It’s long overdue that DJ Quik gets his credit man. He’s one of the pioneers of the G-Funk sound and had one of the most savage diss tracks in rap history. DJ Quik was not only a elite producer, but an elite rapper too. He influenced a lot of artists who were more mainstream than him.
Quick always got his respect from real hip hop heads who cares about the others who dont know about him! Its Mel-Man who really dont get his just do! You cant name a 90s Dre hit that Mel-Man didnt produce & Dre took credit for!
WTF u talking about Mel man didn't get known till the chronic 2001 dre had already had so many albums 5hat he had produced. Mel man was mediocre at best.
@@2stroketyson79 You cant name any Quik beat that Rob Bacon, Tracy Kendrick, and Courtney Branch didnt produce for Quik. People say Safe + Sound is a turning point for Quik’s production. Thats because he hired Warryn Campbell and George Archie to his ghost producer list. In terms of Mel-Man, he was nothing but a brief collaborator on the drums. Mike Elizondo and Camara Kambon were the main musicians for Aftermath. Scott Storch did some piano work on Still Dre and some other stuff. Wtf did Mel Man do????? Gtfohsb
That's a Super fact!!!💯 He's the best pound for pound rapper/producer in Hip Hop History, he does both at a high level!!!
#2. Is Kanye West...
You left out the G cuz the G ain't in you. Say bro yet another one was when he was talking about sniping nwa in a 🌳 I have to say he was sneakily banging on wax the first. Before we even knew what tree top was here in ft. Worth Texas I remember hearing him say that and between 91 and 92
First crips and then bloods and pirus migrated here. I liked both artists quik and eiht but dj quite was killing eiht on wax big time. Very glad both are friends and both are still here with us. Much love bro and be safe
like quik said himself....its gonna take for him to be a posthumous rapper/producer to get the credit deserved and he said hes ok with that now that hes gotten older. salute yassine
I like Quick one of the King 👑💯🙏I still Listen to DJ$QICK AS NOW I AM 55YEARS 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
@@yalandapaden8226 your not lying 1 bit classic west coast funk!
Quik is a fake producer. Rob Bacon carried his whole career
@@dianevrules you’re a troll
@@dianevrules
Who's Rob Bacon ? How was he able to carry Q.
First time hearing of him, would’ve never thought he worked on “ In da club” and “ hot in here “. Those were literally some of the biggest records back in the day. Give this man his credits 🔥💯🎇
I wonder how much he did tho
Lol you ain’t never heard of quick?
The masses never have the goods. Although quick ain’t all that. There’s definitely much better, especially in Atlanta and on the east.
you too young boy
@@VgalloAtl? yeah ok bro you had Jermaine dupri and lil bow wow. 😂 🤡
QUICK IS THE PRINCE OF RAP! HE DOES ALL HIS OWN TRACKS, BY HIMSELF! DRUMS, CHORDS, SAMPLING ALL OF IT! HE'S A GENIUS! QUICK IS TWO DR. DRE'S!
No disrespect but that’s a dumb statement NWA didn’t come up and make a splash in the rap scene they pioneered it they created it without NWA I very much doubt the rap scene would be where it was without NWA and they had just parted ways when quick dropped his debut album in 91. Don’t get it twisted quick is a very talented rap artist and has produced some amazing tracks and artists and his talent is evident. And way 2 funk is always in my library But to say 3 if Dre is foolish because with out just 1 Dre everything that came after would never have happened.
@@keithdavison2960 Well, As someone who lived through those times. And has been in spaces with both producers. And as someone who has personally spoken to other ghost producers in regards to them not getting their proper credit for HUGE Dre tracks. I disagree whoelheartedly. Not taking away from Dre because no one can bring a track together more sonically than Dre. However, that doesnt set aside the fact that a lot of his hit tracks after NWA, more than not did not come solely from his hands. Again, I am a fan of Dre and have every album he has ever done. But as a producer i respect Quik more creatively becuase he does it all. When you do it all..Like Prince or Teddy Riley, that speaks volumes. Because that is hard as hell. As for Dre Pionerring Gansta rap. Not true...Look at the music video We are all in the Same Gang and you will see a few more Pionerring artist. And they were ganster as well. Dre did what he was supposed to do. And that is suceed! As did Quik..
Not true. Warren Campbel did "Dollars & Sense" track.

I love this!!!!!!
@SeanShaw72VOICESSTUDIO you have mistaken co producers as ghost producers
DJ Quik is a GENIUS. Quik is the Name, Safe + Sound, and Rhythmalism are masterpieces, but I like every album I've ever heard from him. Not only can he rap his ass off, he's produced some of the greatest songs in music history. Most of his instrumentals can stand toe to toe with anything in music, any genre. If there were any justice in the world, every one of his albums would be diamond.

Great dancer too
About God damn time, somebody gave this man his respect on everything
Not to mention Quik brought us AMG, 2nd II None, and HI-C...They owned the house parties in my high school years...💯💯
Quik only brought 2nd II None. Hi-C was brought in the game with Tony A, via Steve Yano and Skanless Records. AMG had a deal with Select before he met Quik. You dont know s&&$
Don’t you mean Two None? 🤣🤣🤣 I fell out when Yassine said that. I love him but he be showing his age by butchering some names.
Quik is a different type of monster himself.
There are songs he produced that doesnt even have his signature sound.
And, still be classic.
Dre has a bunch of beatmakers, he just touch em up and done.
Quik works his music from scratch and can actually play alot of instruments
Quick is beyond underrated!! He is a genius 😎🙏❣️
I wish that I had the power to make all uncompensated/underrated/unappreciated hip-hop artists of yesteryear receive their rightful due; Because they're all my heroes! From album 1, I knew that Quik was someone who could stand next to Dre in terms of production. The man can truly make music.
THANK YOU for this video.
Quik is not only a well respected legend, prodigy and producer but he's LEGITIMATELY a genius. If he was in silicon valley he would be pushing tech forward with his innovations, he's just that kind of mind to me.
I hope Quik sees your video and knows there's so many of us who see and appreciate what he's done for the house of hip hop and that he deserves the wing he has there.
The real underdog producer in Dr Dre's shadow is Mel-Man who co produced the entirety of his 2001 album, as well as a bunch of other records on Aftermath Records
Preach
Exactly. Nobody wanna talk about that these days.
there's also Mike elizondo and bunch of others. Scott storch also worked on 2001 but he's already famous. the Hiphop image of a producer as a single dude hunched over a drum machine is flawed. music is fundamentally collaborative and to get the best you have to work with other people on the music. nobody bashes quincy Jones and tons of legendary producers for having collaborators. only Hiphop. it's so dumb
@@yogi2983 The difference is hip hop is the only genre where one person takes credit for the work and influence of multiple people. Case in point, the liner notes to the Chronic 2001 album didn't give any producers credit besides Dre and Mel Man. Not to mention that many of the all time greats actually _are_ dudes hunched over machines.
Good call
DJ Quik will always be my fave producer and one of my top 5 artists ever.. The man is incredibly talented.. his sound mixing is Grammy award winning as well.. matter fact.. his sound engineering and mixing was so well respected Jim Henson gave him a master key to Henson studios before he died. That’s a fact! 💯
If you think that Quik is mixing his songs by himself, you are gullible af. Skip Saylor had a lot of engineers working the pots and faders for Quik
@@dianevrules So out of everything I mentioned you decided to be hyper-aggressive over that? I never implied he sound mixed by himself just was bringing to light the fact that his work was celebrated.. which is what this entire thread is about, celebrating an icon 🙄
Much respect for this one. Quik is no doubt a top 3 West Coast producer and a top 10 producer of all time.
Quik also allegedly ghost produced “In Da Club” 😮
He didn't ghost produce in da club. He gave Dre the drums.
the in da club beat came from sha money
@@QR_Code It was produced by Dr Dre & Mike Elizondo. These DJ QUIK fans are something else. They are always trying to discredit Dre to make QUIK seem bigger when both artists are legends.
QUIK has even told the story. He said he was working with Dre on a record, i guess the truth hurtz album, that was when Dre brought him over after dissing Dre for not letting him work on Aftermath projects. QUIK can be a carzy at times
He did the CLAPS on the drums, Dre heard it & told him it was cool & ended up using it on in da club instead of on the song they were working on.
In a way, that's production credit. Unless QUIK sold the "claps" outrightly & so can't be credited.
@@grandmasterteebo6257 yeah, i know what the credits say, but i want to disrupt the nonsense. i remember a long time ago hearing that the in da club beat was circulated around and alot of ppl passed on it. coulda been a skeleton or whatever and Dre and Elizonda worked on it and got it right or whatever. now apparently Ddj Quik produced it by puttin "his claps" on it 😅 as if Quik invented claps... i mean i dont get why its always a competition when both these guys respect each other as some of the best. Quik always acknowledges Dre but every couple years he spazzes out and talk shit about Dre and then backtracks, lol
@@QR_Code You don't get to invent your own stories. Dj QUIK said he did the claps & Dre liked it & used it on in da club. That song was done by Mike Elizondo, Dr Dre

Give people their credit when it’s due, don’t hide another mans shine just so you can shine brighter. Everyone deserves a piece of the pie along as you work for it, give Dj Quick his flowers.
Quik is the dopest producer in the west and competes for the world. He stays solid af, his albums are ALL him... no ghostwriters, not many mainstream features. And still get work with all the best. And he brought us SUGA FREE! HOF game for Quik
He blessed Nipsey Hussle with "Checc Me Out" This man deserves his flowers.

The very man who made me fall in love with music. Happy to see a video on him, thank you Yassine
It’s second to none bro 😅😂
Dude just dismissed the whole video with that. Not a fan obviously.
Quik is the Name was my 3rd rap album purchased. For a kid in 6th grade living in the middle of nowhere pits of hell Texas, that album was everywhere around town. Such a classic. I bought his next 2-3 albums and they weren't even close. They were just ok in my mind.
S/O to you for shining a light on this genius of a producer & DJ.
In his comparison with Dr. Dre, I feel he can match him in terms of artistry, talent & skillset. I just feel Dre has a family tree (something Quik doesn't have per se). Secondly, Dr. Dre is a corporate and perfectionist figure. Whilst Quik is a casual & cool brother.
My professor has DJ Quik as his best rap producer. 😊
Ghost producers are very common in hip hop. Your favorite producer probably didn't make your favorite beats. A team of people behind the scenes did, and he just added a random sound to it. And take all the Credit
That's how diddy got a career
Ion think most people know wat a actual producer really is most of da time. Some producers don't make da beats at all thats wat engineers do. But some producers do make beats
@@DaJuiceisLoose11 that's not what engineers do lol. What are you talking about. They do the mixing and mastering
@@DaJuiceisLoose11 engineers mix the beat while the producers create it...a lot of producers dont engineer well is another fact

Quik is underrated and under valued. He was one of the first rappers/ producers that I ever heard. He’s definitely the first rapper that was banging on wax. His production skills are right up there with Dre”s. He been doing this for over 30 years.his sound is and was ahead of its time. He’s more than just a rapper/ producer, he really knows music and sound, he mixes albums, he is a engineer, and he has produced a lot of songs over the years. Quik did the drums on 50 Cents in the club. He did a lot of stuff that don’t know about. He may not get the props like Dre, but real Hip heads know and recognize what Quik contributed to Hip Hop.
Bro you did a phenomenal job on this piece of The legend Quick...I was 12 when I got into the west coast sound and Quick open my eyes and ears to that west coast flavor
Just know your appreciated my dude. You been giving some good content for the last year that I have been here
DJ Quik is not in Dre's shadow. Quik is his own lane. Quik is the man!!!!
Needed this video tor a long time! DJ Quik really deserves more than wat he is now
One of my favourite rappers of all time. Started listening to his music as a teenager and I still listen to his music today 30 yrs later.
Everyone who grew up in that era knows quick was the best story teller on the west coast hands down
*Quik
Penthouse Playas is what’s up! I still jam “Smooth” till this day, on repeat
Checkmate.
To be fair Quik is known in the scene very well and Quik was quite well known in the 1990s. In the 2000s he did more underground stuff. He also never pushed himself into the spotlight on the bigger productions like Dre did. Dre and Timbaland for example always appeared in many videos or even on track of big mainstream rap songs. Dre even had his own spot light with the 2001 album, but especially because of all the artists he had on there. Dre also became very famous because of Eminem, who blew up globally in an insane pace. And let's not forget that he appeared in RnB videos as well. Quik has always been more low key.
I dont think that's by choice tho. He has lots of high profile collabs. Toni, Tony, tone, R Kelly (w / G One), Janet Jackson, etc. He just didn't have the right team behind him to get the looks that Dre did.
@ri067953 He should've been in that R Kelly Home Alone video all his fans know he produced it the moment we heard it but he also let G One take the credit for whatever reason
1st time I heard Quik was 1990. I don't remember the song but I know I was hitting the repeat button, on the cd player.
Next stop, I bought the CD, with the cut,
"Dollars and Sense".
Over 2 decades later and It still gets played, from my playlist. Later worked with Debarge, 50 & Nelly. RESPECT to DJ Quik.
And Thanks for the post.

I Love Quik! That G did alot to help me in life! So many experiences I went through, so much knowledge accumulated through the use of his music and others, I got Memories that will last me a lifetime because of it. How do you get kicked out of school without having a address? What if a child is homeless or lives in a car? Can't you just give them a random one if its required? I hope that still isn't a policy 😕
He was kicked out the district for committing fraud. If he wanted to attend a Compton school from a Los Angeles residence, he would have to apply for it and be added to a waiting list. Otherwise he can easily enroll in a school in his district of home address. Homeless was not a problem at that time. So policies were different
Rhythm-al-ism is arguably for me for me one of the best hip-hop records...
True artistry beats Bells whistles horns you name it in so many ways.... no pun intended being in this gentleman's age group I seen the history of hip-hop develop truly a Renaissance Man ahead of his time I understood it... thank you DJ Quik ... your record will stay in my crate forever being a DJ back in the day myself ...thank you sir!
quik is well respected, dont get it twisted. Legendary producer which history will remember for sure
I own all of quiks albums, the guy is phenomenal.
Definitely underrated and understated. I think the fact that he stands on his own merit and in the discussion a one of the great hip-hop producers without a large machine behind him says volumes. I think he should embrace that part. Not many can say they have done what he has done without huge corporate/industry machines behind them.
Quik is more than a hip hop
Producer he did a lot of work for 9 inch nails, a lot of r&b and countless mixing and mastering credits for many genres also plays almost every instrument
Another super underated produer was Johnny J. Look at deathrow's lineups hits. Alot of them was from Johnny J. He's the most underated and needed more attention.

They are both talented. Dre is just lucky to make some serious business moves to secure himself financially beyond music. Quik was just stuck in a contract that prevented him from succeeding financially and musically. Quik is underrated for sure and I could definitely see him competing with Dre back then.
Quik is the most underrated. His sound and flow was what raised me💯💯💪🏿💪🏿
D. J. Quick deserves his Flowers he is a living Legend in Hip Hop overall a GOAT .
One of the most underrated rappers of all time. Respect to DJ Quik!
Small correction…6:44 mark: 2nd II None is pronounced “Second 2 None”
Quik is a LEGEND and GOAT in the production/DJ game, especially in the West. My cousin used to rap back in the 90’s before he was murdered (long live Tommy Gunn). He took me to a session with Quik back in 94 that changed my life and gave me a different love for music, particularly the production side.
DJ quick is honestly one of the greatest. All the way from South Africa and his work has been 🔥🔥🔥🔥
DJ QUIK is one of my goat's. Dude's body of work is up there with the best of them.
Dr. Dre is the standard when it comes to production. Quik is up there with Dre as far as longevity but Dre been doing it at a high level since NWA. Quik has even conceded this himself. I think businesswise Quik suffered hence the overshadowed term. Dre on the other hand made a lot of career-oriented business moves which benefited him. The problem is that the audiences throughout the decades have created this imaginary battle between the two and it didn't help that his paperwork was not right. I love both these guy's work. They're number one and two in my favorite hip hop producer' list.
Dre didn't do anything business wise he had Jimmy Iovine lookin out for him and getting him that headphones deal

I was playing "QUICK IS THE NAME" album for about 5years straight in my music lineup. DJ Quick got me out of beef just by playing his music. I was in an under 21 shelter (Covenant House) in NYC and got into beef with some dudes from Chicago & Missouri. I'm from Bronx NY. I refused to back down so I planned on fighting 1 or both of them at any time. 1 morning I could feel the tension and was ready to give them hell so I was cleaning my room, getting psyched up, playing DJ Quick - QUICK IS THE NAME LP/ "Loked Out Hood". 1 of the 2 ops walked by my room as we exchanged mean stares... Dude doubled back and asked "YO.. That's DJ Quick?". I replied "Yeah" dude left and later came back, apologized and said the beef is squashed. later that day we chilled in the day room listening to QUICK IS THE NAME, WAY 2 FONKY albums discussing our favorite songs. True story. I never got too close to dudes i didn't know but we agreed there was no issue from that day on. That was spring 1995.
DJ Quik and Daz both underrated producers
If I was Quik I would’ve used Tupac’s distaste for Dre against him. I woulda gave all my beats to Pac.
if quik came in to it with a mixtape for the neighbors, he as well brought that feelig to all of us who got to hear his music.. o7 had his beat as a ringtone for so long, hearing it still brings me a brief moment of stress lol. good old times

I always like Quik, but I didn't know all this about him. Very informative. Great work.
Daz also Dre took credit for alot of his work
What tracks did he take credit for? In an interview with pac he said he only did 2 songs on AEOM
@@kendalldavis6082 fiction!!!!!!! Priest Brooks did every single Death Row production with Daz’s name on it. Why tf would Dre take credit from a fake producer like Daz? Also name the last Snoop album where Daz is credited for producing a beat? Priest Brooks have been credited for production on every single Snoop album, from Doggfather tothat BODR bs. GTFOHSB
Quik is an amazing producer and deserves all the credit he’s earned. That being said, it’s not necessarily Dre’s fault for him not having his shine. I’m sure there is some history between them not might not have worked out in Quik’s favor but Dre came from NWA and was attached to some of the largest artists at that time (Eazy, Cube, Yella, Ren, DOC, so on), then Dre’s departure and beef with Eazy and being a founding member of DeathRow blew his name up even larger. Also Dre got a large amount of notoriety for finding up and coming talent such as Snoop, Em, Hittman, King T, so on. Even having Tupac’s name attached to him was massive even though Dre did not discover Pac. The same follows for today. Dre still has Em on Aftermath and currently has both Anderson .Paak, and Bruno Mars on the label and has Kendrick Lamar as an associate artist - all of them are large artists that he didn’t find from the underground but brought together to cultivate onto a great platform. All besides Em
These vids are getting intense. Love this gem on Quick. He’s synonymous to the palm trees on the west side. Legendary.
DJ quik is one of my top favorite producers and rappers of hip hop. Thank you for showing him some love. W video
