Another great video. Thank you for sharing your purchase, thoughts and experiences working with us! We truly appreciate you and all of your noble ones! :D
I see you finally Got your favorite armor after all these years. Congratulations. Back in 2016 you helped me in an interview for school about Japan and the topic of honor throughout history and we played Nioh back then. And back then you wanted the armor in the game and now you have it in real life. Got a 10 in my assignment so thank you and seriously congratulations, even though the crest isnt Big enough of course.
I honestly think the worn look of the old one makes it that much cooler because we got to see it start off as clean and proper and have seen some of its wear.
Thank you Metatron for the excellent videos! I really appreciate the research and we'll thought out content you create. I am new to your channel and have truly enjoyed watching your videos. I have always had a love for history, but in recent years I have neglected my passion for. Finding your channel has made me rediscover that passion! Thank you very much for inspiring me! I look forward to your future videos!
The armor would be comparable to something like munition grade armor, since it mostly uses 1.2mm(?) mild steel sheets for major components such as the cuirass. Anything else uses lesser. I'd say it'd make a nice costume armor?
Just here supporting your "flop" video, or whatever you called it. Glad you like your new armor, and I hope the chest & lower leg protection came in and is perfect for you.
I'm more interested in your o-yoroi 🙂 There's something about Japanese designs, you can really tell which period they're from and no-matter how effective the weapons and armour are I'd still want them they're so beautiful
I wanted to paint a little Date Masamune on our save the date cards leading up to our wedding, but my now wife would not let me. I thought that would have been hillarious, a little Date who cries out "help!"
I kind of prefer the look of the old set. The new one gives the impression of fake armor (since it is painted, it gives the impression of plastic). It is just TOO clean. The slightly worn look of the old one just reinforces the impression of a real piece, similar to one you would see in a museum. But I suppose the new one will get the "proper" look eventually.
I wonder if your new Armour also comes with a Mask to fit with the Helmet? Also, with you living in America now, any chance we might see you actually shooting a Japanese Arquebus (or reproduction of one) in full Samurai Armour?
As someone who just got samurai armor, I’m still figuring out the process of maintaining it and wearing it. For the main body my front piece folds into the back piece and doesn’t line up right, and I’m not sure if it’s supposed to be like that and not line up right and I just need to tie it tight, but I don’t want to damage the hinge on the opposite side
The Metatron is the greatest samurai to ever live and it’s not even close!!! If he lived in Japan a few hundred years ago he’d clap so many cheeks even the gods themselves would tremble!!!!!
Great video as always. I have a question maybe you can help. For years I have been looking to get some real information why are roman helmets shown with ring on top of helmets for example on trajan's column and others? Is that artistic license or there is actual arqueological evidence?
Hi metraron, I've been watching your videos and I really enjoying it. I love history specially military history, what do like more: the medieval sword, katana samurai or the roman gladius? Greetings from colombia.
I've been doing a big deep dive into your content again and always wanted to ask: how do you go about buying your armor? Do you know specific individuals who craft it for you or do you tend to buy online and provide your measurements? I've been really enjoying your videos on weaponry and armor and have been wanting to start buying more affordable examples and working up. Maybe for LARPing but also just to really appreciate the craftsmanship and learn more. Great video as always!
If I only had the money, I'd jump on that old armor in a heart beat. That armor would fit me almost perfectly, we're about the same height, but I'm scrawnier. It sucks being poor with lots of expensive interests and hobbies.
Good day to all. Do you think that an arm lock such as Waki-Gatame, a lock that works, but is very hard to successfully execute against a trained grappler, would be easier to successfully execute if the opponent was wearing armor such as this or any other medieval armor? On UA-cam there are videos talking about whether this technique works or not, however, no one talks about the historical context that lead to the development of locks such as Waki-Gatame , if such knowledge is known, such as the wareing of heavy battlefield armor for example. Thank you.
@@sengokusanada2690 I can only speak on my opinion on his Japanese armor, not European. Which I am guessing the focus of your question, but I wanted to make sure it was clear. Also, I have not seen every one of his videos on Japanese armor. It is Iron Mountain Armory. Which means, it is not all that authentic. Less so than they used to want to give the impression that it is. Traditional katchushi (armorers) is a very rare, and honestly dying, art. Having work done by one is very expensive. An authentic set of armor can easily run into the tens of thousands of dollars US, while maintenance and repair are also expensive if they require a professional. This means that their clientele is extremely limited. For someone without the budget who wants an armor that kind of approximates how traditional armor was, Iron Mountain Armory might be an acceptable settlement. Beyond that though, I do not own, nor have I handled, any of their products, so I cannot give too much of an opinion beyond a broad stroke. One thing, what Metatron has called a replica of 14th century armor appears not to be. There are not armors on their site that, based on the description, are actual “replicas” of 14th century armor. The closest they have are dō made of a small number of large plates, but are on the surface “decorated” to look like armor made from kozane that would have been in use in the 14th century. So perhaps it is a replica of an older piece trying to imitate the look of 14th century armor while using the fewer number of smaller plates. Which still does not make it a replica of 14th century armor itself. Overall, I will not bash someone for owning a set of their armor. Not everyone, including myself, can afford a full authentically made suit of Japanese armor. However, it is not completely authentic armor either. If someone feels it is “close enough” without having to sink tens of thousands of dollars into a set of armor, that is for them to decide.
If someone found a metal alloy that was light enough to ware but was very very bullet proof, how would you design a suite of armor for modern soldiers going into direct combat?
Excellent armor, but I'm more partial to hon kozane dou, way more than kiritsuke kozane. I like the feel of multiple plates in my armor laced as one. I know and am aware of the necessity of single segments, but I'm still going with individual lacing.
@Metatron Can you consider a video series about the famous/greater samurai clans /families of japan? Their history and how their society was formed and in what kind of ways where some clans different from another? Cant believe I missed this vid for 8 whole months! Awesome so sorry all I know about the date clan is from total war shogun 2
Hehe, when you said "Hotoke Do" I immediately thought "Is it because the chestplate looks like a rounded Buddha statue belly?" Sometimes my instincts are correct. 😄
Will you modify the new armour to have the markings or another clan? I remember the mask you had on the previous set. I also remember the mustache. I didn't like the mustache at the time. I think it would be interesting now.
It would be awesome to own your old armor. BUT I can't afford anything currently & more importantly I'm bigger than you do it would never fit 😂 However I hope whomever gets it will be happy hl& continue it's legacy!
Hey sir! Can I ask a question unrelated to the video? How was scutum realy used? Seems like a shield held like a bucket is rather hard to be used because I don't see a way one can hold it above their heads without puttjng it against their head/shoulders, absording some of the impact of missiles and support it with the other arm on the lower part. Also, how mobile were legeonaries while in a swordfight if the held this shield?? I realy cannot find a way it can work

I bet back in the day an army of samurai would have looked a magnificent sight.
I'm liking and commenting so this video doesn't remain a flop.
You may already know but you can put leather conditioner, on the leather parts, to have them last longer.
A neutral coloured shoe polish would work.
You told us to watch this one -- of course we had to check it out!
What a lovely armour! I have been tossing and turning about getting some iron mountain armoury armour but still not sure!

The armor of a legendary bad@$$ of the Sengoku Jidai! Amazing right down to the clan crest!
I must say this. I do like how as we progress through time, Samurai armor seems to develop into more simplistic and minimalist designs.
When I see darth vader, the helm always reminds me of a samurai helm. 😊
