If you already have an auto-dimming-compass-mirror, forget that removing the map lens stuff.
You already have the new type harness installed. Just unplug the old one and plug in the new one using the old harness that is identical. You're done except for calibration, setting the zone, and programming your opener to homelink. See your owner's manual for programming buttons, the zone map, and calibration by driving in a circle. Super easy upgrade on a 2017 Legacy.

The used mirror that I bought came without a harness. Do you know if they are easy to find?
Edit: Found one at Bob's Automotive Mirrors on ebay. Looks like my garage is incompatible with the homelink system, but the compass and autodimming functions both work perfectly. Thank you for the concise and easy to follow video

Looks like you didn't seat the mirror fully on the mount, or the mount was wrong for that mirror.

I have a new 2017 Legacy. I like this car very much however I am not impressed with the auto dim rear view mirror. Most of the time I find the light much too bight shining from this mirror. Technology is great but the old school flip rear view mirrors were easier in my eyes. If I were you i would not upgrade as these mirrors don't protect your near as well as the older manual rear view mirrors.

Hi, I would like to know... how did you know that your vehicle had the connection to the autodimming? I'm trying to figure outbif mine does.

+Gil Camareno I think all Subarus for the past 10-15 years have the connector for the mirror. This particular mirror (part number in the description) is sold specifically for this vehicle. If you have a Subaru go to parts.subaru.com and search for "Auto-Dimming Mirror Compass w/Homelink" to find the correct part by year and model. Some Subarus require a mounting adapter as well, so if you see that in the search results, you'll need it.

I wonder if these will work on a new 2017 Legacy base model?

Hey Steve or anybody else for that matter. I have a 2016 Legacy and there's no access to the wire from the light fixture. I just took the light and Onstar speaker off to find that I had no access to anything. Do you know how to install the homelink mirror?

These auto dimming rear view mirrors do not work nearly as well as the old manual flip style rear view mirrors.
