  • Time and time again I am told by well-meaning peers to slow down, to take it easier. I find their counsel unproductive and counter intuitive considering that I am always in better health and fitness in spite of my condition: ankylosing spondylitis. I believe in continuing to be productive by serving others. In my opinion, if we have worked hard at our jobs as adults planning for a paradaisical reward free of worries and cares, we have set ourselves up for disappointment. That glorious, care-free life in retirement is a myth, the flip side of the myth that fitness is reserved for the young.
