  • In this video I convert a 433MHz Diamond antenna into a 2 element Yagi directional antenna. This modification takes 3 minutes to complete and is very effective at boosting your range.

    Yagis are really a good way to boost forward gain & reception. Back in the days of Packet Radio (sort of internet/email via amateur radio, usually on 144mhz, 220mhz & 440mhz), I had some really high gain yagis .. 15 elements on 220mhz, and a pair of 'stacked' 11 element yagis on 144 mhz. I needed all this gain, as my Packet 'Node' was a transfer point of data between Cleveland (OH) and Erie (PA) .. a distance of 90 miles from each other, and I was right between them. Stations in Cleve. could 'digi-peat' thru my Node to Erie (and vice/versa). I also used these antennas to make Packet Radio contacts with SkyLab, Mir and ISS. Those were fun times. Now I have to go look for my "QSL" cards that I got back from those space stations. Keep on experimenting!

    Is this possible with the Diamond 986mhz antenna, if so, what length would the wire be reflecting the signal please.
    Love your channel!!!!!

    Would like to see you place a parasitic director element in front of the diamond antenna and see how much the gain increase is and how it effects the beam width in conjunction with the reflector parasitic element.

    • @CAGreve1231

      It would need to be smaller. Probably 11.75" if I had to guess. I could be done, though.

    An off topic question. I'm thinking of going over to nice dipoles for the airborne side of my stuff that flies on 1.3. Am I correct in thinking my mad mushroom is still the best way to receive that in an omnidirectional fashion?

    Hey Alex, what would happen if You measured the antenna gain with a radio behind it? We were tuning a moxon and realised that if the antenna is placed where it usually is on Taranis X9D - in front of module bay....it slightly de-tunes. Have You noticed this?

    • @CAGreve1231
      @CAGreve1231  4 роки тому +1

      I haven't seen any detuning worth noting. You might get a small change in gain, but it should be minimal.

    Alex in your opinion what is the best TX antenna? I have a SRH771 at moment and nothing wrong with it, but I've seen people use this diamond antenna and a dipole and yeah just curious if its a improvement

    • @CAGreve1231
      @CAGreve1231  5 років тому

      I used to use the SRH771 until the Diamond was designed. Now I fly the Diamond exclusively. My RSSI is much better.

      @@CAGreve1231 Thanks mate, is it worth doing the Yagi mod for general flying? I'll be honest I haven't delved very far into 433 yet, either way I'm going to be ordering a specter and chimera hd from stoneblue so I'll add a diamond too order
