    The bird on the embroidery scissors is a stork. Traditionally, midwives and other birthing assistants would have knitting or embroidery with them to keep their hands busy while a mother was laboring. Their sewing kit was usually thrown in with their birthing kit, which included stork-shaped clamps. Best I can tell, stork scissors were kitschy merchandise geared toward midwives and they eventually became mainstream

      That’s a great explanation! Midwives delivered all four of my babies (which is unusual in the US), but none of them knitted or crocheted or did needlework. What a lovely gift that would make for a midwife ❤️

    I have been knitting for over forty years, and crocheting for about ten and I have NEVER seen the reusable produce bags nor the laundry bags used for WIPs or designating yarn for a project. That is PURE GENIUS! I have always saved the zip up plastic bags that bed linens come in, but after so many years and so many projects, they are tatty beyond belief. Thank you for this economical and brilliant idea!

    I have that last set, am actually doing slippers with the K as we speak. I'm really pleased with it. Great for the beginner who doesn't want to invest a lot of money, or someone like me who mostly works with thread and doesn't use a big hook very often.

    the flowery pouch thar you shown, I have bought maybe four or five of them over a two year period. To see if it was a mistake or a "bad batch", but all of them had the same issue. The rubber handle/grip, slides off. Like they'll start to come off ajd you have to push tjem back up but then it's not as comfortable. I think the max I was able to use one of the 5.5s was for one queen size blanket project before it was ready for the trash.

    Funny that you're mentioning not really having a need for the smaller hooks and needles. I wish more knitting sets came with smallers sizes! The Knitters Pride Karbonz Starter set is a great example. Comes with sizes US2.5-US6! That's my sweet spot for knitting. I wish there was a nickel plated set with these sizes too, but there isn't :(

    Forgot to mention that I bought my clovers one or maybe two at a time, and I use my coupons. I bought the black and gold tulips up from Amazon when it was on sale and got it for about 42 bucks. Then I bought a few of the pink tulips, including a small set of four that came in an adorable little pink pouch. They just happen to be all of the sizes that I use the most.

    Great video! I have a set of locking stitch markers that looks very similar to the locking stitch markers you showed in this video. Love the idea of using drawstring bags for projects, might have to get these. I also love my ergonomic crochet hooks - got a set from Amazon that come from a company called Bee Craftee I think. Haven't tried knitting or Tunisian crochet yet, I think Tunisian crochet might be next on my list of "crafty" things to learn.

    Hi all. I am trying to give a dollar store hack to the craft community. When you need hard plastic rings for a deco item, look for the compressed slinkie in the party favor section at the dollar store. Open them up gently and use scissors to cut a ring off but make it to resemble a key chain ring so there is no gap. There should be several in the package so for a dollar you can have alot. Have fun

  • @leatricewallace6223
    @leatricewallace6223 2 роки тому +2

    History lesson, the bird scissors are made that way because midwives used to use these to embroider or knit to cut their thread or yarn while waiting for the baby, then I think they used them to cut the cord…can’t remember, google it, anyway, it’s supposed to look like a stork.🙂

    I don't know if anyone has said it here, but a Walmart, you can get a set of Boye ergonomic hooks in a pink bag (all the handles are pink too). The sizes range from E-3.50mm to a K-6.50mm. The only issue I have is that Boye has changed their standard sizes (at least on these ergonomic hooks) and sizes I and J are smaller than most. Most I size hooks are 5.50mm and J size hooks are 6mm, these hooks are I-5.25mm and J-5.75mm. Other than that it's a great kit, with a place for yarn needles, a slot for scissors, and a pouch for other accessories( or in my case, extra hooks to cover the odd sized ones). This kit costs only $20, so is a great beginner set that won't break the bank. You can buy accessories like stitch markers and yarn needles separately, or buy a Boye I Taught Myself Crochet for $10 and has those and a starter set of hooks and a beginners guide.

      I own those hooks and I'll say they are very nice, and the ridge in the seam that she was talking about isn't present (I've bought several sets for myself and some friends and never had one with it). I prefer Clover Amours if I can get them, the hybrid hook head is easier for me to use, but the Boye pink ergonomic set is a really good deal and and good quality for the money. Especially, if you prefer tapered hooks (Boye hook head style).

    I like to crochet in my recliner and I am constantly dropping hooks and scissors and things down into the cracks of my chair, so I bought a pair or scissors with a little holder on a necklace on Amazon so I at least don’t have to worry about my scissors. The scissors are the most worrying thing to lose in the chair/floor because they are so sharp. 😂 But these are attached to me so I can’t lose them. Now I just need a necklace to hold my hook so I don’t set it in random places. 😂

      That’s so funny. I lost my favorite pair of scissors down the middle of my recliner couch recently. And I couldn’t find them ANYwhere. I turned that ding dang couch all the way over - they are my FAVORITE scissors. Then they just turned up on the floor one day. Maybe the cat got ahold of them? I should make a necklace for them (they aren’t pointy). What a great idea!
