I used to hate trios but now that I'm decent at the game I find it even more enjoyable than duos. It's easier to third party a long fight between two trios and, as you said, less chances to be third partied yourself. Plus it feels very rewarding to down three people by yourself rather than two, and the extra money is welcome

I typically see Solos more often in Duos than Trios, but the duo solos tend to run a wider variety of weapons (Shotguns, bows, silencers, rifles) where as trio solos tend to be more snipers.
However, I tend to run solo into Trios just because I try to third party a fight and it's easier to get lost in the chaos when no one knows whose team you're on, which I find quite fun.

I always chose solo vs duos since I figured it was less people and easier to handle, however lately I've been giving myself the "who cares" attitude and started doing solo vs trios. (even with fresh, free hunters, regardless of gear) I have found it to be some of THE MOST FUN I've had in hunt in a long time. Got a lot of good stories from it, and I couldn't care less if I get the bounty. I would just play and see what happens, and if I could get my hands one a bounty and leave, that's all that mattered to me. So now I got great fun, and great stories from it, all games MOSTLY without self revive and such. I think solo v trio is the best if you're looking to just go out and goof off.

I think a big bonus for playing against trios is if YOU are the 3rd party engaging an ongoing fight you might confuse teams. They don't know who you are, which team you part of or even where the shots are coming from. If a duo fights another duo in my experience most of the time they notice instantly that there is another player because they have already two players in their sights. Playing vs trios there is a change that you confuse them and they might think they are still getting shot by the third player of a trio before they realize that there is a 4th player shooting at them.
P.S. it doens't matter if playing duos or trios. It often just feels like that people are trying to get their extra advantage by dropping their MMR via quickplay as solo. Today we had a dude with 4 times!!! of our KDA. Of course he wiped our team before we could do anything. And that feels just wrong. And it was not obviously the first time he wiped a whole trio within seconds. Imagine you have only time for 2-3 rounds for the evening and you are always facing guys like him. Not a very funny experience of Hunt, isn't it?
Of course people will say now "get gud". But many gamers are past their peak or don't have the time to reach a skill level of having a KDA of +4 and 10k kills.

I'd love to see you do a video on what kind of game changes Hunt could go through, ai monsters, traits etc
For example changes for when you have 2 certain traits equipped, they'd have additional effects, e.g Doctor and Physician when used at the same time would give you the ability to sense med-kits in dark-sight at 25m.

I don't like playing against duos because they often sneak through the map and unexpectedly shoot me in the face around some dirt mound. Trios are easier to spot, and once you figured out where the three teams are you're all set, as opposed to the endless waves of duos coming to third party.

I go back and forth between queuing into duos and trios - if I'm feeling confident in my aim, I go trios for the freedom of movement and not getting third partied as often. If I'm not as sure about my aim that day, or if I'm feeling particularly rattish, I'll queue into duos so the fights are easier at the cost of having to be much sneakier.

  • @millenium1109

It's definitely much easier for me to go into Duos as a Solo. Having that extra 3rd person to fight on a team is rough, especially when you have people coordinating shotgun pushes with rifle cover, or people bring three grenades each to the map and you have to dodge all of them. In duos a lethal ambush evens things out and puts a lot of pressure on the surviving enemy. If there are two survivors to deal with, one can focus on fighting you while the third picks up the dead teammate. On a side note, if you have Necro as a solo, a lethal ambush puts the fight in your favor, because even if you trade with the other guy you can get back up, and he can't. Another side note, I think your playstyle also makes a huge difference. If you thrive on chaos, go into duos. Trios are a lot calmer and more calculated. They tend to panic less when one of them goes down in an ambush, and long fights only tend to develop on two fronts instead of say... four. Meanwhile, prolonged fights in duos will draw in more participants, and snowball into a chaotic mess. The bloodthirst, especially during events that force you to do damage to players with specific weapons/ammo, is very real... and can be overwhelming.

Most solos encountered as a solo:

  • @Sykasa

As always the answer is; it depends. There are days i play against duos, some days trios. Mostly it's my loadout that dictates the decision. Shotgun goes duo most of the time, while a long ammo gun is more of a trio game for me. I personally feel like trios plays easier, since you can easily track teams around the map and play to your loadouts strength without running into other teams randomly.
Duos are for run and gun, Trios for tactical gameplay and wanting to actually extract with a bounty.
PS: Of course that's a personal opinion. That's not a rule working for everyone.

Nice vid! For me, it depends on my loadout, and I'm surprised you didn't mention that at all. For a close-range loadout, I'd rather have duos - if I can rush a team whilst they're fighting boss or otherwise distracted, getting 2 kills before they react is often doable, but that third hunter might well have time to react and kill me. For longer range loadouts I'd rather have trios on, because of what you mentioned about there being fewer teams - less chance of a spawn fight or otherwise stepping on someone in a forest where I'm at a disadvantage.

If i can manage to get down that one experienced player then I'm very comfortable for the rest of the fight but otherwise I'm not good enough to win against one dude with same experience as me and his team mates
Also one thing I realized is solo necro helps you to save your hunter AT BEST, everytime when I die, they insta burn me and camp my body, I can only manage to wake up at my last bar to save my hunter
Another thing is, I encounter SO MANY other solos while playing against trios and most of the time they are very well experienced

    From my experience:
Duos: Fights are generally easier but with higher chances of dying because of 3rd party
Trios: Fights are generally harder but with higher chances of dying because of bad aim/poor decision making/bad positioning
However, extracting with a bounty is at times easier to do in Trios due to there being fewer teams on average & with proper boss-tracking/predicting knowledge (and RNG, of course), one can find themselves at/banishing a boss before a teamfight between 2 or more teams has finished fairly often. Winning a fight and/or extracting with a bounty in Trios is also way more satisfying, though the fights in Duos have the potential to be way more fun because of the sheer amount of chaos there can be due to so many more potential teams participating - especially when fights consist of a variety of weapons & not just hardcore meta loadouts.
As far as what I choose to play, it often depends on the mood I'm in - if I want something a bit more laid back, I'll play Duos, and if I want something a bit more intense, I'll play Trios. Having said that, I also like to try to keep myself in lobbies that are Mid-4 Star on average because those are the most fun, and, in my experience, have the highest amount of ACTUALLY skilled players who are capable & WILLING to play aggressively on average, even if it means potentially dying & losing their character(s). So, if I'm around Mid/Upper-4 Star myself, I may be more inclined to play vs Duos, and if I'm above that threshold, I may be more inclined to play vs Trios until I get back to where I want to (keep in mind, I don't do deranking runs if I am above where I want to be because I think that's gaming the system - I never LET anyone kill me, but I may play fairly more recklessly or with a harder-to-use loadout).

I don't think I have ever played a duos match where there wasn't at least one solo. In trios it's much less common. With that said I think the natural progression for most players trying to break into solo play is to start out in duos and move up to trios once they are comfortable playing as a 1 man team.

1,4k hours and trios still feel too difficult for me. Too much to keep track of and I'm not an aggressive player. I rarely get shot in the back though, as in lower MMRs duos are fairly predictable and I can spot/hear them before they can notice me, so if it's a surprise shot, it's usually coming from another solo that's been already sitting there.

  • @geospotter5067
    @geospotter5067 Рік тому

I generally agree with Mike on this topic but I want to differentiate some points.
It heavily depends on your MMR how many and what kind of solo players you will encounter.
In 2.5 and 3 stars duo lobbies I see many solo players (while an event even more). 4 to 6 solos are quite normal, but these solos aren’t sniping. They have all kind of load outs and are playing Hunt alone. They are often new players.
In 3.5 stars and above lobbies I mostly see the long amo sniper.
In 5 stars trio lobbies I nearly never saw a solo player. Only 6 stars solos can be matched in these lobbies and this kind of player often wants to stay 6 stars and plays the sweaty style and not the more aggressive style like Mike.
When I am playing solo sniper I am the sweat lord. So I play duos because I am not afraid of 3rd parties. I am the 3rd party.
There are more encounters on duo servers to 3rd party and I try to avoid situations where I am not the 3rd party.
I think not so many solos play the aggressive Mike style and are willing to drop MMR where trio servers are better. So I see a lot more solos on duo servers than on trio servers.

People tend to play a lot less passive and push regularly.
I think it's way easier to kill a Trio as a Solo when they try push you, than having to play against an unknown threat,.
Eventually getting headshotted from a different angle than where you were looking.
Plus it's way more satisfying to win a clutch agaisnt Trios than Duos ;)

duos are more unpredictable and match on single bonuty can end up very chaotic when everyone push that makes it more fun imo but the exact opposite with trios, since it's less chaotic it's easier to follow what's going on and thus take the win

I love trios because as a solo, you can bully them with guerilla warfare. I don't even care about winning that much, as long as I can be as annoying as possible. Traps, annoying special ammo, taking shots and retreating, allowing them to revive each other rather than pushing or body-camping... It's so much fun. Yes, I eventually lose the fight most of the time, so no need to feel bad for them. But having been annoying is its own form of reward.

Yeah I think this is a big thing for people to keep in mind. In duos you have more straightforward fights but also are more likely to encounter a duo with solid communication, whereas in trios you have more of a chance of going against a team of randoms which can allow you to force more of the 1v1 scenarios with your own play since they may not be communicating as effectively to counter it.

Honestly. I'm getting to the point that I prefer trios because of all the solos in duos. With the self revive being so prominent in the game now, you get nervous leaving bodies un-burnt. I find therr is a lot of body camping in duos and people are less motivated to move to the bounty for fear of getting shot in the back by a player they have already killed. Personal opinion of course.

I wish I could play with firends but no one I know wants to even touch this game and Im really shy/nervous around strangers in games like this. I dont handle toxic behavor well and always feel like Im holding ppl bc Im new.

Trios are easier and significantly faster to find a game in my experience (5-6star MMR). Duo is when I meet toughest of opponents while trios is just profit and K/D increase. But the biggest difference is playing team with randoms - there's very short window where you can find people to play with and games hassle free duos, whereas trios I can join with randoms and solo alike at nearly all day long and every time be put into a full match. It seems that people prefer trios but I find them boring if there are two bounties on the map. Duos are far less predictable because amount of teams is higher so there's more independent movement around the map.
Personally I wish there were more teams allowed on the map because dual bounty trio doesn't work at all. Especially when 2 other teams gang up on a single bounty and you're left twirling your thumbs...

I have almost never played trios as a pure solo player in close to 1300 hours. I tend to bounce between 3-5 stars MMR rating, that depends on the loadout and how well I'm playing.
Solo running into a 3 man of well playing 5 stars sounds like a bad time. It can already be a bad time when vs two people. But since the MMR will be lower in trios, I will give it a go. In my head this just sounds a lot more difficult: ok there's a 3 man team coming my way, never stops moving and jumps around and bam I shot him, ok he jumped so I hit his chest and now there are three people shooting at me. Two always sounds more manageable.

MMR doesn't matter in oceanic servers a lot of the time because there's just not enough of a player base. I went in solo as a 3 star against trios a few times and got lobbies full of 5 and 4 stars. So other than less teams and being able to predict player movement a bit more it's just not worth it.

I used to be good at duos until I hit 5 stars....most people know how to click heads and it started being really hard .. and yeah I really struggle on rotation

Always trios for me. Though I am better at map knowledge and positioning than aiming.
But the real reason I do is because of MMR. I don't like playing in 5 and 6 star lobbies because of the aiming issue.
Fighting at a disadvantage against lower MMRs will actually drop your MMR. Fighting against similar and dying barely does so. But fighting against similar and winning will continue to raise you.
If you're having a bad time in high MMR because you weren't ready to be placed there, play trios. It's the only way out.

I'm entirely happy to take a harder fight in trios, with less chance of getting shot in the back of the head right as the fight's getting good. I'm there for a good time, not a long time.

I prefer Trio Queue. In the last 10 Matches i played in Duo Queue there were a total of 5 Duos, not an average but a total. Duo Queue = Solo Queue at least at the moment.

I only and I mean "only" have 600 hours in the game, and I have taken a break for a few months. It's funny how after time away I lose any prescient skill and end up dying to failed tactics that would still be tight if I had kept playing. Reason Why hunt is still my favorite pvp even though I prefer 3rd person! It's constantly evolving and if I don't keep up I suffer accordingly. Hasn't gotten stale yet!

i kinda find it way easier to play solo vs trios, trios tend to be more loud than duos. in duos i feel like i could be in one compound nd the whole server could be there and be quiet cuz everyone is just ratting, but trios more chaos happens that you can intervein. also as a trap enjoyer, i really dont mind being at boss alone, rather than having teamates and worrying that theyll destroy my traps with their bodies lol and i know i can comfortably rotate with my traps and hop over them because i know they are there(and yes i tell them where they are but sometimes with frontiersman and packmule i can sort of go ham with the traps and it becomes too much for them to track remember haha)

Fun Fact: Hunt Showdown was originally a 3rd person zombie shooter similar to World War Z. It kept the same theme of 1895 alternate history Louisiana, but it would have been 3-player coop
Also, thanks Mike for another great conversation on Hunt!

As a longammo solo sniper I would prefer trios - don't get the point of those guys on duo servers. Trio Servers seem to be less predictable in terms of team composition - as soon as a solo is on. Most time its not only 3x3 + 1x2 + 1x1 - it can be 2x3 + 1 or 1x3, 3x2 and 3 solos and so on. On duo servers I know, there are a lot of partys. If it's 6 or 8 is not much of a difference for me. The chance of getting other teams in interaction and being the 3rd party myself is much bigger.

I hate random teammates, for me they are unstable and not useful. I'd rather play solo so if my friends offline I'm always solo. I prefer trios for the same reason - less teams = less chaos. You have a good control on the gunfight if you are experienced enough to recognize noises and predict enemy movements.
But also I'm playing a lot duos vs trios. And that is another dimension. Once we even had a match on trios server where were only teams of two players. Not solo, not trios. Just duos xD
