    Had a buddy living in Gatineau, apartment overseen parliament and all those nice views. He was paying a little bit more for the whole place than I was sharing a house at Sandy Hill. Granted, it was a nice house, private bathroom for myself and the landlord was an amazing person.

      Definitely some nice views in Gatineau for a fraction of the price. Downtown Ottawa is really, really expensive. Compared to right across the bridge. But as soon as you start to push outside of 15 minutes from downtown, prices come down.

    I'm from Gatineau:
    - Finding child care might be harder and more expensive than you think. It depends on where you live and how much money you make.
    - Many people in Gatineau work in Ottawa because jobs in Gatineau are usually not very good compared to the same in Ottawa. (A teacher who does 96k in Ottawa will do 60k in gatineau for the same position... brutal)
    - The local bus service in Gatineau (STO) has become less efficient recently. They have special lanes for fast travel, but the buses in some parts of the city are not good. You might have to wait up to 45 minutes to transfer buses, very frustrating.
    - Health care in Gatineau is very bad, one of the worst in Quebec.
    - Houses in Gatineau are not as cheap as they used to be a few years ago and property values was blowned out too much, if a market is to be adjusted in a near future, Gatineau will mostly drop the most.
    - Schools are not great anymore because they don't have enough resources. In Quebec only, school is starting in 10 days and we are missing 5000 teachers!
    - Some of the School Bus drivers are still on strike
    BENEFITS:
    - Electric scooter are now legal
    - No water bills
    lol

    Gatineau and Ottawa have horrible integration between the public systems. The two cities should stop fighting for funding and work on one system

    • @nickpolegatoRE
      @nickpolegatoRE  Рік тому

      They have an integrated system with buses running into the city from Gatineau. It also isn’t that simple as public transit is funded by property taxes so who is going to give up to cover those cost?

    • @christos.5302
      @christos.5302 Рік тому +1

      @@nickpolegatoRE two cities, two provinces seems extremely complicated in the first place, yes of course after discussing the practicalities you are correct but as someone who comes from Bulgaria I find that the transit system is very expensive and at the same time inefficient for the price. For example I get 4.25$ per ride and a lot of the time* the buses are late by a very large amount. There's of course higher labour costs and it's prolly also the urban sprawl that's causing this, not to mention the amalgamation of neighbourhoods. At the same time I can't ignore the fact I can do the same in my home town for much much cheaper (like 1$) and with lower tax (10%). Also it was very complicated for us when we lived in Gatineau because when you have 2 separate systems people don't know which one integrates to what extent with the other. Just makes everything much more complicated. When you also take into account all the costs of running 2 companies it just .. ugh. I hope you understand.
      * Mostly an impression that I have compared to my hometown of Burgas and the city of Utrecht, Netherlands.

    For bilingual people in Ottawa, does it change salary they get more than unilingue?

    • @nickpolegatoRE
      @nickpolegatoRE  Рік тому +1

      I can't speak to that as I am not a recruiter, but in my experience, being bilingual makes it easier to get hired than being unilingual. If you speak English and French, there are more opportunities, especially in the government sector.

      Hey! No you can not. The school zones are designated based on where you live. If you want your kids to go to school in Ontario, you’d have to live in Ontario. With that said, there are great French immersion schools in Ottawa. That’s how I learned French :)

    • @MR-DURO
      @MR-DURO 10 місяців тому

      @@nickpolegatoRE yes and the zoning is very confusing, we've asked to change our kid school a few times in past 5 years because we are living close to TWO zones. The school communication and organisation are not the greatest

    if i bought house in Gatineau and live there, Can i do work in Ottawa and can my kid get school admission in ottawa ? can we get medical healthcare in ottawa ?

    • @nickpolegatoRE
      @nickpolegatoRE  Рік тому +4

      Great Question! No. You only get services in the province you are residing in. You can work in Ottawa if you live in Gatineau, but you pay Quebec taxes and only have access to Quebec schools and healthcare.

    • @cdaxes2228
      @cdaxes2228 11 місяців тому

      @@nickpolegatoREot entirely correct. You can get medical care in ottawa but you must pay upfront and will be reinbursed for the quebec equivalent rate after filling out the quebec health system forms.
      Edit to add example:
      If a dr appointment is 80$ in ottawa but 50$ in quebec, you will only be reinbursed 50$.

      I live in Gatineau and we lost our Ottawa Doctor because clinics started to get rid of Quebec clients, I can only speak for myself and my experience, but assume not or less. Speciality such as Surgery for heart, ect are fine if you get refered by your doctor

    Transportation is awful. LRT is always broken since it opened years ago. The healthcare system is broken and terrible since COVID. Not enough houses to buy so the price is too high. Sorry man, you are not updated. Ottawa, Gatineau is not a good place to live anymore. I would like to see comment if I am negative or if I say the truth.

    • @nickpolegatoRE
      @nickpolegatoRE  9 місяців тому

      The LRT is a fragment of the transport system but yes, it has fallen off as the city gets poorer and poorer.
      All the other points you make are going on across the country. It is not unique to Ottawa or Gatineau.
      To say I am not updated is arrogant at best.
      Ottawa still has a strong job market where you can earn top dollar. Homes are cheaper relative to household income than any other major city in Canada. Ontario healthcare system still ranks first or second in the country. And provincial taxes remain one of the lowest in the country.
      Where do you suggest people should go for equivalent job security and pay? Toronto? Vancouver?
