"Victims impacted by the opioid crisis will now have to wait for millions of dollars expected to come their way" is a really strange way to open a story about the Supreme Court ruling in favor of holding a massive business accountable for killing people. At least, that's how I would write it if I was trying to, say, bury the lead.
I’m one of the lucky ones. I had two scripts for 100 OxyContin when I had two very painful brain surgeries. Not once did I get an urge to use them out of the scope for which they were prescribed. They worked when nothing else did. So grateful. And I’m scared to death to have something like my brain surgeries happen again without the benefit of very necessary medications.
I remember being 13 years old, having my wisdom teeth removed and wondering why I would pass out/get dizzy almost every time I took my pain prescription afterwards. It's because 5MG-10MG Oxycodone instant release are way too potent for most normal sized people under age 18, yet it's still prescribed to minors.
I am an addict in recovery. In AUG 2024 I will celebrate 8 years clean and I know first hand the impact addiction has on people. While I empathize with everyone who was hoping for that money, I think in the long run, you will hopefully come to see that it is in the best interest of ALL of you that the court decided this way because the family responsible for all of this can continue to be held responsible for the damage they inflicted on the people of our country and the world!
I just can’t see it from your view. That would be like making every company liable for the misuse of their products. Such as sports car manufacturers liable for people speeding because the speedometer goes to 150mph……
@@Dingomush Addiction is not a fair comparrion! Unless you have walked the shoes of an addict you will nevr understand! Addiction is a disease! People are misinformed about addiction. Drug use (including drinking) is just a symptom of addition as described in the DSM-5. Many people think that people can decide to stop using drugs. In your argument, what you are saying that people would go 150MPH because it can! What I am saying what additcion is, if we started to see news reports on TV every night from people who got killed in yet one more horrific car crash because they were addicted to going 150MPH and were unable to keep from doing it and at some point they died because of the insanity of driving that fast! My friend, THAT is what that drug was doing to people, they knew it and kept making it anyway all in the name of money! So, yeah! I hope that all those families get what is coming to them and that anyone in the future who's lifes have been destroyed by this horrible drug can get what is coming to them too! In the case of those people who DECIDE to go 150MPH, knowing full well that they could kill themselves doing it, argument does not compare!
@@Dingomush Part of that court case is based on the fact that "misuse" vs. regular use as prescribed doesn't make much of a difference in terms of the patients getting addicted within 1-2 months.
Oh, Great……..How much you want to bet that the price of my prescription is going to go up? It’s already $360.00 a month, and they “swear” that is half price………….
why not just give life long scripts:;) instead kinda jokes but ive donme recory and still cant get clean so the money isnt gunna fix anything going to recorycenters
Meanwhile, us patients are living in hell without hope! I went from one tramadol a day and being able to have a life to literally fainting and vomiting from pain, unable to function in any way. No sleep... And no, i wasn't an addict, my doc stopped prescribing them years ago.

Thank God. People need their prescriptions. The crime is believing you know better than doctors what people should and shouldn't use for chronic and severe pain. To blame addiction, take a look at alcohol, which is legal. Leave people alone and stop frivolous lawsuits by people who don't take responsibility for their actions.

If you are rich, you are a patient, but,if you're a simple hard worker with ulcers and cancer no insurance, you go living with pain every day
Given a drug that’s rewiring your brain and they tell you it’s not addictive. Here take more.

Way to go SCOTUS. What great work you are doing for billionaires.

All in bed together 😢
what happens now, the same thing as has happened, NOTHING
Accountability for what? It’s mainly an illicit fentanyl crisis
This idiot doesn't know about Oxycontin.
So being a crackhead gets you paid good to know whats happened to our country
I think you need to educate yourself about the issue before making such an ignorant comment.
