    Ep.74: Singing with Confidence - It’s NOT About How Good Your Voice Is!
    Why would I, as a teacher of vocal technique, tell you singing with confidence is not about how good your voice is?
    Watch and find out!
    Hi. I’m Chuck Gilmore with Power To Sing.
    The late Michael Shurtleff was a famous casting director for both Broadway and Hollywood productions. He wrote the book, “Audition” which is a great book about acting and performing. Listen to what he says about singing in auditions. It applies to singing at any time.
    Gain Confidence Singing from these Singing Stars
    These singers help me understand that my success as a singer and performer is not about how great my voice is. My success as a singer is about the emotional connection I make with others.
    Great performers use their voices, and many other things like their passion, love and commitment to share their song. They commit fully to give themselves to their purpose and meaning and to lay it bare before us. We identify and connect with them. We connect with their love and their vulnerabilities. We identify with them. Their honesty draws us in to them. The quality of their voices is just part of it. In some cases just a small part of it.
    Singing with Confidence
    If it’s about the emotional connection why voice lessons?
    Master the vocal technique so you can forget about it and lose yourself in the song. If you are so worried about the high notes coming up that you can’t get into the song, you won’t create any emotional life or connection with the audience.
    As you remove the limitations in your voice, you gain great freedom and confidence to sing your songs. You have an underlying confidence in your voice so you can forget about your voice.
    What if people don’t like your voice?
    As I’ve mentioned in previous videos you can be one of the greatest singers and performers in the world, and there will be many, if not most of the population of the world who would prefer not to listen to you.
    =====================
    =====================
    These singers help me understand that my success as a singer and performer is not about how great my voice is. My success as a singer is about the emotional connection I make with others.
    Great performers use their voices, and many other things like their passion, love and commitment to share their song. We identify with them. Their honesty draws us in to them. The quality of their voices is just part of it. In some cases just a small part of it.
    The honesty and vulnerability in sounding like you immediately opens the hearts of your listeners to you and your unique voice...even if it’s less than perfect. In fact, often we like the imperfect voice...because most of us don’t relate to perfection. We relate to the real you. We relate to the feelings and emotions you are sharing with us.
    Mastering your vocal technique will also let you have fun with your voice. Literally you can look forward to the high notes in the song. There is tremendous freedom that comes with this. You’re free to let yourself go and give yourself to your song and your audience. We will love you for it.
    Understanding your voice is a great way to grow in confidence. It helps to know your vocal type, or what you tend to do when you sing. This helps you work efficiently on your voice by focusing on eliminating limitations and maximizing your own talent.
    Go to PowerToSing.com and take the vocal test which I call the PowerTest. Take the quiz and discover your vocal type. Then visit the Knowledge Center and watch the videos about your vocal type. Download the free exercises and start improving your voice immediately.
    I’m Chuck Gilmore with Power To Sing. You can sing higher, with beauty, confidence and power.
    I’ll see you inside the next video.

    This actually explains a lot. I have the most confidence singing when I’m also listening to the music I’m singing. I was so confused as to why I could only sing decently when I was listening to it and I realized I ‘couldn’t’ sing without the music playing because I never believed in myself and wound just start overthinking everything

    I've been training my voice for a very long time but I was trapped to my own beliefs. I always believed that I can't belt high notes because of my low voice, but when I tried singing with confidence, I was shocked by the results. I never thought that I can belt much higher notes than expected. Thank you so much for encouraging me to sing to my full potential! ❤️

    I sing really well in silly accents (strong voice, perfect pitch) because im playing around and i dont expect others to critique me because, well, its a joke, but when i actually try my voice gets higher, goes scratchy, goes flat, and sounds nervous. thanks so much!!!!

    When I sing I sound so plain and boring cause I have no confidence to put emotion into it....I can keep in tune and hit the notes I just really lack that character cause I’m too embarrassed to express myself

    I only sing confidently when i know theres no people around .
    My dad said that my voice doesnt sound good in falsetto but that was my comfortable way of singing every since when i was a child . My classmates also said that my falsetto sound kinda my normal voice and its sound so real ? Idk what sge means tho .
    I dont like my voice i also think my voice doesnt sound good .

    Now this. So much this. I needed this feeling verbalized to me. I knew it!
    It's probably gonna be harder for those who suppress their emotions and do so while singing, as well.

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  3 роки тому +1

      It is harder...especially for someone who identifies themselves as very shy or soft spoken. When singing we have to put ourselves "out there" and let others into our souls.

    I actually sing very well naturally. My Gift is straight from heaven. And I write naturally. But the ONLYYYYTY thing holding me back from starting is fear and being critical of myself. I have many many ideas for songs and concepts I’m passionate about I’d like to make music about. But I think what if my voice cracks when I sing it live. What if people think my style of music is too sad. What if I don’t look attractive in my music video lol. The dumb stuff. How do I get over myself so I don’t waste my talents. I’m 21 and this is the best time for me to try.

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  Рік тому +4

      Go out and fail as often as possible. Make plenty of mistakes, embarrass your self, and celebrate your effort. Have fun in the process. You will soon realize, life goes on. It really makes little difference. And then keep doing the same until you success more than you fail. After a while you will wonder what you were so afraid of.

    • @alika207
      @alika207 Рік тому +3

      Who cares if your voice cracks? Every singer has at least once. Those who think your style of music is too sad are just people who don’t want to invest in your music emotionally. I bet they will not know what they are missing out on. and regarding how you look, I’ve literally been blind since birth, so to me, everybody looks beautiful!

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  8 років тому +3

      In "Without Love" I think he is not belting, but is in a mix of head and chest voice. He was either trained to do it, or more likely he had a natural gift that allowed him to sing an F# above Middle C without belting or pulling up chest voice. Unless you have a natural gift, you can train your voice to mix. If there is balance and coordination in the voice, you can develop a powerful voice to the limits of your particular capacity.

    Gosh, I would just LOVE to listen to your videos, but the dominant background music makes it unbearable for me like for most HDPs. And it is totally obsolete, the presence if your beautiful voice is all it needs. Please, would you consider reuploading your videos without? With all respect...🙏

    • @PowerToSing
      @PowerToSing  Рік тому

      That would be a great project. Unfortunately, reuploading the video also resets the views to zero. So this video, instead of showing 14,000 people viewing it over a 6 year period, it would say, 1 view and the post date would be reset to the day the new video went live. Collectively, instead of my channel showing 24 million views, it would show a few views and then youtube doesn't show my videos to anyone. So...I have to live with my mistakes.
