I am 75 and had quad bi-pass surgery 4 weeks ago. I live between Austin and San Antonio. Seeing them singing on their porch reminds me that I need to get out and experience those old touches of Texas that still exist. I will spend more time outdoors, enjoying the blue skies, Live Oak and Pecans and they shade they cast. The small towns that used to have cowboys and their pick-ups are now urbanized. Very seldom do I see a young man with a working cowboy hat on. No, now it would be a base ball cap. Watching the video makes me want sit there with them enjoying a cold "Lone Star" and listening to them. Change is rapid and sneaky. Enjoy the pleasures of life, tomorrow they might not be there. So many things I loved and cherished about Texas, 50-60 years ago are just memories. Can not say the replacements are better, most times they are not.
JB, You must be male, Caucasian, Christian, and Heterosexual to miss the past so much. For the rest of us it sucked. I love this song though but just because I am not a cow. I hope you had a speedy recovery.
I heard this song the first time when I was 16, some 60 years ago. Growing up in a German speaking country nobody, not even the lady who sold me the LP could tell me what a 'dogie' was :) From what I remember it was performed by the Kingston Trio. Love the song by whoever performs it :)

The homeschool curriculum we’re using right now, Ambleside Online, recommended this song as our Folk Song for this week. I’m so glad they did.
