I was looking for this since yesterday. This was the game I first saw the power of the mamba mentality. RIP Kobe

They were both great. Its that simple.

Rice will stop... lean.. double clutch.. puts AAGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!1111
Love the announcer's uncontrollable scream at 5:20.
Hahaha MJ is like damn this kid is good
I swear it's like anywhere John Starks is, Jordan is close by, I wonder if they're neighbors xD
Man, even then, at age 20, Kobe was clutch as hell. And it takes a terrific shooter like Glen Rice to miss a free-throw that perfectly, lol.
My favorite Kobe game. He was still raw and underdeveloped, but the MAMBA MENTALITY was already there. Killer.
"My intentions were to dunk the ball" lmao fuckin Kobe! That would have been some Space Jam shit!
Damn, he's already getting Kobe chants at the age of 21.
He was 20

kobe needs to grow his fro back
the game that jamison scored 51 was a good two seasons later...
Recuerdo mucho ese game...mi respeto a kobe y mi respeto a Jordan que lo fue a ver jugar...R.I.P. A KOBE
I think Jordan came just to see the Kobe/Starks match up...why else come to a lakers / Warriors game...
goat

I love J.R. Reid's reaction after the tip-in.
How so? By this time, he was already retired and didn't plan to return, so why would he be jealous?
LOL I live in Oakland and I am a diehard Lakers fan. (since 83) Its always like that when LA comes to town.
awesome...thx for posting that.
being a Warrior fan and a big Kobe fan...this is my fondest memory...RIP...#mambamentality
