I commend you, Terry Swope, for your commentary on Hazel Scott. I have enjoyed some of your other work as well.
More important than McCarthy is the fact that Hazel Scott was married with Adam Clayton Powell, Jr and the political force that he became & was. They were married from 1945-1960.
This was definitely an opportunity to make the point that the Black woman, the Black man & marriage, the Black Family were attacked viciously during the 40’s, 50’s, & 60’s through McCarthyism & the infamous Moynihan Report.
There is more to be said, will save it for a later time.

So true about Hazel Scott being in the Hall of Fame. Her UA-cam videos are phenomenal and she has inspired me to never give up on learning the piano. She was a civil rights entertainer and refused movie roles as a maid and in a movie with an army-return-home-scene she refused to shoot the scene unless the ladies were permitted to change their costumes from shabby to more glamorous. That caused her to be blackballed from more movie roles.

Auntie Hazel got caught up in the same racist net that was set for Paul Robeson and others in order to soften their stand against the imperialist system. Oprah also does not fit in this queenly conversation.
