Great Job for the Ford Performance and Chip Genassi Team. Build a car from scratch and on the first try win Le Mans 50 years later it´s a hell of a job. Congrats
Well actually.... Ford starting racing in Le Mans in 1963, but their cars ended up breaking down in '63, '64, and '65. Then in '66, Carroll Shelby was brought in and he changed the GT40 with aero, engine, suspension, etc. upgrades and they flew in for the 1, 2, 3 podium finish in 1966. Never give up.
Looking at this Doc and all the videos about its win in Lemans it makes me think how hard would have been to built this and make sure it succeed on this extremely hard race. Ford still the only US company who can built cars to race on nearly all type of races.
IMO The new gen GT-40 Is the most Beautiful design of anything ever build by humanity. I would have never guessed I would want a V6 in anything and then the videos started showing up on UA-cam. Then I saw the numbers. Then I said YES PLEASE. Then I drove away in a new F-150 3.5 EcoBoost.
The 1,2,3 Shelby Ford GT 40 7 litre/427 ci engine finish at LeMans in 1966 was the Greatest American Racing victory in history in my opinion! I guess when Enzo Ferrari asked Henry Ford is he could buy Ford really pissed Ford off and the next thing you know he enters racing, hires Shelby, and does this to Ferrari (Who nobody could beat for many yrs at LeMans!) in 1966! So thrilled to see Ford Racing get back into serious racing w/ their new Ford GT run by The Chip Ganassi Racing Team! Man it's a beauty of a car too ey! That V6 EcoBoost powerplant is so highly engineered it's unreal! Go Ford!
What was even worse, was that between Ford and then Porsche, they drove Ferrari away from prototype sports car racing forever. Ferrari simply didn't have the funds to race in F1 and endurance at the same time. And they still don't. Without the extra F1 'Ferrari money', Ferrari couldn't compete in any type of racing anymore. And even with that extra stipend that the FIA gives Ferrari, Mercedes, Renault and Red Bull have been handing Ferrari their hat now for 12 years, with no end in sight.
Audi’s budget for LMP1 was 500 million M Then Porsche got involved with a similar cost VW owns both and could see spending that amount of $$$ for both teams Now it’s only Porsche
"I guess when Enzo Ferrari asked Henry Ford is he could buy Ford really pissed Ford off and the next thing you know he enters racing, hires Shelby, and does this to Ferrari (Who nobody could beat for many yrs at LeMans!) in 1966! " Do they speak English in what?
The GT is something super special. Not only does it have a great heritage, it's not simply an homage to that, but now it has it's own Le Mans winning legacy of it's own. I can appreciate a Porsche or Ferrari, but I'll still probably react a bit more to a GT in person.
The real true beauty of this car, is that if no one told you what it was. You would know it was a Ford GT. It was new and it was bold and it was the latest version of a legion.
@Google Sucks Well, V6 is doing fine, yes, it is a lighter version of a classic V6 but imagine if Mercedes AMG put a V6 engine in its newest and latest car? Faithful fans would commit suicides.
Nothing more than other great drivers of the same period would do. Dan Gurney, Phil Hill, Bruce McLaren, Sterling Moss, A.J. Foyt, Mario Andretti, Jackie Stewart, Denny Hulme, John Surtees, Jack Brabham, Graham Hill, Jim Clark - Ken Miles was good but not better than anyone else on that list.
Before I die, I want to drive this car. Ford has heart, energy, art and talent (heat) wrapped up in the GT’s DNA. So many times I have shared the same asphalt but missed the timing or opportunity. I have lapped Calabogie in my ‘06 MX5 where the GT was track tested, lapped Canadian Tire Motorsport Park in my 2010 Shelby GT500 where the GTs raced in the ALMS, visited Polito Ford where the GT is cared for and driven Ford cars since my first, a ‘64 Fairlane to my latest, a 2021 Mustang Mach E Premium 4X. Perhaps, just perhaps that moment in time is coming.
