    Always an even handed and we thought out review. I still appreciate you being one of the few American car critics that recognized the value of the Mitsubishi Mirage and didnt completely kill it.

    As soon as I saw the ladder, cone, and Red Bull can I was thinking Uncle Rico. If only coach had put me in. Great review for a decent little garden tractor.

    I don't know why car makers think pleather is an upgrade. I hate vinyl seats - broiling hot in the summer and they don't breathe. Even with the perforation they're going to get your back sticky. Much rather have cloth. To me the LE seems like a better deal. Oh, love the football and golf shots. I'll give you a thumbs up just for those. lol

    As a "Mazda" it needs a manual option especially with only 106hp on tap. And how does any car not come with a center console with an armrest these days?! It's 2020!

    The Yaris is Toyota's loss-leader; you won't get exciting performance from it (and it wasn't really designed for such). It's all about economy (and perhaps being talked into buying a Corolla when you realize how relatively basic the Yaris is ;) )

    Mazda 2 has added Android Auto, whereas Toyota still has not put Android Auto in its own Corolla sedan. Unfortunately, Toyota is not offering an upgrade to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay like Mazda did for 2014-2018 models

    With the all-new (from the ground up yet on the TNGA platform) 4th-generation Toyota Yaris revealed a month ago for overseas markets, I think everyone will begin to demand Toyota to bring that model here in North America.
    If it succeeds, then they hopefully will bring it here for the 2021 model year. (maybe)

      They wont sell this new Yaris hatchback for only a year and change it to another new Yaris hatchback next year. Car companies just dont do that. What would be the point? What makes the Toyota built Yaris better? As far as demand, in my opinion much of the general public has no idea that the Yaris even exists let alone a different Toyota built European model that they could potentially sell here in the US. Gold Pony did a review on this car recently and introduced it as the first year of the Yaris Hatchback and he had no clue they have been selling a Yaris Hatchback in the US since 2007.

  • @davinp

    This car is a little smaller than the Toyota Corolla and a smaller engine. Because it is a Mazda2, it doesn't have Toyota's safety sense. Unlike the Corolla, push to start/smart key is standard and LED headlights are not standard

      NextLevel Journey I’m American didn’t know there were different Yaris

    • @nextleveljourney6612
      @nextleveljourney6612 4 роки тому

      msmith2654 Yes Ma’m - Because Toyota has created a relationship w/ Mazda -
      and Mazda is revamping their entire lineup and aiming into Premium (to the level of Acura, Infinit, Lexus) -
      Toyota is selling Mazda’s “2” as a rebadged Toyota because it’s literally much nicer than the Toyota Yaris and also Nissan Versa.
      So: the “Mazda 2 disguised as a Toyota” -- is how Toyota is helping Mazda to recreate their image as a Premium carmaker (by disguising Mazda’s smallest car as a Toyota - so that America perceives Mazda as being like Acura/Infiniti/Lexus instead of like Nissan/Kia/Hyundai.)
      I hope this explanation I’ve offered makes sense.
      Anyway- the Versa is decent car, as long as you choose a 2019 or newer in the next few years (because 2019 model is much better than the previous years). My Two Cents.

    "Not a bad deal" is not quite the depth of review I usually see with ol' Dave. He has a bit of a bias against small, efficient, practical basic transportation like most reviewers. Maybe he drives a Porsche but most people who want to know about this Yaris would like really good information .... tire size, gas mileage comparisons, Mazda 2 lineage (which is usually raved, Dave), comfort of front seats, highway handling (not just parking lot and "small space" tidbits), warranty and service info....I'm just saying. For such a "dude perfect" review, I think Dave was having his monthly time and maybe it affected his review. Sorry, just not a meaningful review this time Dave. I still believe in you but zero in on this type buyer next time. They are valid too.

      @@everymandriver I'm really sorry you disagree that the more information a buyer gets, the better their decision. But I still appreciate your reviews, you are one of the best. Also, a good sport because 8 or 10 years I voiced the same economy car bias criticism to the guy who does MotorWeek and he reacted almost violently and I was surprised. I just want you all to analyze these cheapo's in the same ballpark as the other inexpensive entry level cars so new buyers and those not very knowledgeable can get good wholesome information so they can choose between the Chevy Vega and Chevy Chevette or Sonic and Focus. After all, the small nuances of difference may really help their decision. Thanks Dave!

    Pure awesomeness, dude. Still rather have a Kia Soul S over the Mazda2/Yaris for more interior and cargo space. ("Mazdota???")
    WTH does Mazda lock out the darn touchscreen when the car is in motion? The front passenger is often using the screen, not the driver. And that catfish looking GRILL!! Ugh....

    • @steve9377
      @steve9377 4 роки тому +2

      Its definitely not a bad thing that its a rebadged Mazda. You get Mazda's great driving dynamics, a traditional automatic transmission which would have probably been a CVT if Toyota built it and Consumer Reports actually lists Mazda a spot above Toyota in their brand reliability rankings for 2019.
