i like how the animals are sort of different endings, the sheep is sort of the coward ending where you just do what the baby says, the rabbit is where you get away from the baby and escape, and hopefully we will see the cat ending when the new black cat stuff comes out

Whoever had the idea to adapt The King In Yellow as a babysitting horror game deserves to know they're brilliant, brilliant bastards.
I myself never read King In Yellow, but based on Wikipedia's entry of it, it sounds like a really interesting collection of stories.
One that caught my eye in that list was Street of Four Winds, which is about an artist who is drawn to a neighbor's room by a cat.
I also learned that King In Yellow inspired a particular SCP, which is 701.

Yeah I was curious if this game was an intentional nod to Hastur, or otherwise known as the King in Yellow.
@@silverflight01 I read it however it’s a book based in the (alternative) future of the 1920’s written in the 1800’s and has a lot of “of the times” messages so it’s pretty hard to follow sometimes. Basic idea is pretty interesting, a bunch of unrelated short stories loosely connect by this play called “the king in yellow”. The content of the play is never reveled but lines come out here or there. “Remove your mask, i’m not wearing a mask” is one. Some of the stories are amazing but some I had trouble following. Worth a read tho

I think the story books were the most disturbing thing of all, and they were brilliant. It really contributed to the amount of anticipatory dread throughout the story.
I appreciated that they refence the situation of the game. The starting mode follows the path of the sheep, the second is the path of the rabbit. The cat is next so we can assume it'll feature a garden of sorts.

I think the graphics being a little funky really adds to the spook factor, like the baby seems almost like robotic. I love when games aren't obsessed with making everything crazy realistic.

i agree to an extent, but imo the game goes too far with it and removes all sense of scariness that would be in the game, with goofy, immersion-breaking ui and big flashy plushie ads, i just dont see how this game got so popular when it's not scary at all
@@waffler-yz3gw it’s definitely not scary, but it’s really fun. I haven’t played the game myself but watching Let’s Plays has been very enjoyable, plus the idea of taking care of an eldritch being as a baby is just really funny lol.
@@waffler-yz3gw I can totally see where you're coming from. For me, his game falls into the so bad its good category. And i think that's the point, they're not taking themselves to seriously. However, the ad bit does concern me. It gives off poppy playtime vibes, of course this is a little different considering this game is free to play (at least on mobile). But even so having ads for your game *in* your game feels gross and almost cheep. Espesicially considering the fact that it's not even remotely subtle... Hopefully they wont try to grossly oversell and capatalize off of this game like other games (bendy and hello neighbor im looking at you) have.

1. When Baby in Yellow appeared in mainstream it was always for very short bursts and not on as big of a scale as Bendy or Poppy
2. The game is very heavily based on "King in Yellow" so it isn't meant to have some obscure secret plot that many other modern horror games try to achieve as it gives them more attention
3. The game never takes itself that seriously, Poppy and Beddy were serious attempts at making childhood memories scary while this game is obviously goofy for a purpose
Something I never knew we needed: An Eldritch themed horror game -- based on "The King in Yellow" by Robert Chambers -- that consists of you taking care of a baby prince. Big props to the developers for making a game with their own unique spin on the stories. Also, over 80mil downloads? WTF-- that's insane. Good shit to the dev team, and thanks Mark for playing the new content! Hope you play the black cat content when it gets released, too.
To summarize: This game is hella dope as a fan of this type of horror fiction, and I hope most, or some of you, will feel the same.
The second I realised it was actually based on The King in Yellow I got so excited!

You might also really like ICEY if you've checked that game out. One of the secret endings is the entire reason I learned about the King in Yellow a long time ago
I looked it up and was watching Tale Foundry's video on it when I realized The King in Yellow is also the basis for Estir in Sucker for Love...

I love the idea that separate videos can be “promoted” from the 3 Scary Games series. That would be epic.
It makes Mark go in depth with the gameplay and honestly I love how they can get promoted into their own videos. It means that he doesn't forget the games
I love how throughout the three stories the player reads to the baby, the prince slowly begins to show more creepy and unsettling features, like the baby. Very nice attention to detail, helping to show more about the baby the player is babysitting.
The baby is the prince reincarnated or just a disguise since he’s probably immortal and he doesn’t have parents to call player to babysit he lured the babysitter there to make “new friends” like the story books. Or maybe he does have parents and they were getting him a friend :)
For those curious, Hastur is also known as the King in Yellow. He's basically an eldritch god (old ones) from the same mythos as Cthulu. Some variations have him as Cthulu's half-brother, iirc. I'm not super well versed on it, sadly, but the general gist is there.
Hastur also, originally in Ambrose Bierce’s book ‘Haïta the Shepherd’, was a god of shepherds; do with that information what you will (/informative)

@Kavetion i can play fnaf as good as @markiplier but remember, you have to have skills and practice because playing with the characters in these type of games can trick you so you got to watch out for those characters that are planning tricks in the games

In the Story he (the Cat) left and the painting says he is cooming (back)
There also other connections between the Father & the Cat
The Books & the Paint are made by The Father
The Secret Room you find The Painting in another version is The Father's Secret Room
Also the Father is the only Character that we don't know what happened
The Mother help the BiY (mentioned in the Third Book) the Musicisian was Depressed and ended being consumed by the BiY's Madness
The Doctor also help the Baby (apparently)
& the Babysitter is/are both the Bunny (escaped) & the Sheep (captured)
Okay, so I assume this isn't super apparent because the book itself is semi-obscure but the whole game is paying homage to one of the most powerful entities in the lovecraftian mythos, Hastur; the king in yellow. Essentially a messenger and herald of the outer gods who himself is also an omnipresent outer God whose power is only outshone by his formless parents who are trapped beyond our reality. The symbolism is laid on very thick from the child being called prince, to his clothing, to his ritualistic abidement and even the fact that silencing him can momentarily stop him, and even his symbol/mark that appears.
I can't believe it took me so long to realize the lovecraftian inspiration I was looking to see if anyone else noticed XD

The developer of this game is Scottish and as a Scot I am so proud to see a Scottish developer get this much recognition! Makes me laugh that Mark didn't know what the 'lounge table' was, or hearing nappy and toasties used instead of diaper and grilled cheese sandwiches. Makes the game even cooler to me :)

This is my first time seeing this game and I gotta say that I love that they fully adopt the whole "King in Yellow" narrative for it and use the agreed upon symbols to make it work
The first ending was the sheep, you were serving the baby and was consumed just like the sheep, the second was the rabbit, she ran and escaped as did you, the third will be the cat, that's were you'll fight back
In the cat's story he brought the prince then the prince destroyed everything. I think in the third ending you're going to free him, and he's going to destroy everything.

This would indeed summarily destroy everything, especially since Hastur is known to be a covetous Old One, and much like a child, does not like his toys taken away. Plus, the destruction of all at the hand of the children of Azathoth is merely an inevitability that may only be briefly forestalled, for mere cosmic seconds in the nigh infinity of their majesty.

Love the sneaky touches like at 9:59 when there are yellow eyes peeking out of that painting right by the stairs. When he turns around to check on the baby, by the time he returns, the eyes are gone.

I love that the devs weren't afraid to make this game kind of...goofy. Like, the trope of "demonic possessed child" is so incredibly worn-out at this point that I am really jazzed to see the devs not only have fun with the idea, but really commit to the bit. This game wouldn't be half as hilarious if the devs weren't also having a blast around every corner. The baby exploding out of doors constantly had me in stitches.
