    A little side info about the pedals: Germany has some special rules about e-bikes. As long as it has pedals, less than 250 Watt and only accelerates up to 25 km/h, it's a so called "pedelec" and the rules are the same as for bicycles. As soon as it allows you to accelerate without pedaling, it's an e-bike which has various downsides. You need a simplified driver's license (Mofaprüfbescheinigung), a license tag, insurance and you're not allowed to use all bike paths. This is not the same in other countries, but it makes sense for companies to offer vehicles that do fall under these requirements, just so that they are bicycles by law.

    I went into shock when Russ said "there's too much bike stuff" - that is like an End Times event!
    It seems _a little ironic_ that there were no bikes to get around such a massive show.
    On the plus side, this expo facility has excellent safety features and fire exits.

    I think that in Europe there's legally no such thing as Class II and Class III bikes as we know them in the US. So everything must be pedal-assist, must not have throttles, have a maximum power of 250 watts and a top speed of 15.5mph (25km/h). Anything above that requires licensing as a moped or motorcycle.
    So all those cargo bikes and bike vans are probably made to meet these regs and must be able to be pedaled.

    Many thanks for going to Frankfurt, visiting the show and filming all that. I really enjoy watching your coverage. The pedals on some of those 'bikes' are there just to manage legal requirements (as many people mentioned). You do look disappointed sometimes, but as you said - there is a wide variety of people and they do enjoy their cycling in different ways. They also have different needs - some people use bikes just as a means of transport without any sentiment, others have some limitations - age/health/mobility - and just benefit from extending their range by using electric assistance. Considering this is a trade show and e-bikes are selling well in Europe (already surpassed non-e-bikes in some countries in terms of items sold, in terms of margins it must by way more) - this is what is shown. So don't be disappointed 😊 Next time come to Germany, do some bike touring before - e.g. part of EuroVelo route and while visiting Eurobike just the stands you are interested in - and of course - try some of those e-bikes 😂

      @hippiebits2071 Місяць тому +2

      I’m curious if you have owned both ? I love and have owned motorcycles but for short trips, a scooter or e-bike is just going to be less of a pain in the neck to deal with on a day to day basis imho and that doesn’t even touch on the issue of expense to own and insure. IDK it could very well be motorcycles are considerably different in Europe?

    • @roguecode2354
      @roguecode2354 Місяць тому

      @hippiebits2071 I guess my perspective is more from a safety pov, I haven't owned either because in the US it is like a death sentence to ride a motorcycle. I just figure it is better to have the power to escape a dangerous situation on a real motorcycle than a scooter.

    • @hippiebits2071
      @hippiebits2071 Місяць тому

      @@roguecode2354 Yes, I have no clue what motorcycling in Europe is actually like either. What I do know is that the learning curve for riding proficiency on a motorcycle is far greater than e-bikes or a scooter. There is clutch operated shifting required (almost every motorcycle) along with precision throttle control. Handling at very low speeds is also going to be far less awkward on a scooter or e-bike. I guess it really depends on the primary use on which is better but motorcycles are far more dangerous in inexperienced hands than either of the other two.

      @@anitaried115 You are completely right. Eurobike has not much left of its heart, a nature loving cyclist who loves pedaling and sweating. It is only a mirror of the industie that wants to sell vehicles. Fahrrad/Bicykle is defined as something with 2 wheels and pedals as far as I undestood it, the multiwheel Cargovehicles e.g. ...? Starting with Mountainbikes many years ago now more or less Mopeds/Motorbikes in focus. It is a different approach and needs a different name. New mobility or something like that.

      I think it does have a place in the world. In most South East Asia countries, people use regular gas motorcycles to commute. If we can replace 1/3 of it with pedal assist bicycles, there will be some more talk of building bicycle infrastructure here, which is non-existent unless you're in Singapore.
      I like the normal bicycle too, but one day i'll be too old, getting bad knees and back while still have to haul like 5kg+ of stuff in my backpack. So i'll be getting an e-bike rather than a motorcycle

    • @kaffeemitcola6506
      @kaffeemitcola6506 Місяць тому +2

      @@luandoduy416 You're right, there is a justification for such vehicles. But that's a different topic. Here the topic of "bicycles" has been hijacked and turned into motorcycles. All of these vehicles belong at trade fairs for motorcycles and transport vehicles, but they are not welcome there because the old established manufacturers of motorized vehicles do not want to give up market share to "bicycle manufacturers + motors". The hope that cycling infrastructure will be built because there are more bikes is a dream. It has to be politically desired and while, for example, more and more people are cycling here in Germany, at the same time less is being spent on cycling infrastructure, you can clearly see what can be expected from a country.
