A24 = original stories. Not remakes, sequels or recycled stories. They are bold. Even on their worst day I much rather watch one of their authentic new stories fail than to rehear/watch an altered recycled original. They are a fresh breath of air to cinema.

Watched this at the movies last night. Epic. Hectic.
My closest friend had life long mental health issues, and had the same underlying soft loving nature as Beau in this movie.
I asked him once what it felt like to endure a psychotic episode, and he said that you absolutely can not distinguish the difference between a thought and something happening in real life.
A couple of years ago, we went surfing together, I dropped him home afterwards and made plans to surf again the next day. But he woke up, took his board to the beach and walked up to the edge of a 100ft cliff and jumped off, beautiful sunny morning at 9am.
The weight of what he carried around (and hid beautifully from most of the world) in the background of his mind was a war that was eventually to much to bare.
There was so many moments in this film that reminded me of moments in time that I’d seen him travel through.
Amazing movie that blurred the lines between the reality he encompassed and the torture of his anxieties.

This tells quite a bit actually. I think anyone who's seen The Truman Show already knows a decent amount of the plot with this. With that said, clearly there is more too it, but the similarities were all given away in this 'trailer'. Given the length of the trailer it would appear the "Truman Show" style surprise for the main character takes up a decent portion of the run time. Who knows. A24 is a low budget studio. They pick up scripts and directors that typically won’t get funded by major production companies(ie. Avant garde movie ideas) in an attempt to hopefully turn a massive profit on a movie that deviates from the mainstream(marvel, Disney bs). It’s a [potentially] higher risk for a higher reward scenario. It has nothing to do with ari aster getting popular, but A24 giving aspiring directors a chance from the beginning. Think blumhouse(another low budget production company) and their massive success and profits on the first paranormal activity. Most big budget companies wouldn’t have funded a venture such as PA, but look at the reward, almost 200 million pure profit.

There are a lot of controversial opinions about this movie. It’s more metaphorical, it represents how to live with anxiety, basically a nightmare of a person with severe anxiety in absurd, black comedic portrayal.
It’s also about relationships in your life and their importance ( parents, partners etc) and how parents can control you even as an adult, how they planted deep fears into us only to be hindered from reaching our full potential and joy. What it’s like not finding your place in society and feeling like an outcast, not fitting anywhere, but even if you have a chance to live a happy life and find your people, your inner fears, your traumas will come get you and draw you back to the source of every bad thing in your life, mind until you can’t escape and there’s no where to go.
It’s about traumas, fears, anxiety and how they can decrease someone’s quality of life, determine their present and future and how you can be the prisoner of your own mind due to them.

Wait... you said you came into the theater blind. So, I have some questions...
Later, you said you can't wait to see this movie again, and that you left the theater gut-punched. First of all, that's miraculous! This movie actually helped you to see again! We've got to get the word out.
But as far as someone assaulting you in the theater...
This is outrageous! Who would punch a blind person in a theater!?? Is that something blind people have to deal with regularly?? That's horrible!
I mean here you are, (listening very intently to the movie), and probably running back and forth very quickly at the bottom of the screen reading the braille at the bottom, and someone comes along and sucker punches you? Is it because you also got popcorn and were maybe smearing butter across the screen? If so... how did you carry the bucket of popcorn with one hand and read braille with the other, and still have time to reach into the bucket to get some more popcorn? You must have missed a lot of the movie.
Actually...If the movie had audio, why did you need to read the braille at the bottom? Is that because you were afraid you might miss something the actors said? Oh wait... I get it now.
You must have bumped into another person who was blind as well when you were both going back and forth, and THEY gut punched you.
I dunno... maybe I'm just blind, but I don't see it.

I saw film screening Beau is afraid in IMAX in Manhattan Ari Aster was interviewed by Martin Scorsese after the screening. I will let you know that if you’re battling codependency, this is a great movie for you to see. The main character of Beau battles a lifetime of codependency brought on by his mother, not allowing him to have autonomy in his formative years. He goes on to question all his decisions and abdicate his decision, making to others rendering him as someone who is lost in chaos, castrated by his mothers inability to allow him to choose. he ends up becoming a hypochondriac, unable to feel safe in making choices for himself. Even after his mothers, death beau still continues to drown in his own guilt brought on by his mothers constant reminders that he did not love her enough the way she needed to be loved. This movie drives the point home that for codependent person to learn to be independent, They must take the control of their decisions, cut the chains that bind them to their past and choose life decisions for themselves or die along with their codependent counterpart

the movie wasn't so simple. Beau was a victim of his smothering and jealous mother but he was also so unresponsive. He had to learn to act out what he wants or at least explain himself better. He was guilty of what he was judged for even though the judgement ignored the defense of his position... I guess saying that in the end it doesn't matter if others 'made' you the way you are. You have to seek the solution yourself.
His psychiatrist didn't help. Nobody helped... not even Beau.

I think this is gonna be a lot scarier than the trailer is making it out to be... but I also wonder if this film is gonna have a more optimistic ending, or at least not be a straight up horror film

    • @IsThisMi

Based on the leaked script it's not super terrifying, it's more of a dark comedy with horror elements for sure.

    • @MistaZULE
      @MistaZULE 2 роки тому +2

I agree. I think it will have many unsettling elements but the abstract nature of the film will disconnect us from the horror (at least that's how I interpreted the horror in the trailer).

Not exactly sure what this is about, but the trailer here filled me with a sense of existential dread and terror. While it's clearly visually bright and happy in a lot of ways, it's suffocatingly creepy, in an effective way. I got the impression that this is a film about anxiety, and the ever-present threat of terrible things happening if you ever dare take any risk or step outside.

    • @justincredible0991

It’s not just the fear of bad things happening, it’s those literal fears come to life.
If you have existential dread from the trailer, I don’t think you should watch it. It’s extremely intense and hard to watch. It’s if everything you could ever fear to go wrong does. And, while that’s happening, someone is yelling that you suck.
