Been tying cable like that for years. I like to use Black tape or gorilla tape to tie the tail to the main line and forget about using a clamp. Thanks Jeff for sharing this, well worth it.
Hey, Jeff: I appreciate you showing people how this is done, as I said before, 40+ years with the Line Gang, for the Phone Company, you learn how to do this to support heavy cable your hanging on poles, nothing works better!!! Your an great teacher, and people can learn a lot from your videos!!!! Keep them coming, and you all stay safe and well!! God Bless!!!
My dad taught me that trick yrs ago. 👍 also said that when attaching cable clamps to use the correct size clamp for the cable and to never saddle a dead horse, meaning that the saddle side of the clamp should be on the live or tail/tag end of the cable.
That’s some ingenuity right there Jeff, always good to know some of these tricks. Definitely something worth passing along. That right there is something a grand dad passes on down. Would like to see more videos like these if you’ve got them. Keep’m coming god bless.
Fellow Patriots we need your help! I am retired USMC Mustang after 28 years..!!! This is my son account. He was a VOLUNTEER FIREMAN, AND VOLUNTEER EMS. He was always there to help others in their time of need! Its simple can you skip an extra cup of coffee a few times this week to help someone that would help you?? We have all said we will help fellow Patriots in their time of need and we all stand together!!!... Please help .. www.gofundme.com/f/help-cervical-spinal-problems
Your videos are always instructional and fun to watch, most of them I haven't thought about for years. All the old tricks and hacks that dad taught me as a kid. It's fun to jog my memory.
Good lesson Jeff. Been doing this for 40 years at a line stone quarry. I would rap the end with a light wire and send the end of the wire I used under a couple of wraps and pull tight. Sure do like your lessons and tips. Thanks for the video's.
If the one side of your loop won’t go through your loop and lay like the other side did/does you know you did it right. I have pulled loops apart but I may of been using to big of a tractor vs the cable. Use the clamps if your have them. My grandad taught me hot to do that 50+ years ago. You can do this with some types of rope as well. Keep up the great work Jeff and Hanna
Great job brotha !!! I use to use a ton of different types of rope when I use to climb trees for a living. The best thing I ever learned was how to splice rope !!!! Cable is often called “ wire rope” and you do people justice by teaching / sharing some of the old ways we use to do things!!! I worked on Tugs too in the Gulf outta Grand Isle Louisiana and that’s where I learned to do what you just shared . These training/ teaching videos you make are priceless when it comes to learning “ around the house” kinda knowledge ! Keep em com in’ my brotha !!!! If we put the how tos out there , then the kids can’t say we never tried to teach em nothing !!!! Preciate you too man !
Hey Jeff I worked for a can manufacturing plant and we had 1/2 inch coated cable Runway systems. We would do a 7-foot splice when we put in new cables and then we had to bake the coating back on them it's an interesting system to learn how to do it. Appreciate y'all.
Now that is a slick idea! Sure wish I had known how to do that back when I was in industrial maintenance. It would definitely have come in handy on more than one occasion. I like the deck extension idea too. I had an idea you'd figure out a way to add more room to that front pontoon shack deck.
That’s the same way we do our wire ropes underground in the coal mines we also put couple clamps on after we molly the ropes together. Wire ropes has caused lots deaths and injuries in the mining industry. Logan West Virginia coal country. Awesome videos sir and that little firecracker daughter of yours is one tuff young lady.
Hi Jeff, that was a great demo there, I always wondered how it was done, and now thanks to your video I feel confident to give it a go, preciate ya'll, keep, safe, best wishe's, Stuart.uk.
Absolutely awesome!!! I was stuck 4-wheeling one time so we needed the winch. The cable snapped and almost took our heads off (I suspect most guys don’t realize that when the cable breaks under tension, it wildly whips around). I tried several times to tie a knot in the cable but they just slipped. We had to wait hours for another off-roader to pull us out. This technique would have saved the day. I can’t help but think if that cable would have hurt one of us, knowing how to repair it using Jeff's technique could have saved a life. Thank you sir!
for anyone wondering why it whips around, say a cable breaks at 1000 lbs, then that 1000 lbs of force is still in the cable. That is also why you should never cut a wire or webbing sling while it is under load. The energy is still in there, and it can kill or seriously hurt you.
Great on cable but for you 411, I would double up on hinges. Overkill better than 3 in for whatever may get the lid in a bad bad bind, Just my 2cents. Keep videos coming Jeff, love them.
Putting a eye in a cable is a lot easier than doing it with rope. For me anyway. I been a sailor for 20 years and I learned a lot of knots. Well done ole boy
Heyya, Jeff, I enjoy your videos and want to thank you for making them. I am still puzzled on what's happening underwater when you guys noodle. Anyway to demonstrate what the fish and your hand is doing when it's underwater by using a clear container filled with water? Is the hole straight down or under a rock or log usually? Are you punching around or patting around the hole to find the fish? I am really baffled by what's happening down there. I wanted to explain it to my kids, but I couldn't.
Thanks for the cable eye trick!!! Hope the party goers don't try to turn the deck extension into a dance floor.... haha I don't think it'll hold the load! Good idea for preventing broken windows going down the road.
That's the ole Molly Hogan loop. Simple and effective. Used it on my Pop Up camper cables after trying to raise the camper without undoing the latches.
Thanks for all your knowledge knife sharpening and now this with the cable always enjoy watching you and Hannah. Keep it up looking forward to some hog trapping
I was hoping you would do that because it was absolutely no room up there in the front for you guys and now you got room. I can't wait to see you guys out on it and use it
I learned how to do that many years ago. I have fixed many cables in the same fashion many times. Try that technique on some 2 inch cable a few times and then you'll find out how strong this is. Those cable splinters can really tear your skin up so a good pair of leather gloves are a lot of help.
Cool Jeff, nice to learn a new trick, i never have really liked cable clamps, they can come loose , and sometimes can,t remove when need to repair cable. I will use this trick next time on cable.. Thanks! God Bless.
Keith Parr just a note on clamps coming loose to help them loosening up. Never saddle a dead horse-never put the base of the clamp that the u-bolt goes in on the cut side of the connection. As long as the u-bolt is on the “dead” side, i guarantee it will never slip. Braiding an eye is the best method, but if clamps is all you got, just remember to never saddle a dead horse
Support The Barrons! UA-cam cancelled the latest live video a few minutes ago. (Cooking Catfish on the Catfish Cabin) In my opinion it was bull . There are hundreds of catch clean and cook videos on UA-cam. Keep up the videos Barron' s. Whatever got the video cancelled your family still has my support. WorkHuntFishCookEat. God bless
That's a awesome trick there! But I was wondering about your tail(dead) end. If you know and can will you make a video on how to tie your tail end back into the cable to where there isn't a tail. IV seen ppl tie it in with the original cable and looks like there was just a loop made in the end of the cable or rope! Thanks preciate yall!! Stay safe
Glad i seen how you did it. I thought id have to braid it back like i do rope. But this way you dont too. You can stop at the loop. Thanks for sharing Jeff
Don't stop at the loop! Continue braiding with a tail, just like he shows otherwise the braid will unravel under a heavy load. I was taught to make the tail twice as long as the eye, but we were making eyes for heavy industrial purposes that moved tons of rock.
@@gar691 ok awesome. Great info. What i was asking about you see how the tail just hangs there? Like on rope you braid even the trail. You pass it threw the strands. But i see what you saying continue to twist it around. I was always curious how to do cable. Rope im ok at it. But not great. Lol again thanks for you reply.
Good stuff!!! Really like your use what ya got attitude as up here in NW Wisco the closest big box hardware store is 50 miles away. The greedy local hardware stores really stick it to ya up here.
What do you think of the star shaped head on the screws now? I've found out their good going in , a year or two later when you try to remove them they have a tendency to round off making them tough to take out if you need to!
Hey Jeff appreciate you brother 👊 that is a nice bush fix that looks to me like it would be stronger without tools that is some great hillbilly ingenuityit takes one to know I appreciate you
Thanks for the cable lesson Jeff I just learned something thinking about getting some of your furniture hopefully I can contact you and Hannah God bless
Be sure to add some support under the hinge side. If someone walks on it without support under that side it will stress the hinges and possibly pull the screws. I'd add a couple 2x4 that extend out a few inches in front of the existing pontoon deck for the new deck to rest on when down. Hope this helps!
I'm a country boy and spent my life learning the ability to make something out of nothing but have never seen this before.
It's greatly appreciated.

Oh my goodness I will of course
Mr. Jeff, you truly are a jack of all trades!
That the most useful thing I've learned all day. Best part is you did it without a marlin spike.
Hey Brother I used the cable idea you showed. Right on time man. Appreciate It!!
Thanks so much for these quick little bits of learning! Hope to see loads more.
Your videos are always instructional and fun to watch, most of them I haven't thought about for years. All the old tricks and hacks that dad taught me as a kid. It's fun to jog my memory.
Awesome! Been fixing stuff for 45 yrs and never saw that one. Thanks Jeff!!
Wow that is awesome!!! I will surely use that!! Never fail to share pure genius!! The simple things!! Thanks Mr. Barron!!
Good lesson Jeff. Been doing this for 40 years at a line stone quarry. I would rap the end with a light wire and send the end of the wire I used under a couple of wraps and pull tight. Sure do like your lessons and tips. Thanks for the video's.
Just getting ready to add cables to boat dock to secure it to shore for stability. This video is awesome and perfectly timed. Thanks Jeff!

Brilliant. I have never had that so well explained in my 57 years. Greetings from Queensland, Australia. Appreciate Y'all.
That's what you call ingenuity at its best right there. Great job Mr. Barron. Simple, easy to remember. 👍😉
As a coal miner from Australia I’ve actually done this underground, Jeff explained and showed how to do this very well.10/10👍
That’s the same way we do our wire ropes underground in the coal mines we also put couple clamps on after we molly the ropes together. That is a great method. I've worked with cable clamps for over 20 years and have always considered them sketchy. This looks a lot safer.
Good to see them saddles right on them clamps lol. Learned all of this at an early age growing up on shrimp boats!
yep never saddle a dead horse
True being a ex rigger thats the 1st thing you learn in iron works rigging on bridges.. never saddle a dead horse... could be life or death..

Wow. That's one of the best instructional video I've ever seen that's super useful.
Keep up the good work boss 👍
Another great video Jeff learn something new everytime I watch your videos
Excellent learning tip!👍 appreciate Y’all.
In spirit of learning.. you spelled preciate incorrectly. You're welcome.
balsawerkz yes I did!🤣👍😇

Pretty cool! I never liked cable claps anyway. I was always afraid the would slip off. Thanks Jeff!
Thanks for all your knowledge knife sharpening and now this with the cable always enjoy watching you and Hannah. Keep it up looking forward to some hog trapping
I have seen this used but had no idea how to do it. Thanks for the knowledge, always learning something new.
These are very interesting videos Jeff and really enjoy watching. Keep the good work up. Subbed you. Thanks Steve from England.
I was hoping you would do that because it was absolutely no room up there in the front for you guys and now you got room. I can't wait to see you guys out on it and use it
Thanks, Jeff! Very good tutorial! This is one of those things I knew when I was younger but hadn't needed for a while, so I forgot! Lol!
Thanks Jeff, I’ve never thought of tying a cable instead of clamps.
You helped a lot on this one!! never seen that done before, thanks for sharing.

Jeff, great information!! I guess an old dog can learn a new trick. Now if I can just remember this when I need it. 😂
Jeff why haven't you had a channel for years? Your videos are awesome!
You taught me something Jeff !
And here I already thought I knew everything
I had no idea Hannahs pops had a channel. This is great. Cheers from CA
Wow Thanks. I just busted the cable on my ATV last weekend. Good tip!👊🏻
Glad i seen how you did it. I thought id have to braid it back like i do rope. But this way you dont too. You can stop at the loop. Thanks for sharing Jeff

Helped me out from having to get a new cable for me trucks winch. Thank you.
That was awesome. Never would of thought of it. I'm going to have to give it a shot on my winch cable in my quad.
Pioneer of the great outdoors enjoying your awesome vids
And if you slide a bit of hose over the wire first, you can slide it back over the tail and main wire to form a very neat connection
That's some southern know how right there love the channel Jeff, appreciate y'all ❤️
Awesome.im a electrician braid ropes and cable all the time but never thought about doing this coool.Rolltide.Montg Al
Its great! Thanks Jeff! You have golden hands!
Jeff you are so awesome man. What a great tip! Thanks so much!
Good stuff right there Jeff. Follow the lay of the rope.
This is pretty cool... I have never seen it before. Thanks Jeff
Thats a great video. You can probably use some heat shrink on the end for a clean look
A good survival skill that helps in so many situations.
On a boat that is called a homeward bound, also used on power poles. You can cut the core out and lay the tail on the standing end for a neater job.
Great idea! I've seen those clamps fail too many times!
My Uncle taught that to me years ago and Ive passed it along to others, got me out of a bind several times as well.
I use heat shrink tube to keep the tail and main cable tight together after a splice it stops wire splinters
What do you think of the star shaped head on the screws now? I've found out their good going in , a year or two later when you try to remove them they have a tendency to round off making them tough to take out if you need to!

You made that look easy.
Jeff, is strong as an ox, lol!!!
Jeff, you are the MAN!!!!🤗👍👍👍
Great stuff! I've wondered how this was done. This was simple and to the point. Thanks for the upload :-D
Your the man Jeff.

Thanks for the cable lesson Jeff I just learned something thinking about getting some of your furniture hopefully I can contact you and Hannah God bless
Jeff is one cool fella. Thank you brother! Best of wishes to all. :)
Jesus! Jeff is jacked! 💪🏽 👀
That’s a neat trick! Keep it up, preciate ya!
Damn brother you truly can do just about anything thanks for sharing jeff
I have never seen that done!Amazing, thanks
Learned something new!!! Thx Jeff
Thanks brother, learn something new every day!, thanks to you.
Outstanding! This will be my new go to.................
always put the bow of the cable clamp on the dead end.never sadde a dead horse is the old saying
May I ask.
Where does the boards go once you get to your desination?
47 pound flat head with one arm. ..i heard the word boss man. Hope that finger heals fast 🇺🇸keep it merica

Laying some country boy knowledge down👍
Jeff would you use this technique on a small cable something for hanging a feeder or the like
Great info Jeff on the rigging can tell your old school all the way ..
Great video. Do u make archery bows? There is another channel that uses your picture and hannas as if it was you.
