Had the opportunity to learn a few lessons from him at Piping centre. Setting some serious goals for pipers beginning out like us! Take a bow Chris Armstrong!! What a fantastic speed and precision, jaw dropped!
This is amazing. I am a bagpiper and have played for about 4 1/2 years now, and know that in fast song, such as, that it is EXTREMLY hard to stay this loose in the finger for this long. Wonderful work!
Chris's skill in piping is quite extraordinary. I'm in the process of learning Bonnie Dundee on the pipes and I have improved my dexterity in my right hand in learning it. I give kudos to Chris for having this magnitude of talent....and dexterity!!!
I've been playing for 4 years and I cant comprehend how this is even possible, he has made sounds and rythym patterns come out of the pipes that i couldnt have imagined.
Only a couple of weeks to go before the London Annual Competitions (known as the 'Bratach Gorm', after the main prize) of the Scottish Piping Society of London are held on Saturday 1st Novenmber 2014 at Kensington Town Hall/Conference Centre, Hornton Street, High Street Kensington in London (on all day from 9 am). This is a world-class series of major competitions, that attracts top solo pipers from around the world, as well as up-and-coming piping stars of tomorrow. (See the Society's website for further info.)
Amazing!!!!!!! I am a ten year old piper and play in Stirling schools pipe band I get lessons with Chris armstrong at the piping centre it is very inspirational and hope I had a job like that
I love Bagpiper's music, but they didn't like the bagpipe because they see this instrument noisy like a group of sheep meaaaaaaaaa, looks like its has a leak in it but his playing is fantastic ^_^
@bagpiss This WAS filmed more than two and a half years ago, when it all was relatively new. Not seen any of your new tunes on UA-cam..... not seen ANY of your tunes on UA-cam!!
I have , frankly, never heard anything quite like this. I'll go back to 'My Fair Maid of Barra". I never dreamed that a chanter could respond that fast.
Wow! even at that speed his embellishments sounded crisp and clean! fantastic 😀 I wonder if he was using his own X-Treme drone reeds? I'm thinking about getting some lol
i have seen quite a few guys before with fast hands in person....jack lee, gordon duncan, stu liddell, ryan canning, mark saul, danny boyle....and I gota say that he just played probably the most ridiculous stuff I have ever seen as far as speed is concerned!
not quite sure what to think honestly. One thing though I'm not sure I can get used to, as an American who grew up with 80's hair bands: the High A... just kills me all the time w/GHB players. I used to refuse to play my P3's unless my high A was spot on. that's just me. I completely understand I'm not a proper piper. This lad surely can fly over the chanter, though find meself longing for something a little more...slow after a while
Talk utter nonsense. Chris is a far better player than any 1 in this world could ever be. He does have self control, even the best of us make mistakes and break downs, Chris isn't the only one I've seen Stuart Liddell do it before and I've seen other grade 1 pipers do it. We all mistakes, the thing about Chris is at least he has the confidence and ability to cover up this break downs, that's what also makes a great player.
I agree; ridiculous! I've heard him play live and he is an amazing player; he can do it all, Individual tastes are one thing, but to imply mediocrity in his musicianship has no credibility whatsoever.

TheSnakeCharmer wait u play ghb? I thought you played some other variation of pipes

I love Bagpiper's music, but they didn't like the bagpipe because they see this instrument noisy like a group of sheep meaaaaaaaaa, looks like its has a leak in it but his playing is fantastic ^_^
Also i would like to say the problem is his Bagpipe and not in Chris ^_^

Haters Always likes nothing beautiful, only the Rubbish they always falls in love with it instantly.

your right to a point i mean its alot of that shit but you have to say its pretty sweet though...you try to play like though
Haha, so true about the fingers!
Must be doing the same in his sleep, like a twitch...that man is awesome, though very concerned for tuning.
speedy
piping awsome pipes im not sure
..speed does nothing for the tunes .......in fact it destroys them .....
im getting a lesson from him :D
Wth. THERE is where it turns from music into...oblivion. I'm sorry...I just did not have an ear for that at all.
haha its alright when he does it though!!!

Diarmid MacDonald I think as far as technique and musicality, I do give a slight edge to Willie McCallum and Jack Lee.
I really wish folks would tune up BEFORE turning on the tape. And just because you can play that fast does not mean you should.
noise.
better than gordon!!!

Sounds very 'arabic' in places. Enough to charm a cobra..!
well clearly you have no idea what your talking about, i bid you good day and god speed sir...
Too much jazz man! Keep it traditional. GREAT playing however.
