2023: Tom Ford

I had been thinking about this belt ever since I saw it, so I texted Stefan to see if he had the item in. The thing is, having an old friend as the sales manager is great because knowing Stefan as well and as long as I have, he never ever pressures me to buy anything. He’s utterly relaxed and he’s been like that ever since I’ve known him. It’s likely why he’s such a success.
Steffy responded that he would pull it in from another store and we would just see if it suited me. I wanted the reversible belt in Black and Chocolate so I could easily switch it up depending on my attire.
With a Tom Ford shop around the corner from me in Chicago last week, I wanted to make sure Stefan had it in. He confirmed he received something, but wasn’t sure if it was the right size. But I figured if it doesn’t fit or suit, it’s a sign.
I arrived at Harry Rosen this morning - the shop is in my work building, after all. The ooor salesmen were ready to pounce, but I made a b-line to Stefan, and he brought the belt from the back. He mused that he thinks the same company that makes belts for Hermes likely makes them for Tom Ford. Who knows.
A year ago my one big purchase for myself was an H Belt. It was something I had wanted for over 20 years, and I was resolved to get a second one. But being that I wasn’t going to Singapore for Christmas, and didn’t necessarily want to spend as much, was looking around for other possibilities. Also, when I dropped into Hermes in Yorkville a couple weeks ago, I looked at the belts in stock. All of them were horrible. I could see they were likely purchased for a set of clientele with money and no taste.
Today’s belt was exactly what I hoped for. I really liked the asymmetry.
My mother approved.
