- In this video, I talk about 5 tips for accelerating smoothly in an automatic car. One of the things that most new drivers can improve upon is smooth acceleration and braking. I cover one of those skills in this video. I talk about what you should do to ensure that you are pressing the gas pedal smoothly and bringing your car to a smooth acceleration while driving.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the videos and they have been very beneficial. Seriously. I watched one some morning before I was leaving my house some morning, about 5-10 years ago. Merely listening and visualizing your knowledge was so helpful and the benefits were immediately noticeable. What I needed was that explanation about acceleration and stopping your foot. Pushing it linearly (huge one), pushing it smoothly and especially putting into perspective the importance of the acceleration petal and how the car engine responds to how you push down on the petal. I’ve noticed the benefits which are more difficult to explain without the correct vocabulary, but driving smoothly is truly amazing, beneficial, everything just sort of works out on the road now. In dallas where everyone speeds and is so important, it may feel like I’m driving slow, but I’m not. People not know to stop depressing their accelerator is a big problem. They have no clue. No clue that I’m driving normally and smoothly, while they are close to my ass bumper ready to speed around me into all that traffic ahead. Driving in dallas is truly a tragic thing to observe on a daily basis.
I truly appreciate your ability to explain driving the way you did. I did watch other videos. Your way of explaining is the best. I appreciate your patience and empathy, and your awareness of your audience which is evident by the way you spoke and the language you used.

Quite useful tips for smooth driving in auto transmission
I'm used to a manual so if you "floor it" it won't necessarily give you "full power" if you're at low RPM, whereas I'd expect an automatic to auto-downshift. It acts more like an electronically controlled "horsepower pedal". I mean I'm driving a Citroen C2 1.1 so it's not exactly sports car acceleration anyway.

What would you suggest for a woman who has driven many manual cars of 40yrs. But yesterday my hubby bought an automatic and I feel like I never passed a driving test or driven a car before. This is bad but.. I took my dads car out for a drive after watching a bunch of your videos. I actually did decent I think. I was nervous but not as nervous I would have been if he was in the car. I’ve been doing it for like 2 months and practicing. I might ask him if he can start teaching me, he’s going to be confused when he sees me drive almost perfectly tho😂😂
Dude.... I did the same thing. I was already ready to take the test basically but didn't have my license yet so I snuck out and drove the car around late at night. In my defense, I was the only one who used the car and it was to be mine, but I absolutely did not have permission to do this and it was still my parents car. So when I got pulled over I was shaking like a leaf and would've gone to jail if not for my mom's name being on the title and not my stepdad.
Shameful, but it was fun. I still have the car today.
My automatic car jolts when i press the gas and starting when in slow moving traffic. Especially going up hills in traffic. What might be the problem.
Maybe it is a DCT type of automatic. DCT has that symptoms.

Is it okay to press the gas bit more aggressively after accelerated enough to get the car moving?. I am talking about going from smooth to aggressive on the gas after the car is 5 to 10mph. Please respond to my comment.
There is no need to ever the press the gas pedal 'aggressively' You just need to press it slowly, if you wish to go fast, don't press it hard, press it slowly until its all the way down

It will move as soon as you start na engine put it in Drive remove your foot from the break and it will move
Most automatic cars will move but in my experience some cars are too heavy and don’t have enough torque so you might have to accelerate a bit
