07:08 or I am getting better (I don't believe in this)or this was a medium puzzle. Because I solve it quite fast and alone!! My solve was quite similar to your but I find out a xywing at the end. If R3C2 is a 3 then R3C8 is a 1, but if R3C2 is a 5 then R8C2 is a 1, eitheir way we can't have 1 in R8C8. That's true, I could have tried the bug+1... but did I remember that? No... but now that you said it I remember how to solve that way! Thanks 😁
Wow, that one looked to be super-easy right until the very end - only 14 cells left after doing the elementary strategies, and I ran out of steam! XY-chain on 5's knocks out the 5 in R7C2. I see in the video description that you used a remote pair - I'm guessing it's equivalent to the XY-chain, and now I need to watch the video to see what you actually did. Wow - I didn't see it while doing the puzzle, but at about 11:50 in the video, all of a sudden the BUG+1 is a 'screamer' - and I was in exactly the same position, centermarks and all. (Paused at 11:57, I bet you're just about to say it... yeah, there it is!) I don't usually look for BUG+1 and unique rectangle unless the setter has promised uniqueness, since it's not in the traditional rules. (I know, nonunique solutions are 'unfair' in some sense....) And yup, your remote pair is my XY-chain. XY chaining includes a lot of the named strategies.
You nailed this Kevin, like we were solving this together. Great job spotting that. And yes, remote pairs are a type of XY-Chain as you noted. One of my favorites to spot. 😎
I'm wondering if I made a well-placed blunder, because this puzzle was easy, straightforward, and *fast* for me. I began with Rangsk's opening, scanning the bands for repeated digits and crossings.. Once I got into all of the follow-ups, I could only pretend that I was still following his method and would eventually return to the bands. Eventually, I gave up that pretext as I had too much else to do. 6:30 World championship Sudoku with only intermediate strategies? "Beam me up, Scotty. There's no intelligent life here." It was a well-placed blunder. I was backtracking, and I noticed you had Snyder 2s where I'd placed 2 and 5. I backtracked to where I'd placed the 5, and saw that it was unjustified. Sigh. When things seem too good to be true, they usually are. I returned to the point, and this time finished the puzzle right. It was harder for a while, and at one point I felt stuck and resorted to centermarking the grid. Every block but 3 and 9 were finished, and I was attracted to 6s in blocks 4, 5, 7, and 8 -- 68 pair in blocks 2 and 8, 26 pair in blocks 1 and 7. I didn't recognize it as a skyscraper but the effect was the same. 6 in block 8's 68 forced 6 into block 2's 68. That was the end of any difficulty, although I found a few other interesting positions including a 45 skyscraper. 8:50 The skyscraper (that I missed) in 6s is visible now. 10:40 Why get stuck here, with so many "heavy houses" available? In fact, everything is "heavy". 12:40 That was the 45 skyscraper.
I like that you use the Rangsk method, John, and that you take the time to figure out where you went wrong. That type of analysis is similar to what chess players do, and it is the key to their improvement.
I wish I did. I do not know of a phone app that will give you random puzzles that you can color. I set these puzzles in Sudokumaker on a desktop and then solve them in SudokuPad, which has a coloring feature.
It was a little tough but when the 45 sees 1's and 5s at box 7, it was easy to determine what number it truly is but it was more on a 50/50 chance. Your remote pair is more valid, which collapses the puzzle much more efficiently.

Nice job Ana. It does end up being a fast solve, and I think Prasanna did a a good job of leading the solver to see the advanced strategy.

Awesome puzzle!
Glad you liked it Jon!
I spotted the BUG+1 right away and it was easy to solve from the rules (look for 3 numbers with the same value) in your tutorial.
Great job Bill! 😊
I used a skyscraper rather than remote pairs, nice sudoku 😊
Nice Paula. I saw that the skyscraper(s) even works with the same cells. Way to spot that.
Nice one. Do you have a suggestion on an app I can download that allows me to do the coloring?
I wish I did. I do not know of a phone app that will give you random puzzles that you can color. I set these puzzles in Sudokumaker on a desktop and then solve them in SudokuPad, which has a coloring feature.
I used the 'empty rectangle' on 5s in box 7 to place the 5 in the middle.
Nice job spotting the Empty Rectangle! What method do you use to search for them?
It was a little tough but when the 45 sees 1's and 5s at box 7, it was easy to determine what number it truly is but it was more on a 50/50 chance. Your remote pair is more valid, which collapses the puzzle much more efficiently.
Remote Pairs are one of my favorite advanced strategies, so versatile.
Colouring the 5s in the end. 29min for me
Nice job! I love coloring. Thanks for sharing.
This puzzle has two solutions so it is roung puzzle
I check my puzzles before posting. I am sure there is only one unique solution.
How did you get 2?
