This video helped me a lot, but If anyone is interested in using blend modes with this plugin keep this rule in mind: LAYER_S ID GRAPHIC X Y OPACITY Z BLEND XANCHOR YANCHOR CHARACTER ROTATE. 0=normal 1=add 2=multiply 3=add. This is also in the plugin instructions obviously, but I don't like to read things carefully and was banging my head against a wall trying to figure it out. (I feel like using the multiply blend mode for shadows looks prettier than just normal mode IMO)
Whats kinda a problem would probably be the fact if people have Day and Night functions. So the light from Day would have to disappear. But I enjoy watching these. I sometimes have these vids playing in the background while I play around doing things.
My plugin Manager doesn't recognize the plug in. I'm new, so I search up and realize that LvL Up Design forgot to talk about the Edit in the plugin manager when you click right. I'm happy to make good custom game! Thanks for the tuto.
Nice vid mate but you dont have to calculate and make pixel perfect cuts, you can just screenshot the map from your MZ, (right click on map, save as image) so you get the whole map, even if its really big ect... then you can draw whatever you like on it. In the MV there is a bug where the picture gets downsized double, so when you make it back to its original size its quality is really bad and you could not use this save as function but thankfully in the MZ they fixed it. ( now thinking about it, there was absolutely no reason why they didnt fix it for the MV as well, a simple update and voila... but yeah, the MZ is kinda the update, an update they charge us full price, so yeah. :D )
Hey Daniel, Yes, I realised that I've been doing it the wrong way for years! I can't even remember where I learned how to do it like this. But I do fix it in future videos. I'm still surprised there isn't a whole range of things they haven't implemented in MZ, but now that it's their main engine, we should hopefully see some support for it.
@@LvLUpDesign nah bra, you did not do it the wrong way, just a different way. :D But it indeed is easier with its save as feature, when it works how it should work that is... :D
Can someone please tell me how to do this. I can't get my image to remain centred. It's driving me insane. It works on one part but not on another and I've calculated everything correctly. Help. Pls.
This flat doesn't work for me. Not surprised, I do have a mild form of gremlins. I'm using the MV version but nothing should really be different right? Even using the codes given in the MV plugin results in a blank screen. I have the Layers folder in img, I export as png from GIMP. What gives?
OK, it doesn't appear until you enter the game. Cool. But my image disappears once my actor moves a short distance down the map, leaving nothing but the ground tile visible until I move back up the map, where the parallax pops back up.
Awesome work as usual. Really enjoy it. Keep it up. I have been going through your tutorials. Is there one on creating scenes? For example having npcs auto move and have dialogue with other npcs or pcs?
Thanks for your very insightful tutorial! I've just figured out, though, that RPG Maker XP doesn't make use of plugins, but rather of scripts. You know any equivalent layer graphic script by any chance? Thx!
Hey there! How would you go about a stealth section where you have to escape a castle? I already made the escape out of the cells. And i was thinking about letting the Player decide if they want to enngage the enemies or sneak past. But i guess those Segments would take so Much work. So much eventing. Im bound to the core on ps4 so no plugins. If i dont find a solution thats a reasonable amount of work ill probably just go on with random encounters.
Hmm, a stealth section using only events. It's doable, but more than I can explain in one comment. Does you're PS4 Version have common events? I'll probably have to make a video about it.
@@LvLUpDesign yes there are common Events. I found a Video using variables yesterday. Itll work i guess But thats much work. ua-cam.com/video/GTdzs3rk2XU/v-deo.html
Any ideas for outdoor lighting? Like a town at night for example? A blue tint doesn't seem to quite do it. I've been watching Luigi's mansion 3 and the lighting there is amazing. Its night time, but its not blue, but it is dark.
I would say just straight black. The best way to do it would be to add lighting effects to it. So the shadow is a dark black. No light coming from windows, only candles and stuff, so when you erase the shadow over a candle, you put an orange glow over the top of that.
Thanks for the guide! I have one question however; when I followed this steps it worked perfectly in game for the environment, but none of the characters seem affected by any shadows casted on them, its like they're above the layer. Do you have any clue as to what I did wrong or any setting I need to change for that?
I followed all the steps but it keeps telling me that it failed to load the image and I made sure over and over again the file names are exactly the same. Any idea why this is happening?
@@LvLUpDesign It is, yes. There are some plugins that could potentially be getting in the way so I might try playing around a bit and see what happens.

What if i don't have photoshop due to "le no enough money"? What can i use as a substitute? (Wasted my life savings so i can make a game for a school project.)
Yes. Because us women deff dont like smart things or video games. We just like makeup and dolls. No girl would ever sleep with anyone with two monitors and a light up keyboard. And definitely would never dream of one day having their own set up exactly like that, nor would they ever spend any amount of time making games. I spent my whole life thinking I was a girl. But accourding to that comment. I guess I'm not. Cause if I was I'd never be interested in any of this. Damn. (Heavy sarcasm if anyone couldnt tell XD)
Great tutorial but I'd choose a different (and better) plug-in besides Galv's. Personally, I cannot support him given how much of a massive douchebag he is.

exactly, i dont use it because i use community lighting
Good tutorial, only want to mention that you can right click on the map and select save image as. I skipped doing the math part and just did that.
Using this method does not produce the correct size for me. Resizing it in GIMP causes a huge drop in image resolution.
It saves at half the resolution in MV.
I really do enjoy these for keeping me from being a fool.

Another great and useful video. Thank you. Would you mind making a video tutorial in MZ for Bust characters using Galv?
Sure thing! Are you thinking like having the busts appear for when the characters are talking?
Instead of calculating the size can you just use save image as from you maker itself?
