Thanks for the update. I typically watch shorts from those I subscribe to, just to get more content, but I'm here for long form content. However, growing a channel, from the outside at least, feels like it needs to be a calculated endeavor, so you might need to do whatever works, which I won't fault you for. In regards to shop layout, I recently used Jonathan Katz-Moses' shop layout PDF to better visualize what could fit in my small 219sqft garage. It was really helpful actually. Something to consider.
Ha! We have similar goals. I do slice my videos into shorts, see subscriber growth. Can’t rely on YT, so building a woodworking business is my main focus. It seems like YT wants us to narrow down the main topic to a ridiculous point though. Posting same things or what everyone else is posting - makes me feel bored. So i don’t expect huge growth as a UA-camr. Business it is. 😂 i still will be posting cool jigs and what i do for business. Good luck to us in 2023!
I found your channel watching your Saw Stop review. I stayed cause you seem authentic. People watch UA-cam for 2 reasons: 1) searching for a solution 2) entertainment Bottom line: No two woodworkers are the same, do you and let it ride.
Really useful shorts, in the DIY genre, that really show in a clear way what is being illustrated are few and far between. Watching 50 for the 3-ish that are well done ideas/solutions is a huge time suck. Most are rarely more than being somewhat entertaining or heartwarming. Not really good for this particular genre.
JMO..but I suppose it depends on why you have the channel. If it’s a main or substantive income and you really need to then I guess you need to do shorts. I simply do not watch shorts. I enjoy the longer format vids. I also greatly enjoy build vids be it small or larger projects. I often save longer videos when I see the length is more than I can spend at the time and watch later. I sub to several different channels so that being the case I have something to enjoy most days. Best of luck in whatever you decide to do.
I hate shorts! UA-cam is competing with TikTok 🤮by accommodating the short attention span youth. I think it’s degrading to all channels. It brings out my inner 🥷. You can’t please everyone all the time so 🖕🏼that noise and do what YOU want. I’ll be here. I enjoy your videos. I can’t wait for whatever is next. 🫶🏼

So, here is a direction. Do what you want and what makes you happy/fulfilled. Trying to please an audience will never accomplish your goals

My last short got me ten subscribers, so there's that.
