Easy Way to Hang Curtains | Home Hack

- Did you know you can hang curtains without installing permanent hooks? This home hack for hanging curtains is great for homeowners and renters alike. A few simple steps will have curtains hung in no time!
Use command hooks and a curtain rod with a heavy load capacity. Take a square piece of paper or cardboard and cut out a corner to match the corner of the window. Decide the height you want the curtain to be mounted above the window and mark the cardboard. Make holes where you’ve marked. Place the cardboard on the wall and mark through the holes, onto the actual wall. Do this for both sides. Attach the command hook to the wall mount. Place the command hook and wall mount on the wall, lining them up with the marks you’ve made. Wait thirty minutes for the command hook to become secure and hang your curtains.

Step 1: Get two old pieces of wood from your local home improvement store.
Step 2: Glue them at a 90-degree angle using wood glue.
Step 3: Let it dry.
Step 4: Use it as a guide for your drill.

Thank you for this you’re a lifesaver I paid a lot of money for the curtains rods that I have for moved to an apartment for the wall so hard you can’t even get a nail through it and then on top of that if I damage the walls I’m sure I’ll be held accountable so these were so much easier now I have to figure out how to get the money back from the curtain rod that I’ve already purchased around December 😳

I've been doing exactly this since at least 2006 through several different moves. It does work great, though I wish 3M made a special rod-holding hook for the purpose -- it would be a little better if offset another half inch or inch out from the wall, for example.
BigTexGent i wonder if I could just use the command strips and use just regular curtain holding hooks instead of the command hooks?
Problem is if too much weight is away from the wall. The Command Hooks are designed to prevent things from falling straight down. If the weight is 5 cm away from the wall it makes the top part of the strip pull before causing it to lose grip.
Nearly any ornament on the ends of the rod makes the rod sit too far away from the wall to fit the command hooks. W/o ornament rod fits same as at 00:31 in the video. One thing I also tried is using zip ties same color as the rod around the ends of the rod. Hooked the zip ties from the rod to command hooks instead of placing the rod into command hooks. Ornaments fit. A little weird looking though if anyone looks closely.

Works on one side, but not for the other. After many failed attempts I just gave up. I’m going back to the old fashioned way.

Seems more beneficial for the purpose of marking the holes evenly for rods rather than Command hooks. The c hooks appear too flush on the wall.

QUESTION: Would I placing the Command strip with the hook that came the strip? From there would I be hooking the bracket onto the Command hook? Or, do I use the Command hook in place of brackets? Has anyone used a Command strip on the bracket its self?

I want to hang outdoor curtains on my condo balcony. I'm wondering: could I put one of these heavy-duty command hooks on either side (they'll be affixed to wooden surfaces) and then string wire across? Has anyone tried this? My curtains have velcro-closing tabs.
Command hooks do not adhere to textured walls as I recently discovered.
What kind of curtain rod did you use (material, length, etc.) I bought one that has three pieces that extend to 120" but I don't think it's strong enough.
Hi Stephanie, We used a shorter rod so the middle didn't lack support however if you are using a longer rod you could always place a command hook in the middle for added support. -HASupport

I don't believe Ikea sells branded items. But the may have some Ikea branded hooks. I'd look in the marketplace area of Ikea where the curtain rods are.

Hi there, Sorry for the delayed response. We used two large adhesive mount metal command hooks with a brushed nickel finish. Each one holds up to 5 pounds. Hope this helps! -HASupport

I've been using Command hooks for more than 10 years through several different residences and the answer is definitely not. I never recall it leaving so much as a mark. It's really pretty amazing, I've had these stuck to a spot on the wall, bearing weight for 5 years, then I remove them -- not a trace. That includes some walls with such cheap paint that if you look at them wrong you'd leave an irremovable smudge mark. Just learn how to remove them properly (ie, smoothly yanking down on the tape tab to elongate the tape, until the hook comes free.)

Maybe okay if curtains aren't going to be hung by rings and need to slide to open and close curtains. I see me sliding everything right onto the floor.

Try using the heavier command strips on the hooks, cause the strips that come with hooks only holds 5lbs get some strips that hold 16 lbs
