A year and a week after An Ode to L'Manburg was released, we take a trip back to memory lane and revisit L'Manberg one more time, viewing our most favorite moments of the once great nation. This song also symbolizes how Dream SMP Music has evolved from just a ukulele to multiple instruments, and how singer-songwriters in the fandom have exponentially multiplied in the past year.

A phrase so simple, yet so iconic.
It's the one sentence that is unchangeably linked to the fate of one certain city-nation, built and destroyed on the Minecraft server known as the Dream SMP.
And as it turned out, the story of this nation, the story of L'Manberg...
It caught the attention of thousands of viewers, took the Internet by storm and touched the hearts of many.
While some may find it puzzling that one would find enjoyment and entertainment in Minecraft roleplay of all things, it is a fact that people have cried over L'Manberg - and especially over these words, the "It-was-never-meant-to-be"s.
And I can tell you with confidence: They cried again today, with the release of this song (heck, even I teared up a little).
Because "It was never meant to be"...
It means shattered ambitions, lost dreams, a spark of hope dying in the roaring flames, the inferno of destruction.
It paints the picture of desillusioned, broken people looking their self-made tragedy in the eye, sees them comprehending the loss of what was once considered pure and perfect, fills their tainted memory with vibrant color of old things beloved, and that image moves us, is a mirror of pure emotion, an illustrated, elaborate storybook.
The words tell the story of a king who got crowned for leading his/her/their friends into their demise.
They tell the story of a bright leader turned villain whose treacherous path lead him right into his father's arms - dead amidst rubble and dust.
They tell the story of a girl that set the sprout of her nation aflame, bidding goodbye to everything she once believed in.
And not everyone will understand.
But we do.
We, the community.
And we honor these stories and their meaning.
People often only see the negative sides of the MCYT and DSMP fanbase, when in truth, the positives can outweight the reputation that an inconsiderate few give us.
I've had the chance to talk to some of you;
And never have I met Internet strangers as talented, supportive and kind as you are.
We may not know each other, but we bonded over the things we like.
And the things we like, that's not just the mentioned blockgame and the creativity and perhaps, nostalgia, anymore.
Some of us are interested in the DSMP because the streamers entertain them and give them comfort.
Lore ethusiasts tune in on behalf of following the story, and the discussions that follow.
But most importantly for this video, it's the art - any form of art, like the songs you write, that comes out of it, which charms and touches us.
Any positive we experience is pieced together in art, in the works that this community creates.
From the smallest comment to entire animations and animatics, we do and make the things that we love and bring enjoyment to other fans.
And in the case of this video, for both the singers dear darugona and daiikon illustrated so beautifully and the ones behind the scenes that you cannot see, these "things that you love" is music.
DSMP music has been around for over a year now, and rarely does a fanbase have such extensive musical fan content.
We're at a point where there must be hundreds of, perhaps over a thousand DSMP fansongs - and all of them have their own, unique sound.
Hundreds of voices have sung songs tailored to MCYT and especially the DSMP (and there are even more musicians producing scores and orchestral pieces) and so many of them came together to make the creation of this collaboration - possibly the biggest music-specific collab the MCYT and DSMP communities (or even most other fanbases) have ever seen - a reality.
This is an ode to the fictional nation that got destroyed three times before it was allowed to rest in peace, still remembered with both grief and joy by its former citizens, both the characters and the viewers.
But it is also a tribute to the fans, most notably DSMP musicians, and everyone who enjoys their music.
And yes, we can lament that L'Manberg wasn't meant to be but...
It's existence brought all of these wonderful artists together, them, and us, the people in the comment section.
And I shall hope that we all agree that this *was* meant to be.

everyone, i happen to be one of the people who have witnessed the making of this song behind the scenes for a solid few months now. can we all thank pj for having the guts to bring together so many creators together for the most nostalgic song you will ever witness? it takes a lot of courage, confidence, and so much more to contact all these people for something like this. she's truly a huge gift to the community. i've seen the things she's done for this song, making sure every single detail is perfect and in place. so much love and thought went into this project and im so proud i was part of it. I couldn’t believe it. It’s been a year already? It seems like it had just been yesterday that L’Manburg had gone kaboom for the very first time. Time really does fly.
I’m incredibly excited to hear what had been done here, and the fact that pretty much most of the Dream SMP artists are involved in a project together? It’s almost like a dream come true.
With that said, I am genuinely looking forwards to this release, and I already know that I’ll love it! :D

It seems like it was so recently that all of you absolutely amazing songwriters released your first song, or your fifth, or tenth, while in reality it's been way longer and time flies by so quickly. I am super excited for this, you've all gone such a long way since then and will get much further I'm sure!! And know that a lot of people will stick around if/when any of you stop releasing mcyt related music, and I'm looking forward to all of your future releases
The dream smp music community was one of the best things that have ever happened to me, and this song reflects all our growths, our trials and tribulations, and how much we've bonded over a block game. L'Manberg might not have been meant to be, but /we/ all were

L'manburg, you were glorious while you existed, a ray of hope shining in the darkness, but that light dimmed, more and more, til there was none. You were a great symphony, now unfinished forever. And though everything was destroyed you are a reminder of the mistakes, losses, and victories we went through. Your flag still waves vibrantly in our memories. However tragic your story may have ended we will all remember you with respect. L'manburg, you were truly never meant to be. But maybe in a life, a different world, you were able to exist in harmony.

I’m imagining all the background characters that act as the audience like technos voices,Phil’s crows,tubbo’s bees and other things all coming together to sing about this glorious story we watched and even helped with come to a end and opening up the gates for a new story to rise up and take its place. It’s truly beautiful here and hopefully this will be meant to be.❤️💕♥️

May I tell a little story?
1 year ago, I found An Ode to L'Manburg and I'll let it burn. I wanted to hear them on piano, but there were no tutorials, so, I took a covered in dust piano and started trying, then continued learning how to sing and play, which turned out to be one of the most enjoyable things in my life
Those songs inspired me return to playing piano and singing, which I'm really thankful for :)
Also, since then, I've been looking for every DreamSMP song I could find (So, now my alt account became a collection of around 650 songs made by amazing people \o/)
Watching how those talented people are growing is awesome, and it's awesome to see them create something beautiful together!

Two years and many tears later, this hits different- for more than one reason. I wish I'd found Dream SMP earlier. I only heard of it as it was ending, and this song in July 2023. I wish that I could have been there, making fan content and wondering what would happen on the next lore stream. But maybe, it was Never Meant to Be. This song stands not only for L'Manburg, but as a tribute to the entire Dream SMP and its very talented fanbase. Here's to THREE years of Dream SMP music and memories. o7.

THIS IS AWSOME! I love it when people put really big effort into making these love-letter projects. Everyone did such a good job. And the fact that BeetleBugs voice sang the first and last line of the song got me emotional. Also, the song only playing the ukelele and becomes to something more as the song goes on is a really creative way to symbolize how talent has grown in the community. The DSMP fandom is crazy talented. Thank you to everyone who's in this song and who's impacted the community

Coming back to this a year later, after the Dream SMP has closed and we have all said goodbye, I can't help but feel a little emotional. This was such an impactful time in my life. I found some of my closest friends through the Dream SMP and while some of those friends have drifted away, the time that I spent loving and being a fan of this SMP has changed me. My 50+ fanfictions of the Dream SMP paint a story of how obsessed I was with it. How happy and inspired it made me. I'm a different person now. I think we all are. But that doesn't make what we all experienced as a community any less special.
I think that this was meant to be. Here's to a special three years of laughs and angst and drama that we all shared together.
And, again, repeating what I said in a comment a year ago in reaction to this amazing song, thank you. Thank all of you. Artists, song writers, even just normal fans. You made this community what it is. I love every single one of you for making our time with the Dream SMP as special as it was.
Let's never forget what we shared together.

Time really does fly by, I'm so extremely proud of everyone part of this and I'm amazed at how Dream SMP music evolved. I have countless DSMP songs on my favourites playlist and I'm sure this one is going on there as well.

This is the one song we will always come back to. We will put everything down when we hear it, just to feel the past rushing over us again like waves, maybe of sadness, but it's a special sadness.
One that lets us see that it was never so bad and that we always had this song. This place.
Yet back then it didn't seem like much. Just a bunch of friends joking on a Minecraft server.
But L'manberg was never just a country. It was never just a couple of chunks of blocks of land. It was never just some pixels in a video game.
It was a story. An idea.
And fortunately for us, those last forever.

Anyways, that aside, this was great, it was just a sort of, coalescence of Drram SMP music, and the history of Lmanburg as a whole. It somehow manages to focus on those two thing with equal intensity, not letting one overshadow the other too much. Overall, a great song, sad that I wasn't here for the premiere or the afterstream, but hey, atleast I still heard it. Can't wait to see what what future has in store for the entire Dream SMP fandom, singer, animator, songwriter, etc. Now if you excuse me, I'm going to go channel hunting for everyone in this video.

I came back to this after listening to the single version on Spotify today, to say: This song makes me even more sad, now that the DreamSMP (or at least season one of it) is actually ending. I always thought that this song would play when the DreamSMP ended. It feels like the whole fandom is coming together to say one final goodbye to season one of the DreamSMP. To say goodbye to L'Manberg. The discs. The characters. The world.
There will be a new start, which is good, but I will always miss the old characters, L'Manberg, the old world with all it's buildings and the story.
I will always associate the DreamSMP with the original/old server and storyline, no matter which other stories will come.
And with season one of the DreamSMP always in mind, I would now like to say another thing: DREAMSMP SEASON TWO, HYPE!!!
A year of Dream SMP music.
As the Dream SMP changed and evolved, so did the fan creations. It was an emotional rollercoaster with ups and downs, heroic moments and tragic ones. There were betrayals and friendships and so much more. The rise (and fall) of L'manberg was one of the most influential moments, as we saw L'manberg fall and rise until finally, it became dust and ashes, never to rise again.
So slimesccl was right it will turn into dust eventually
A year, huh? Time sure do fly fast, I literally can't explain how much this story that was a joke between friends made me cry, laugh, have dumb moments-- all of that. I'm glad i joined in the rollercoaster. o7 to everyone and L'manburg (the DSMP in general.)
To think, this song came out a year ago, L'manburg fell two years ago and so much more. I am proud to say I've been there for most of it and will remember it fondly. Twas never meant to be.
When i heard the trailer a few days ago, I cried. Now that i've seen the song itself, Im definetely going to be adding this to my playlist. I'll probably be dragging my friends along to listen to this song for months or even years to come. You have shown me to not give up on watching the DreamSMP members, and listening to your songs helps me get through my schoolwork. I hope you know that my friends and I will continue to listen to your songs and continue to support you and everyone else in this song alone, plus everyone who does DreamSMP animatics and theme songs and covers. Honestly, this song isn't just about the members.. But us aswell. We never would've expected what has come from this. We came to trust the UA-camrs to see them betray others.. We are all here fighting alongside the creators, making content, supporting the content, watching dsmp, we are all part of this. We all probably raised our fists with them.. We all probably felt the betrayal as if it was towards us.. We did raise our hopes, as we all were so excited.. A new way of things in a seemingly normal SMP, that now paves the path for future lore SMP's. Here's to a year of Dream SMP. Here's to a year of amazing content. Here's to a year of amazing music and people. Here's to those still fighting and hoping L'manberg comes back. Here's to those accepting what happened. Here's to everyone here, Here's to everyone reading this comment who has been alongside the UA-camrs or has atleast seen the content once or twice. Here's to it all. L'manberg wasn't meant to be, but the freedom and hope and all it has sparked in the communities, was meant to be. Never doubt your soul. L'manberg as a nation, is gone.. But the idea of freedom, the idea of a place where we all fit, thats the Dream SMP community. Artists, Idea-ists, Singers, Writers, Shippers (Yes even shippers!!), and even those who just want to watch the amazing community grow and want to support it.. You all have a place!! A song so simple, a phrase so simple, isn't so simple..
I have been in many fandoms, and this is the kind of reason why I am the most dedicated and proud, by far, of this community
I've been in this fandom for a little over a year now and seeing the musicians, artists and writers grow has been one of my favorite parts of being in it. It's amazing to see how far everyone has come this past year. You guys did incredible on this, and I can't wait to see what's next!! :)
Coming back to this song after the Dream SMP has ended hits hard. I know it was “just a Minecraft server.” But it was really more than that, it was a community full of creative content creators, it was a community full of amazingly talented individuals. But most importantly, it was a community that made so many memories together, even though we were all separated by screen. It was unifying.

Well I’m in tears
L’Manburg and the Dream SMP was the light that got most of us through what was probably some of the worst years of our lives. The pain, the conflict, the victory, the happiness, we felt it all when we watched those streams. There’s never been a story that has moved me more than the take of L’Manburg and the Dream SMP and I don’t think there ever will be. Stories and songs and animations were made to commemorate the stories that we have held near and dear to our hearts for all these months. Some may say that it was never meant to be, that the community following the Dream SMP is just a bunch of stans wanting to see their favorite cc’s yell at each other in a block game but it’s so much more than that. We’ve built a community and it’s one of the best things I could’ve ever asked for. I wouldn’t have made so many friends, so many memories without the Dream SMP. I wouldn’t have written so many stories and joined my own SMP.
What I mean to say with all this is: Thank you. Thank you to everyone who made this community what it is and thank you to the Dream SMP for giving us a space to connect and create. Thank you to the artists and everyone who even talks about it. It was meant to be, and we still stand strong even when L’Manburg or whatever else falls.

This is probably my favorite song that’s been put out by The DreamSmp community. It truly captures the insane universe that exploded from this Minecraft server. I’m thankful for all of the artists who worked on this song, and for all creators and the story that inspired it. Thanks forever.
This was so beautiful, I really started crying. I'm so glad that I found this community of so many talented people, inside and off the dsmp. The songs, the art, the stories, it all grew into a community like no other and I'm glad that I'm one of the witnesses. When someone finds this in five years, they won't know what they've missed.
It's been a while since I've last watched a DSMP related video. I doubt I'll get back to it like I did before, but this was a good reminder of the wonderful story small and large content creators gave us. We never asked for a wonderful story on such a simplistic looking game, we never asked for these moments to be drawn frame by frame to give them more life, amd we never asked for wonderful songs, yet we have them.
I'm clearly late to this party. But I'm glad I made it.

I've only been in this fandom for a few months, and laughed at it when it first popped up in my recommendations. And yet here I am now, spending my money on fanzines, music, stickers, and more to show my pride for being in this fandom, and spending hours watching analysis videos and animations. I know some people think this whole thing is stupid, or the fandom is toxic. I was one of those people. Now, I have to say that this community is a beautiful thing, and was only started by the creators. Now, the community really has taken control with fanfictions, animations, songs, merch, and even more. This fandom helped hundreds of people find their voice. The most powerful thing about the song is y'all making a toast to the best of things we witnessed on the smp and the sweetest moments and feelings but at the same time saying the it was never meant to be as if it was worthless :(( Beautiful job over all PJA. You know you’ve done well when you can recognize most of the people singing (I recognized a few) but seriously this is amazing and extremely nostalgic. Tysm for this masterpiece

Or a extra scene where they all are around the L’Manhole singing this.
Having had to deal with being bullied for liking Dream SMP is terrible when those people don't see this. See our community. See me crying over a nation that, yes, existed in a Minecraft world, but it brought us all together just the same. Those people will never understand the heartbreak of watching a thing you love be blown to smithereens. See your favorite character die along with it. Understand these complex emotions and relationships of each of these characters. At the end of the day, streamers, musicians, animators, and artists have brought more than 2 million people from across the globe into a single, sad, happy mix.

It feels like it hasn't been that long at all
damn, I remember when the only animatic was sadist’s and how the only smp art was from that animatic. now there are countless arts and musicians out there creating for this fandom. it’s been an honour to watch this fandom form and grow into what it is today :)
This song really helps me comes to terms with the destruction of L'Manburg. Too much had happened there, and as much as its citizens loved it, there was too much pain and sorrow in its history, caused mostly by its own people. The place was destined to be brought down.
But those people still exist, those bonds that haven't been broken are stronger than ever. And perhaps, even if L'Manburg was never meant to be, perhaps those friends were.
“It was never meant to be.”
-The words of a king, once trusted and treasured. Gained their power through betrayal, through hurt. Led their comrades, partners, family, into war, into loss.
-The words of a leader, once passionate and determined. Turned insane through corruption, pride, politics. Blew up the nation created for freedom, for hope.
-The words of a girl once full of hope, once loyal and faithful. Turned against her home and all she believed in, trust that was broken and was never gained again. Set aflame the bench and the tree she once sat on with her friends, whom she wounded beyond repair.
-The words of traitors.
L’manburg caused hurt that would never be redeemed. It really was never meant to be.

We have improved so much individually and as a community and I'm so happy to meet such amazing people in it. This song is so close to my heart and I'm so happy to be a part of this. I admit, I started tearing up because of this.
You all did a wonderful job portraying this nostalgic vibe with your voices, the lyrics and the photos in the background. It seems a very fitting milestone, to the awesome things that emerged from this fandom due to incredibly skilled and talented people.
Being here, a part a the fanbase has been a quite amazing journey. No matter where it'll lead us, I'm glad for all the joyful memories it brought me.

Rewatching this for the umpteenth time, and I just wanted to put into words the image this song puts into my mind.
l'Manburg is gone, and its former citizens have started to scatter across the land. The land's two founders, its last president, and the man who unwittingly ended up setting in place the pieces that led to the land's destruction have sung the anthem one final time, and gone their own ways as well.
However, an undetermined amount of time later, one by one, the land's former citizens return to the place that was once their home. Nobody really knows why, but they all share one thing in common: they wanted to say a final goodbye before the land is truly laid to rest. For one night only, a truce is held between the people there, grudges temporarily cast aside. After all, they're all feeling the same grief, so why would conflict be appropriate at this time?
Suddenly, the soft sound of a ukelele rings through the air, and when many pairs of eyes drift towards the source, they see that the music is coming from the land's last president. His voice also starts accompanying the ukelele's strings, beginning a song about loss, grief, and acceptance. A second voice joins him after a few moments, this one accompanied by the soft strings of an acoustic guitar, played by the same man who played the guitar for the final time the land's anthem was sung. After this, two more voices join, these ones coming from the land's founders, one of them even holding an electric guitar. Shortly after, the elder founder's son also joins in, a piano accompanying his voice. One by one, more and more voices join in, along with a saxophone being added to the instruments, until eventually every voice in the area is contributing to the song in some way.
Once the final line is sung, heads are bowed in respect to both the land and its people, until eventually the last instrument also plays its final note, and the people start to disperse once again. Grudges are picked up again the next day, conflicts never-ending, but the people who were there will forever remember the one single night where the land's most important quality, the pursuit of peace, was realized for just a moment.
It may never have been meant to be, but for just that one night, this one sentence was forgotten by all.

It's still crazy how it's been almost a year since the Ode of L'manberg came to our lives and how this nation that started as a drug van brought many people including myself to create such amazing songs,stories,and art. God the but with the pictures, Tubboat for some reason realky almost made me tear up. This song is so beautiful evrytime I listen to it I tear up, it’s so beautiful gahhhhhh new favourite song. Awwwh I just love it! So much has happened over the past year, it’s crazy.
i remember watching an ode to l’manburg in school when i knew absolutely no one who had even heard of the dream smp and now i regularly see people wearing merch everywhere it’s so surreal that i’ve been here for so long
