Big difference between the old Mac 12's that were matured in sherry casks they previously held sherry for decades; as opposed to these new Macs with "sherry seasoned" casks that held sherry for a fraction of that time. Wood definitely plays a bigger role than age.
Agree, the 12 year Is one of the bottles I always have in my bar, It doesn't disapoint, i've had others but , always come Back to the 12. Great video Guys, thanks a lot Scott, thanks a lot Solo shirt Bart!
Good evening, thank you for another great review. I have to agree with Bart, drinking Tamdhu 15, which I always recommend to anyone as a big alternative to that particular brand and it's way better than what that particular brand offers 15-year-old or even 18-year-old som my argue, and I got it for $105. When that brand is good, it is good. And if you try independent butler's it's magnificent. But the core range smells great. Does not deliver.
This 15 goes for about $300. That bottle of the 12 is the copper box version and is great. Unfortunately the new version (black box 12) isn’t nearly as good
Hi Scott and bart Always love your reviews, but let me give you some advice, don't buy the Macallan 15year old triple cask, its really bad whiskey, and I really love Macallan whiskey, I had 2 bottles, drank one, and have one bottle left, but I'm going to sell the other one to some sucker that likes Macallan whiskey !!!
I’ve said for years that Macallan sales will crash due to their outrageous pricing but they keep increasing the prices and they keep selling, so I must be wrong. I, and most of my whisky club friends, have moved on to better/cheaper alternatives from Glenallachie and Glendronach.
I agree that it's only a matter of time. Too many enthusiasts out there now and with inflation now a days, we are more picky on what we buy. I think more and more people are just not buying McAllen like they used to. There are always the newbies that will buy and collectors/ flippers, but there are so much more good quality bottles at reasonable prices considering.
@@ScotchTestDummies That is fair. I am just getting tired sometimes when brands like Springbank getting praised to heaven, but when you check the prices (at least here in Nederland) it is so expansive, like a 15 year old, close to 200 Euro.
Sounds like a typical color added chilled filter overpriced McAllen. Just ehh ok. If they just went to an integrity higher proof, average price, then it might be worth trying. Just buying the name. It's too bad for them
This Macallan is horrible and a waste of your time! This should absolutely be disposed of properly at my home bar. Don't worry boys, I've got your back. - Jean

thanks Luis!
I'm done with Macallan and have been for years. It never delivers on the palate and the pricing is outrageous.
and the price keeps going up...

that was a maroon box 12. That $300 is higher than I expected. Definitely not worth that!
I am on a cruise ship and they have it for 170 USD.
Wow

Hi sir what is different between 12 and 15 year old macallan thanks 🙏 thanks
Hi Scott and bart

haha, point taken!

I think their market is the money people that aren't whisky experts and buy only based on brand.
Scott, I think you gave it a higher mark because the carton is DRDF-colored. You’ve been conditioned. 😉
do love the DRDF!
Good sipper? I bet this bottle is expansive as fuck. I wish whisky reviewers take the price as a point, when it comes to a review.
we do factor in price when we have it. Since this was a gift, we didn't know the price.

I want!
👍
Interesting, I find most Macs to have a better nose than what the palate delivers …
thanks One Glass!

could be chill filtered but I'm pretty sure Macallan doesn't add color...
