The character of yoshimitsu is really parallel to Batman. I think because he is difficult to learn people find minimal success, I think advanced players can use him to his fullest potential.
Unless you are a pro level player, you can make any character great. There's too much talk over tierlists. If you are great with a weaker character or a supposedly weaker character, that only makes you a better player.
Ye, He my favorite too by far. Styin Mad in my White Suit. But winratio rather Low, Just Started the Game and the learning curve is quite hard, thats why Im Here xD
22:44 a little trick I learned from Tekken 5: When you hit the wall with that move, you can Indian Stance while being dazed (down + 3+ 4) which makes you disappear quickly after being stunned in a cloud of smoke and you reappear in the indian stance. Ruins most of your opponent's punishes they thought they would get.
Yeah that’s a decent option, but if you don’t know what you’re doing with Indian Stance you can still fuck yourself up. I usually try to go for the teleport, sweep, or overhead options, I think being that close to the wall can put you in risk of wall-splatting yourself off the Shark Attack, unless I’m remembering incorrectly.

Thank you, playing Tekken 7 for 3 days now and that was a big help ! Specially the Punishment is a big issue at my side, with these two simple moves, I could improve my gaming
I like about Yoshimitsu that you can make mistakes in the execution of 10 combos and still be able to continue them. Just different. It is not necessarily canceled.
To be honest I kind of prefer long guides because I feel if it's that long then you covered everything about the character we need to know. Idk if you like making them and I don't blame you but that's just my two cents
as a punish, they cannot crouch unless the move recovers crouching, Wich you will know about. the transfer to kin (2,2,1+2) is where this shines as a punish tool. 1,1 is plus 5 as well whoever said it is +1.(it also forces crouch) they are both very useful however I would never use 1,2 as suggested in the video as it is -3 on hit and has only they 1,2,1 follow up. NSS 121 is pretty good tho since it is true combo but 2,1 is better for dmg + knd on 10f
just remembered 2 D3 us also a tc that recovers full crouch at -1 Wich makes some mixup possible since most characters can only crouch jab to take advantage. and crouch jab can be hopkicked/lowparried they have to take your mixup or risk full combo.
There's something you forgot to mention about the Rage Art. The lower your health when your Rage Art hits, the more damage it does. This is true for raw Rage Arts as well as ending combos with it. Just a heads up.
Awesome guide, Underdawg. I've been playing Yoshimitsu since my father let me play Tekken 5 with him in 2005 (I was 4). He was my favorite fighting game character for the longest time, but since he's a side character, I had to drop his top spot for Kuai Liang once I started getting into Mortal Kombat.
one thing you should mention on b+2, 1 is that it's a mixup against b+2,2 because you can duck under the second hit. once you condition them to duck the second hit, you mix up with b+2,1 because it's a mid and get crazy damage. edit: note that you can only duck under the second hit of b+2,2 if you block the first hit.
Thanks for the guide. I was tired when I watched it, had to pause and rewind a few times to remember what buttons you were saying. Would have been easier to follow if you put the move on screen in type (both the in game command input and an overlay of the move you're talking about) and spoke slower and more deliberately. Some sort of script to follow so you're not improvising as you go. Appreciate it none the less as I haven't played any fighting games and the story mode is getting the best of me :P
As a complete and total newbie to the world of Tekken, could you do some sort of guide that's like... well: Tekken for Dummies? I'm a total noob, to be honest, and since Tekken 7 has no sort of New Player tutorial and many characters have 80+ moves, I'd just want a quick (or long, I know it's a complicated game, so as long as it needs to be) video that extols what I should be prioritizing: be it Juggles, Bounces, Long combos, Short combos, Defense, Movement... I mean, all that stuff is important to all fighting games, but I've only ever played 2D fighters like Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter and Guilty Gear, and I don't know where to start in order to become competent (IE: Not a total Scrub) in this game. It's just so foreign to me.
In my short experience in Tekken, I'd say that it's always a good idea to test every information you recieve, in the lab (as in every game really). If you play SFV, then the training mode should not be so overwhelming, it's pretty much the same. Also use a notebook for games. It's really common for these type of games to have a huge amount of mechanics, and having a quick source to look at is always helpful. As a final advice. Try to explore the movelist one move at a time. It may take some days to get used to a character, but by the end of it, you will have a wider gameplan than by just following a guide. Guides are great help, but they are not everything.
I really appreciate this guide. I wish everyone would be so detailed in describing how characters work. Most don't bother and just assume you're a master of the game already. I'd appreciate some of your thoughts on the uses of the various stances. His teleports especially seem to have a specific use that's difficult to not be punished on.
So numbers in fighting fighting games refer to the button layout or in Tekken the arms and legs. So for example if u were on a ps4: 1= square (left arm) 2=triangle (right arm) 3= x (left leg) 4 = circle (right leg) And + means to press both buttons at the same time so for ex: 1+2 = pressing square and triangle at the same time
I actually use Yoshi as my main. Though it's actually very fucking tricky. Though still awesome awesome character even though I'm not as good as others.
After a db+3,3...I go d+3+4/Indian stance or do a b+1,1.. to db+3,3 then Indian stance or to a db+1+2,1+2 if they are anticipating the ws+4 - this is unsafe if my opponent catches wind what I am doing so I use it sparingly just to mix things up. From the Indian stance, you can do a couple of things to keep the guessing game going. Just be mindful of your spacing. With b+2,2, I mix it up with b+2 then 1+2, b+1+2 which is unblockable. There's a short windup with the animation but most of the time it catches them just don't over do it as they can duck under it or just step out of the range of the unblockable.
Haha you are awesome, not overly serious like some Tekken veterans and just having fun :D I sat for hours with my new fight stick trying these moves out :D Yoshimitsu seems like a deep character to master but I wont give up simply because he just looks so cool
Can you do a Season 3 update and tutorial for him? I love your work so much bro! I learned so much from this and the season 2 update video too. Stay awesome!
It's very informative to hear about pokes and frame data and stuff like that, but I'm 12 minutes in and you haven't even mentioned any of his stances or how to use them, which I feel is the most important part about playing Yoshimitsu.
ima newb to tekken , being playing for years but only arcade or on PSP DR but solo mode , tbh in the noob lvl matchups im in , its really funny to play with the 10hit combo , death stab and trolling with flea, works great and people get panic attacks , not to mention the laughs you get
Hell yeah, happy to see you covering my boy Yoshimitsu, I really want to learn this character as in depth as I can and these 'free-form' guides are always very much appreciated, thank you :D
I don't know if you're still playing Yoshimitsu, but wr1,2 offers a ton of damage on combos. wr1,2 -> 2, 2, 4 (Spin) -> f3+4, 2 That's 71 damage, for instance. There's more possibilities.
Can you please explain me why yoshimitsu is (pretty much everywhere) marked as a hard to learn character. His combos seem pretty easy. The only thing i see because he is marked as a hard to learn character is because he has that much stances. But is that really all?
Hellkite cause alot of his moves are unsafe, they are fun to do tho, most of yoshi playstyle is making the opponent guess, and worst part of yoshi here is alot of his juggles arent damaging and hard to execute unless it already muscle memory for you, but that how i see it, you can watch kari and knee for a safer playstyle or watch eyemusician and shouchan for that crazy guessing playstyle.
UF1 isn't a special mid, thats just yoshimitsu's hit effect. A GREEN middle is a special mid. 2,3 scales horribly and can ruin the damage of combos. F3 is a way more damaging screw because it allows you to land 2 after the df1 and still connect the ender in its entirety. Dp motion 2 is better than d2,1 because of the same reasons f3 is better than 2,3. A good rule of thumb i've found is that if the second hit of a combo is the screw you can get df1>2>b2,1,1+2,f2. If the screw is the third hit, don't do the 2 after the df1. Overall however a great guide, though me being a fellow yoshimitsu main I felt the need to throw my 2 cents in the ring.
When you do more Tekken guides, Can you do Jin, Hworang, Master Raven, Dragunov, Josie and Steve combos for future reference cause I need to learn enough about them?
this is my first Tekken game every, when I fist fought him online I yelled out loud "WHAT THE FUCK!?!" Also with his healing move I thought the guy was just taunting lol
I use to play takken without knowing anything when i was like 10 year old now i just started playing with my friends occasionally at game centre we play on ps4 and m bit confuse coz i just randomly press everything coz idk anything and here m also confuse whats 1 2 3 up down ?? Lol
1, 2, 3, and 4 are your buttons in the game. Each button represents a limb on your character. 1 (Square for PS, X for Xbox) is left hand punch, 2 (Triangle, Y) is right hand punch, 3 is left leg (X, A), 4 is right leg (circle, B)
Superb guide man! It's the one of the only guides in the internet in which I've needed to have my notebook and take note of everything. Not a wasted piece of information. Also... Do the stance guitde pweease c:
Are there any videos on UA-cam that explain how to do these moves with the d-pad? Can you make videos on fighting games and teaches how to use the d-pad instead of the analog sticks? No matter how much I try these moves are so much more harder to use whenever you're a player that uses the d-pad
-10 isn't safe bro. anything -9 or less is safe. -10 is jab punishable which can be risky as it gives your opponent monentum or you can end up on the ground against some characters (Mishima 1,1,2, Gigas' 1,2, Jin's 2,4... etc)
I've depend my youth in arcades playing one of the first Tekken games. Yoshimitsu has always been my favorite. I'm debating on buying Tekken seven, I'm not sure. Since , in my opinion his best iteration was in 5. In six they changed some moves, I had to get used to those. Took me a while. Would you recommend it? Since I don't care for online, I prefer couch co op do fighters.
Then I don't recommend it. Fighting games today focus on online. Unless you know alot of people personally online who will come over and play with you you'll eventually get bored and drop the combat. Sorry man but if your into fighting games you kinda have to get into online.
thank u dude! Even for a french dude (me) i'm able to understand the essential. got a question here (ps4 controller): F + X(3) then X(3) again, is it too risky?
Is B+1 worth mentioning? It goes into the low-sweep chain and recovers fast enough for Yoshi to throw a grab out, go for a launcher-read or just keep throwing out other pokes.
Also you can use F*D>DF+1 (Gehosha) as a launcher at range. It’s not the best option, but at max range you can minimize the damage taken on punish, and the range is notable. Plus (same as B2>1) if you input 1+2 you get a stance option.
I love yoshimitsu, everyone tell me to change saying he is a bad character but no, i am never gonna change, lol
Go Mr
I relate to you personally buddy keep it up i mean thats how lil majin got really good with king

he's talking about the stun from running into the wall.
too many unsafe moves compared to tournament-ready characters
Yeah that’s a decent option, but if you don’t know what you’re doing with Indian Stance you can still fuck yourself up. I think 2, down 3 is a really good 10f punish because the full crouch mixup it leaves you in is so good for Yoshimitsu.
i personally DON'T recommend 2,2 as a punish, since a ducking enemy can launch you as a punish.
but i'm with ya 100% Yoshi is best waifu
Adi Yair yoshi has been my main since Tekken 3.
Adi Yair and I also agree with what you say.
but u can go into kincho stance now and its +5 where 1,1 is +1~0 so its sometyms better unless u r going for kill then use 1,1

Down Forward 1 Can lead into a kick or high with a followup of 2/4, Down forward 1+2 is also a good wall splat and a bound

So numbers in fighting fighting games refer to the button layout or in Tekken the arms and legs.

-10 isn't safe bro. anything -9 or less is safe. -10 is jab punishable which can be risky as it gives your opponent monentum or you can end up on the ground against some characters (Mishima 1,1,2, Gigas' 1,2, Jin's 2,4... etc)
can you do Feng Wei?
I like this character
I've depend my youth in arcades playing one of the first Tekken games. Yoshimitsu has always been my favorite. I'm debating on buying Tekken seven, I'm not sure. Since , in my opinion his best iteration was in 5. In six they changed some moves, I had to get used to those. Took me a while. Would you recommend it? Since I don't care for online, I prefer couch co op do fighters.
Then I don't recommend it. Fighting games today focus on online. Unless you know alot of people personally online who will come over and play with you you'll eventually get bored and drop the combat.
Sorry man but if your into fighting games you kinda have to get into online.
give us guide on Kazuya please
AotearoaTekkenDooD check out themainmanswe's kazuya guide, its older but still very relevant
I think i saw that over 2 years ago. Iv seen all his Guides bro there amazing
I just want to see UnderDawg have a crack at it
But thank you also
Does that mean 10 hit combos are not as powerful anymore? Since you mentioned the scaling
OMG you should do All you need to know vidos like like this more often. For Injustice 2
Got CC on so I don't disturb coworkers. CC screws up a lot of words but somehow gets Yoshimistu correct? 😂
thank u dude! Even for a french dude (me) i'm able to understand the essential.
got a question here (ps4 controller): F + X(3) then X(3) again, is it too risky?
AubergInn they can block the low
It's not really worth it anyways because you can't combo off of the sweep
Does Underdog gaming come with Underdog training to help scrubs like me personally
For the down forward one I keep getting the moonsault
Is B+1 worth mentioning? It goes into the low-sweep chain and recovers fast enough for Yoshi to throw a grab out, go for a launcher-read or just keep throwing out other pokes.
Also you can use F*D>DF+1 (Gehosha) as a launcher at range. It’s not the best option, but at max range you can minimize the damage taken on punish, and the range is notable. Plus (same as B2>1) if you input 1+2 you get a stance option.
very usefull guide
Can you make a Master Rave guide?
