A bit misleading. The Sumatran Rhinos is definitely not the most endangered species in captivity, though they're one of the most. There are some species in captivity that are down to less than 10 animals, one frog that I can think of is only known from one captive specimen. Also, I don't think the rhinos are the most expensive species to feed in captivity. Just saying, not trying to knock off the fantastic work the zoo has done and good job guys for doing it!
That's not a true statement at all. In my experience, the Black Rhino is usually the most popular. And white rhinos (whichever species you're referring to) aren't bigger by that much, most people wouldn't even be able to tell the difference unless two species were side by side. At my local zoo, Bronx, the Indian Rhinos are generally more popular than the Southern Whites, and when I went to Cincinnati over the summer, the Sumatrans stole the show!
Why? The Southern White Rhino is the most common and least endangered of all the rhinos and one of the most common, if not, the most common rhino in captivity. Cincy focuses on the rarer ones.
the thing you have to understand is, the sumatran rhino is the most unique amongst all rhinos for being around the longest (ie the most ancient) and being related to the woolly rhino. the woolly rhino has gone extinct. it would be very sad if during our lifetimes the sumatran rhino also goes extinct.
I'm sorry but for a more hardcore zoo-goer and animal, for a lack of a better word, expert (I do not consider myself a big expert, though, know that) like myself, Indian, Black, and, especially, Sumatran Rhinos are much more interesting and cooler. Now, if you want to argue with the Northern White Rhino, then I can see your point as they're rarer than any of the others (7 or less left) and are interesting but the Southern White (the one in zoos) is the least interesting of the bunch!
Save them

See you again when UA-cam recommends this again

Should get a white rhino
