  • After some brief technical difficulties we got back to tying Trout Streamers LIVE with our friend Russ Maddin. If you don't know Russ, you'll probably recognize his contributions to streamer fishing over the years with fly innovations, rod and line design, and of course presentations.
Tonight, Russ showed the versatility of brushes in fly tying, especially for those who need to fill their boxes in a hurry. He also hammered home the idea that maybe we all shouldn't be fishing the same flies.

Great content guys. You both helped me pick out a 6wt streamer/bass rod last fall. I live down in Grand Rapids, but when I'm up by you again I'll stop by for sure!

New to the channel. I really enjoyed your guys video and interactions. First time seeing Russ Madden as I had heard of him through Kelly Galloup’s channel. I look forward to more videos.

Really making me feel like a hipster with the bead chain streamer eyes. Kevin Feenstra really is a god send to us cheapo muskegon area fly anglers haha

What brand of eyes is Russ using? I can't find anything that looks that good on that first streamer he ties.

That’s a good looking fly. Even Russ looks like he wants to eat it

Watching this again and I guess I´m one of the dinosaurs because I could relate to fishing before the internet and I started thinking about having to take the film to the store to get the fishing pic about week later! And by then NOBODY CARED!

how often do you catch a 20 inch + fish? how often do you catch a 15 inch + fish?

Me months later answering my own question. I've caught 2 20 inch fish since May of 2022, and 1 15 incher almost every time I go fishing. Almost. so a couple a months because I suck at fishing ahah

When I watch Russ' videos, I think back to all the anal-retentive guys I've known in fly fishing over the years. He would absolutely drive them NUTS. It definitely would kill them to think of tying each fly a little different from the last so that none of the flies in his box are exactly alike. Thinking of flies in terms of general platforms rather than exact patterns would not be something they could accept, I'm sure.
