Thank you for this video. I was having real trouble incorporating a rat into my pedalboard, but I didn't give up on it because I knew there was something there. I ultimately settled on a fat rat which helped the low end but I still couldn't find a sweet spot on the tone that worked for me. Turns out that setting the fat rat to a stock rat setting and simply rolling the tone all the way off did the trick I would have never in a million years tried that, because I thought it got to wooly at 3:00. But sure enough, if you keep going, that's the sound.
This is a killer demo for all pedals involved. I have an ‘84 Rat, Vintage Big Box Reissue Rat, and a ‘96 Turbo Rat. I got a Rusty Box because of the sick tones in this video.
You can't go wrong. It just goes to show you, when it comes to Rat pedals (especially vintage ones) it has _nothing_ to do with "Oh, big box v2 Rats are better - No! It's white face Rats! - No way Jose it's all about the O.G. Bud Box Rat!!" arguments. It just comes down to finding a good Rat (I.e one _you_ like cuz they're all good). Because even though on paper/schematic there is no difference, it's obvious there *IS* a difference from one unit to the next due to any number of factors from component tolerance, component drift, component brand, the ghost in the box etc. It makes finding "your" Rat that much more fun.
Hey guys, after some time has gone by since this video and there are more variations of rats out there such as clones, have you found another brand of a rat pedal that works great for bass? I’ve been looking at the JAM pedals rattler and the big ear pedals woodcutter for instance. Thanks for your time.
