I get lost listening to these true American tales, the narration is so authentic. As I sit here and listen and take in the images, I am reminded of how much I love my country and all of my brother and sister citizens. I thank the Lord for all of our blessings. Thank you so much for these posts. I never knew my grandfathers but imagine if I had, they'd have told me stories like these God bless
Thank you !! I am a fourth generation Oliver . My grandmother was an author who wrote several books on Cades Cove . I was married in the Primitive Baptist Church in 1995 . Im so honored to know where my roots are . ❤️

Now I'm giving away my age lol I was the first grandchild to her and I was lucky enough to have her up until my late 40s . She passed away in 2017 . I hope you can find the book , I've been sick these last few years so I've not been up there since 2020 .
As you know James McCauley 1812-1882 was the first generation to reside in Cades Cove. I am a 5th generation direct descendant of him. Donnie, thank you for your passion with the past. JS McCauley
This is the real history about people who built their lives and faded away. Their own mini universe. It's a good thing you are doing by telling their story.
Anytime I see an old cemetery or church I’m drawn to it. It’s like I can feel the lives of those who passed. All the struggles, and happy times. Thank you for showing this 🙏
Me as well. I look at each headstone and wonder about the person buried there- their life, their stories, how they died. I get overwhelmed because I want to know but never will
Hey fellows Thank you I’m from Indiana and I’ve been there once when my husband was living .It was beautiful, I always wanted to live up there or at least come back for a visit before I’m to old. I’m 63 now. It really makes me long for my own little homestead and spend my time making a garden and fishing and jus enjoying what the good lord gave us.I wanna get back up there so bad I can almost taste the mountain spring water and breathe that fresh mountain air.Thank you so much for sharing.God bless you both.
Cades Cove is beautiful. I loved hearing you say “wonder how many souls were saved in that old church?” Did my heart good. Bless you and thanks for the beautiful video.
Can't beat the little stories from our history. Very important and very interesting. They should be preserved and passed on to our childrens children........on and on. Thanks
My family came from the Cove and some from down in Chestnut Flats. I have a lot of my people buried at the Primitive Baptist Church. I was privileged to preach there once.
I wonder if we might be related. My grandmother was a Russell. She is buried in the Tuckaleechee Primitive Baptist Church Cemetary. Coker Hill I believe. Her mother was a Hembree.
@@daniellebranley8561 I know of some Russells and Hembrees from the area. As far as I know, there is no connection between them and my family. That does not mean there isn't on. After several generations in such an isolated area, most families were connected in one way or another.
My family, the Tiptons, was in the cove as well. They are also buried in the Primitive Baptist cemetery. My paternal grandfather was a Baptist preacher.I was 2 when he passed and still remember him.I’m 65 now.
I truly enjoyed your video on the little known history of Cades Cove. My husband & I have been to Cades Cove 3 times and have never heard these stories. Thank you so much for sharing!! God bless!
Most beautiful peaceful place this side of Heaven. Last visit October 2019. Dan passed January 4th, 2020. That Baptist Church was his favorite. Seeing it here sure has me in tears. We had wonderful times here. Many memories. Such a peaceful place. Perhaps before the Lord calls me home, I'll get one more visit in. Sure appreciate your stories Donnie. 🙏 God Bless 🙌
We love cafes Cove. First time we were there was 1976 while driving through the Appalachia mountains. It was spring time and there were daffodils blooming everywhere. It was gorgeous. Been there several times since. Thank you for this video. Such very interesting history.
I live in Tennessee, around Nashville. However I did live around Gatlinburg for a short period of my life. I fell in love with the mountains and Cades Cove is still one of my favorite places. It is a gorgeous place and so peaceful. Thank you for this video.
Thank you so much for this. My mother came from a little town in central New York State, Wayland. As a little girl, I sat with her and my Aunt Mary, while they drank coffee, smoked cigarettes and told stores just like these. I wish I'd had the writing skills to write down the stories, but I was too little. I believe that we Americans are losing out history. Thank you for adding Cades Cove to our knowledge.
My great grandma, grandma, and my great grandma's siblings (when they would come up from the hills) did the same thing. With your family, did they sit around the kitchen table (and the porch if it was nice outside)? I was raised up listening to stories like these from my grandma and her family and my grandpa who was always telling stories like these about the holler he grew up in. The way Donnie talks, the way he tells his stories, reminds me so much of my incredible grandpa and I always listen to his stories on here when I really miss my pawpaw. This channel brings me comfort. 😊 Don't you wish we would have had cell phones growing up to record our families telling their stories? I regret never recording grandpa that last year of his life especially. These stories should go on. And no one tells them quite like the older people who came from the hills.

Hi Mr Donnie I woke up at 2am got my phone to see the time. So here I set watching this wonderful video. Aren't we so blessed to be born into the best place and ancestors. God Bless, you take care.
Thank you love your videos.... Cades Cove is my favorite place, we go almost every year sometimes twice, (Floridians) anywho when we visit I walk around and try to imagine life in the Cove, what beautiful peaceful place it was. I love the fact that it was a village, a place where people came together not trying to keep up with others, a true community. Thank you, your videos are my new binge watching as I am not into these other drama show/videos.
Boy I really liked that old Church A lot, a lot of Sundays worshiping God and a many sermons many sunrise services, Easters, Funerals weddings Christmas plays dedications baptisms and like you said souls saved , and that's just one little Church in one little tiny place in the whole world and only a couple of hundred years old or so not to mention the rest of the world and all the centuries gone by, when that last trumpet blows sure is gonna be a lot of us coming up out of that ground and going up, ain't they? lol
I can imagine, and certainly hope, that in heaven these people who have long ago departed, are still reminiscing of the history that we will never know about……this side of heaven. ☺️ Thank you for doing this video.
Thank you so much for putting this amazing storytelling video together! I love the stories of Appalachia in that area. My daddy's (who died 2 yrs ago at 93) family grew up in the park b4 it became a park, up around Pittman Center. And my mom, still alive & well at 90, grew up on Wears Valley Rd. Her Papa & Granny Wear owned the 100 acres that went up the mountain, which is now Wear Farm City Park. I'm 51. When I was a little girl, we used to walk from my Granny & Papa McCall's house, down Wears Valley Rd (which was almost all farmland then), to Granny & Pappa Wear's old homeplace & I would swing on their porch swing. I've been sad over the past 20 years to see so much of it torn down & "touristicized". But my Uncle Ronnie & Aunt Sue's old rustic cabin is right in the center of the entrance of one of the newer resorts on Wears Valley. And one of my cousins still lives in it. Also, my 5th Great Grandpa Samuel Wear was one of the early settlers in that area. He signed the Tennessee Constitution. Anyway, I love all the history of our area. Thank you for this information & I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Its not until you get older that looking back can be as much fun as looking forward. You wonder how did others spend their time here, as you have done. Personally I love all these little anecdotes. The tree story was a perfect example.
My husband and I and another couple visited this church a few years ago. When we got out of our vehicle, we heard the most beautiful harmonizing coming out of this old church. It was a mother, her son and daughter singing a cappella, ‘Angel Band’ 🥰🥰🥰🥰 It was a beautiful moment!!!
Donnie, thank you for this video. Cades Cove holds some very special memories for my family. In about 1986 we took my Mom and Dad to Cades Cove on their 45-wedding anniversary. We parked on loop road at one of the small parking places and walked into the field and sat around under a big oak tree and listened to Mom and Dad tell about their wedding. Mom was 16 years old, so they went from Tennessee to Spartanburg and got married. They shared 57 years together till Dad passed away. By the way, he was a Baptist preacher, Horace Higgins. Their wedding anniversary was on Nov. the 1st.
I enjoyed that story about your parents, sorry your dad passed.......I love cades cove so much, have not been in years...amazing all the memories there....
How wonderful our country salvaged all these wonderful parks for everyone to visit/see currently. I’ve visite Cades Cove many times and walked the loop, bought meal from the grist meal. ( Gov stopped the selling of corn meal due to health regulations.) The saddest thing to me while visiting the old church cemeteries, was all the tiny graves of all the children who died during pandemics, child birth etc. We had a spring house on our farm in Va where mom kept milk, butter , perishables etc., to keep everything cold. This was before we had electricity, cold box etc. Thank you for these wonderful stories.❤
I love stories like these. Our ancestors found a good and quiet place to live, raise their families and made a living out of the forest and the ground they tilled for the vegetable garden.Times like these makes a man wonder if he was born to late and in the wrong centuryan has an allotted Tim to be born to grow raise a family amd then go Home to be with tje Lord.It is a sad thing that the National Park Services had to take it.Another good video,Donnie.I can't wait to see the next one. Thanks for the stories as well, brother.

My granny was a member of Creech's Premative Baptist Church in Johnston County, NC. I went with her many times. It looked VERY similar to this one. But when I was born in the 50s they had more modern pews. It's still in use today. Thanks again Mr. Donnie and Mr. John. So many wondrous things y'all shared. And it's so beautiful there. My husband and I were there last November. Been countless times.
Ole friend I lived there in The Forge & use to hike with Mike Maples, but you & your friend opened my eyes to a few things I didn't know! Thank both of you for your time and dedication....ATB
Thank you for sharing this. We love to visit Cades Cove every year. One of the most wonderful places on earth as far as I'm concerned. Just rich in history of hard working mountain people. God Bless Friend! Justin
Hey Donnie, I've written several times in the comment section. I was raised in South Western part of Virginia. And for the past 35 years I've lived in the Western part of North Carolina. But most of my raisen and running around in East Tennessee. You teach me so much. Thanks, David
I felt a kinship in my heart with this hauntingly beautiful Cove, the 1st time we went through it..each church, cabin, barn, cemetery, and pasture holds their own unique and spiritual historical journey within the walls and fence lines....I have thoroughly enjoyed your video and description...THANK YOU
Thank you!!! Donnie.. For another great HISTORY VIDEO.. alot of people don't really appreciate HISTORY like they should.. Me being one of them when I was way younger But I mush rather hear about HISTORY as anything now that I've got older
I really enjoyed this video. Growing up my family vacationed in the Smokies every year and I've been many times since. I learned t about things in Cades Cove that I never knew were there.
This one made me cry, missing my family, I know one day will be reunited. The old Church and grave yards, trees, cave and spring, thank you & John for this video.
Enjoyed the stories and beautiful scenery. Those early settlers worked hard to provide for their families. They experienced much heartache also over the loss of their young children. Diphtheria took the life of many children in the early 1900's.
Thank you so much Mr. Donnie I really enjoyed the video and all of your videos, they are very informative. We love visiting the cove from time to time. Thanks again from North Florida . God bless
Such a wonderful place and so much history that needs to be told and passed down before its forgotten, Thanks Donnie for passing this on to others 👍👍 looking forward to the next episode
Donnie, I truly enjoy your videos. I love just sitting back and letting you transport us back in time to see how our ancestors lived. I got alittle emotional at the Boring cemetery. Just knowing precious children are laying there awaiting the first ressurection of Jesus. You have a true, humble Christian spirit that the whole world needs.

Enjoyed the stories and beautiful scenery. Those early settlers worked hard to provide for their families. They experienced much heartache also over the loss of their young children. Diphtheria took the life of many children in the early 1900's.

Thank you friend. God bless you.
